لاہور: امیر جماعت اسلامی قاضی حسین احمد نے کہا ہے کہ معزول چیف جسٹس افتخار محمد چوہدری بحال ہوتے ہیں تو قومی مفاہمت آرڈیننس ان کے لئے بڑا ٹیسٹ کیس ثابت ہو گا۔لاہور میں ایک سیمینار سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے انہوں نے کہا جسٹس افتخار محمد چوہدری کا قصور یہ تھا کہ انہوں نے لاپتہ افراد کا سراغ لگانے کی کوشش کی۔ ان کا کہنا تھا کہ تمام معزول جج، افتخار محمد چوہدری کی سربراہی میں بحال کئے جائیں اور آئین بارہ اکتوبر 1999 سے پہلے والی پوزیشن پر لایا جائے۔انہوں نے کہا کہ حقیقی قومی آزادی عدلیہ کی آزادی میں مضمر ہے۔ قاضی حسین احمد نے بتایا کہ نواز شریف نے لندن میں اے پی ڈی ایم کے اجلاس میں وعدہ کیا تھا کہ چیف جسٹس افتخار محمد چوہدری سمیت تمام جج بحال کئے جائیں گے بصورت دیگر وہ اقتدار سے باہر آ کر تحریک چلائیں گے۔سیمینار سے لاہور ہائیکورٹ بار کے صدر انور کمال، ڈسٹرکٹ بار کے صدر منظور قادر اور حافظ عبدالرحمان انصاری نے خطاب کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ نئی حکومت نے عدلیہ بحال نہ کی تو اس کے خلاف بھی تحریک چلائی جائے گی۔

PPP soon to announce candidate for PM

ISLAMABAD Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will name its candidate for the post of prime minister at the weekend, a spokesman said Friday.President Pervez Musharraf has summoned the new parliament on Monday to elect a prime minister, which will clear the way for a coalition government hostile to him to start business."We will announce our candidate for prime minister on late Saturday or early Sunday," PPP spokesman Farhatullah Babar told AFP.The names of the contesting candidates have to be filed before Sunday afternoon for Monday's vote, he added.Bilawal Bhutto Zardari the successor as chairman of PPP, returned to Pakistan from London this week to personally announce the candidate.The PPP emerged as the largest party from general elections on February 18.Western governments are keenly observing the political scene in Pakistan, with a showdown looming between the new parliament and Musharraf, a frontline ally in the US-led "war on terror."The co-chairman of the party, Asif Ali Zardari, has held a series of meetings with legislators and coalition partners on the choice of prime minister but no clear front runner has emerged.The main contenders are former parliament speaker Yousuf Raza Gilani, ex-trade minister Ahmed Mukhtar, party president Makhdoom Amin Fahim and Punjab province party chief Shah Mahmood Qureshi.Zardari himself is ineligible because he is not an MP, but insiders say he may run in a by-election in May to join parliament and possibly seek the premiership himself.

Inter-faith, inter-cultural harmony need of hour: PM

ISLAMABAD, Mar 21 (APS): Caretaker Prime Minister Mohammedmian Soomro Friday said the promotion of inter-faith and inter-cultural harmony was a must and need of hour to achieve durable peace in this globalized world.“The life of Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) depicts efforts for the promotion of peace in society. All the agreements made by Holy Prophet (PBUH) with tribes and other religions were aimed at establishing peace”, the Prime Minister said.
He was addressing the closing session of the annual 32nd National Seerat-ul-Nabi Conference 2008 titled “Inter-Civilizational and Inter-Cultural Inter-Action and Harmony in the light of Seerah of the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him)” here at National Library Auditorium.
The Prime Minister said Islam is a religion of peace and harmony and strongly opposes the idea of clash between civilizations.
He said Islam teaches moderation in every aspect of life and encourages every human to follow the spirit of “live and let live”, adding the Islamic values and its economic and political systems are international and universal in nature.
The Prime Minister, however, added that the establishment of justice and equity is vital for the promotion of inter-civilizational and inter-cultural inter-action and harmony.
He said as the race of materialism has shattered the global peace in the current era, the United Nations which was created for establishing peace in the world seems to have failed in achieving its objective.
The Prime Minister said the United Nations, instead of protecting the interests of powerful countries, will have to take care of every nation in accordance with the principles of justice and equity.
He said the current state of conflict was being imposed on Islam, adding, reasons behind this may be either economic, social or religious, Islam has never been the religion of clash.
The Prime Minister stressed the need of dialogue among various faiths and civilizations to pave the way for achieving durable peace and make this world a peaceful place to live.
“Islam is a religion which invites dialogue and is strongly opposed to clash of civilizations,” he said and added, “Islam considers dialogue as a mean to end this clash.”
The Prime Minister called upon the scholars and Ulema to help remove the misperceptions about Islam in the West by presenting the true picture of this great religion.
He said with most of the countries having acquired modern weapons of mass destruction, any clash between the civilizations can lead to another world war, which could be dangerous for global peace.
The Prime Minister on this occasion also distributed certificates and cash prizes among 36 male and female scholars for writing best books and thesis on the subject of Seerat-ul-Nabi (Peace Be Upon Him).
Earlier, Chairman Islamic Ideology Council Dr. Khalid Masood in his welcome remarks highlighted the aims and objectives of the annual event, being organized by the Ministry of Religious Affairs since 1976.
Secretary Religious Affairs, Wakil Ahmad Khan was also present on the occasion.

Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut faces assault charge

Mumbai, (Associated Press Service) Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut is in trouble. Her driver Thursday accused her of physical assault and registered a case against the star of "Woh Lamhe" and "Gangster - a love story".
The driver, Rajesh Shah, has alleged that Ranaut slapped him after he bumped her car into another vehicle Thursday morning, when he was driving the actor to the sets of her latest film.The incident reportedly enraged Ranaut.Kangana later summoned the driver to her make-up van where she allegedly slapped him. The case has been filed at the Versova police station in northwestern Mumbai. "The driver has registered a case against Kangana, her sister Rangoli Ranaut and her make-up man," Deputy commissioner of Police Vinay Choube told IANS. Choube said the driver alleged that Kangana's sister and her make-up man were also present in the make-up van and they also assaulted him.

I'm happy doing commercial films: Katrina Kaif

New Delhi, - Katrina Kaif, who gave the maximum hits among all Bollywood actresses last year, says she is having a ball doing commercial films and has no plans to venture into "serious" cinema right now.
"I am pretty clear about what I want to do. I don't want to go down the road doing serious cinema. I am happy doing commercial films. The fun films give the audience time to escape the monotony in everyday life," Katrina told IANS in an interview here."I love what I am doing and there is plenty of time to do serious films. I am sure I will do them. But at this point I am really enjoying myself and I love dancing, I love the characters I am playing. Last year, I did a lot of comedies, at the same time I did 'Namastey London' which was a fantastic character. This year, I have a slightly greater variety of roles."She was here to promote the film "Race", which will be her first release of the year. Directed by the duo Abbas-Mustan, the film also has a host of A-list actors like Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna and Bipasha Basu."I don't want to give away too much about my role because it is a suspense film. My character has a lot more shades. She is something you don't expect from me. I saw the first print of the film. It is a very tongue- in-cheek kind of film and not to be taken very seriously."It is one of those films where good guys are really good and bad guys are even worse. It is like those heightened novels of Agatha Christie where everything is a little exaggerated. The overall experience was truly entertaining."Her kitty is full of hits like "Partner" and "Welcome".After so many hits in a row, where do you place yourself in filmdom?"I don't think it's a matter where you place yourself. It's a matter of how your fan feels about you and where the industry finds you. At this particular place I think I am lucky to be able to say that I do get offers for a lot of film."Now she has moved on to bigger banners like Yash Raj Films."Yes, I am doing a Yash Raj film with John Abraham. Neil Mukesh is also in the film. I think the best if they (producers) speak about the film. It is a completely different genre and not something I have done before."Apart from that she will be seen in "Singh Is King" with Akshay Kumar and in Rajkumar Santoshi's next film, "Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani", with Ranbir Kapoor."'Singh Is King' is a comedy. Rajkumar Santoshi's script is one of the best scripts I have ever heard. It will be a new experience for me."In all these films, Katrina is paired with the younger lot of actors. Ask her if it is a conscious move, she says: "It just happened. The whole set up has to be good and the script is very important."You know that if Akshay (Kumar) and Salman (Khan) are in the film, they can pull off even a bad script. But when you are working with a new team, you have to be really sure of the whole project. It took me some time to select the films."

Musharraf asks nation to observe unity in fighting extremism

ISLAMABAD, Mar 21 (APS): President Pervez Musharraf has urged the nation to observe unity and act as a force to effectively fight extremism. “On the blessed day of Eid Milad un Nabi, let us observe unity in our ranks because it is the force which can effectively help us counter extremist views,” President Musharraf said in his message to nation on the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
President Musharraf felicitated the nation on Eid Milad un Nabi and said one should live his life according to the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and the balanced teachings of Islam by rising above personal and sectarian interests.
“We should pledge to promote great human values and strive for ensuring law and morality,” he said.
The President said Eid Milad un Nabi is a special occasion because on this day, Allah Almighty blessed the humanity with ‘Rehmatul Lil Alameen’ (blessing for all the worlds), who is a source of benediction for mankind.
“On this day, the distressed humanity was heralded with great blessing. In this regard, the day is absolutely a moment of celebration and joy,” he added.
He said the basic focus of the teachings of Hazrat Muhammad’s (Peace Be Upon Him) is the supremacy of Allah’s commandments and torestore the honour of humanity.
“The personality of Hazrat Muhammad ( Peace Be Upon Him) is a beacon for mankind, whose every ray gives the message of welfare and noble values.”
The President said as Muslims, it is our duty to follow the teachings of Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and observe the true, glowing and great lessons of Islam.
“We should not prefer personal interests over human, national and state interests,” he said.
