کراچی ۔ چئیرمین پاکستان پٹرولیم ڈیلرز ایسوسی ایشن نے کہا ہے کہ آئل مارکیٹنگ کمپنیوں کی جانب سے پٹرولیم ڈیلرز کو پٹرول اور ڈیزل کی سپلائی روک دی گئی ہے۔آئل مارکیٹنگ کمپنیوں کی جانب سے پٹرولیم مصنوعات کی سپلائی میں 50فیصد کمی ہوچکی ہے جبکہ اندرون سندھ اور پنجاب میں یہ صورتحال مزید گھمبیر ہے۔اگر یہ صورتحال مزید جاری رہی تو پٹرول کی فی لیٹرقیمتیں 100روپے اور سی این جی کی فی کلو قیمتیں 75روپے ہونے کا امکان ہے۔ ان خیالات کا اظہار چئیرمین پاکستان پٹرولیم ڈیلرز ایسوسی ایشن عبدالسمیع خان نے ممبران کے ہمراہ کراچی میں منعقدہ پریس کانفرنس میں کیا۔انہوں نے کہا کہ اگر آئل مارکیٹگ کمپنیوں کی جانب سے پٹرولیم مصنوعات کی سپلائی بحال نہیں کی گئی تو 14 اور15جون کو صارفین کو پٹرولیم مصنوعات فراہم نہیں کی جاسکیں گی۔انہوں نے کہا کہ پٹرولیم ڈیلرز آخری فیصلے کے طور پر عدالت سے رجوع کریں گے کیونکہ آئل مارکیٹنگ کمپنیاں وافر مقدار میں موجود ذخیرے کے باوجود سپلائی نہیں کررہی ہیں۔انہوں نے کہا کہ اس مبینہ ذخیرہ اندوزی سے آئل مارکیٹنگ کمپنیاں پٹرولیم مصنوعات کی قیمتوں میں گزشتہ 6ماہ میں 100فیصد اضافہ کرچکی ہیں جبکہ اس صورتحال میں حکومت کی جانب سے کوئی توجہ نہیں دی جارہی ہے۔انہوں نے بتایا کہ لیوبریکینٹس کی فی لیٹر قیمتوں میں مذکورہ دورانئے میں 60روپے کا اضافہ ہوچکا ہے اور یہ 120روپے فی لیٹر کی سطح پر پہنچ چکی ہیں۔انہوں نے بتایا کہ آئل مارکیٹنگ کمپنیوں کی جانب سے حکومتی زر تلافی میں کمی کے پیش نظر اسٹاک مارکیٹ میں نہیں لایا جارہا ہے حالانکہ اس قسم کی کوئی صورتحال نہیں ہے۔انہوں نے کہا کہ ہمیں آئل مارکیٹنگ کمپنیوں کی جانب سے معطل سپلائی کی صورتحال درپیش ہے جس کے باعث صارفین کو مشکلات کا سامنا ہے۔چئیرمین فیڈرل بورڈ آف ریوینیو، سیکریٹری پٹرولیم، چئیرمین اوگرا اور ڈی جی آئل و گیس سے ہونے والی میٹنگز کے حوالے سے عبدالسمیع خان نے بتایا کہ حکومت کی جانب سے پٹرولیم ڈیوٹی کی طرز پر گیس ڈیوٹی کے نفاذ کی کوششیں کی جارہی ہیں جس سے آئندہ بجٹ میں سی این جی قیمتوں میں اضافے کا امکان ہے۔انہوں نے الزام عائد کیا کہ آئل مارکیٹنگ اس بات کی خواہاں ہیں کہ گیس ڈیوٹی کا اطلاق قابل عمل ہوجائے جس سے پٹرول اور گیس کی فی یونٹ قیمتوں میں موجود فرق مزید گھٹ جائیگا۔انہوں نے بتایا کہ ہمیں ذرائع سے معلوم ہوا ہے کہ پٹرول کی فی لیٹر قیمتیں 100روپے اور سی این جی کی فی کلو قیمتیں 75روپے کرنے کا امکان ہے۔انہوں نے اپنے خدشات کا اظہار کیا کہ اگر یہ صورتحال عملی شکل اختیار کرگئی تو پٹرول اسٹیشن بند ہوجائیں گے اور سی این جی سیکٹر میں کسی قسم کی سرمایہ کاری سے لوگ اجتناب کریں گے۔

لاہور۔ پاکستان مسلم لیگ ن اور پاکستان پیپلز پارٹی نے مشترکہ پارلیمانی پارٹی اجلاس میں مسلم لیگ ن کے صدر میاں شہباز شریف پر اعتماد کرتے ہوئے انہیں وزیر اعلی پنجاب بنانے پر متفقہ فیصلہ کر لیا ۔ گ آج 90 شاہراہ قائد اعظم ایوان وزیر اعلی میں دونوں جماعتوں کے اراکین اسمبلی نے بھرپور انداز سے اجلاس میں شرکت کی ۔ اجلاس کے اختتام پر صوبائی وزیر قانون رانا ثناء اللہ نے صحافیوں کو بفیرنگ دیتے ہوئے کہا کہ کل بروز جمعۃ المبارک اسمبلی کا معمول کے مطابق اجلاس ہو گا جس میں میاں شہباز شریف اپنی رکنیت کا حلف اٹھائیں گے اور وزیر اعلی پنجاب سردار دوست محمد کھوسہ مستعفی ہو جائیں گے ۔ وقفہ سوالات کے علاوہ چار بل اور قرار دادیں پیش ہونگی ۔ ہفتہ کے روز وزارت اعلی کے امیدوار اپنے کاغذات نامزدگی جمع کروائیں گے یہ سلسلہ رات 9 بجے تک جاری رہے گا ۔ اتوار کے روز میاں شہباز شریف وزیر اعلی منتخب ہونے کے بعد اسی روز پانچ بجے گورنر ہاؤس میں گورنر پنجاب سلمان تاثیر نئے وزیر اعلی میاں شہباز شریف سے حلف لیں گے ۔ 9 جون بروز سوموار میاں شہباز شریف اسمبلی سے اعتماد کا ووٹ لیں گے ۔

وفاقی دارالحکومت میں دفعہ ١٤٤ نافذ کردی گئی

اسلام آباد ۔ حکومت نے وفاقی دارالحکومت اسلام آباد میں دفعہ 144نافذ کردی ہے ۔ اس ضمن میں ڈسٹرکٹ مجسٹریٹ کی جانب سے اعلامیہ جاری کیا گیا ہے ۔ دفعہ 144کے تحت اسلام آباد میں ہر قسم کی ریلیوں جلسے جلوسوں پر پابندی عائد ہو گی جبکہ انتظامیہ کی جانب سے شاہرارہ دستور کے ریڈ زون کے علاقے میں عام ٹریفک کے داخلے پر پابندی عائد کردی گئی ہے ۔ ریڈ زون میں ایوان صدر ،پارلیمنٹ ہاؤس ، سپریم کورٹ ، وزیر اعظم ہاؤس ،سیکریٹریٹ سمیت اہم عمارتیں موجود ہیں

کراچی ۔ وکلاء رہنماؤں نے کہا ہے کہ وکلاء کے لانگ مارچ سے ثابت ہو جائے گا کہ قوم کیا چاہتی ہے۔ 18 فروری کے عوامی فیصلے کے خلاف سازشوں کو ناکام بنا دیا جائے گا۔ ان خیالات کا اظہار وکلاء رہنماؤں نے جنرل باڈی اجلاسوں سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے کیا۔ سندھ ہائی کورٹ با ر اور کراچی با ر ایسوسی ایشن کا علیحدہ علیحدہ جنرل باڈی اجلاس جمعرات کو منعقد ہوا۔ سندھ ہائی کورٹ بار ایسوسی ایشن کے جنرل باڈی اجلاس سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے معروف قانون دان نہال ہاشمی ایڈووکیٹ نے کہا کہ مسلم لیگ (ن) نے وزارتوں کی قربانی گھروں میں بیٹھنے کے لئے نہیں دی تھی بلکہ ججوں کی بحالی تک وکلاء کے ساتھ قدم ملا کر جدوجہد کی جائے گی۔ سندھ ہائی کورٹ بار ایسو سی ایشن کے خازن سرور محمد خان ایڈووکیٹ نے کہا کہ آئینی پیکیج دھوکہ سے بڑھ کر کچھ نہیں ہے اور پیکیج کا مقصد صرف پی سی او کا حلف اٹھانے والے ججوں کو تحفط فراہم کرنا ہے۔ کراچی بار ایسوسی ایشن کے جنرل باڈی اجلاس سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے سندھ بار کونسل کے رکن صلاح الدین گنڈا پور نے کہا کہ این آر او سے فائدہ اٹھانے والے یہ نہ بھولیں کہ انہیں آئندہ ووٹ لینے کیلئے عوام کے پاس جانا ہے اس لئے وعدے کے مطابق ججوں کو بحال کر دیں۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ وکلاء کو تقسیم کرنے یا ان میں پھوٹ ڈالنے کی کوشش کو ناکام بنا دیا جائے گا۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ تحریک آخری مرحلے میں داخل ہو چکی ہے اور جلد ہی قوم کو خوش خبری ملے گی۔ کراچی بار ایسوسی ایشن کے صدر محمود الحسن نے کہا کہ موجودہ حکومت جمہوری حکومت ہونے کا دعویٰ کرتی ہے مگر اندرون سندھ وکلاء کو دھمکیاں دی جا رہی ہیں اور انہیں ہراساں کیا جا رہا ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ 2 نومبر والی عدلیہ بحال نہیں ہوئی تو موجودہ پارلیمنٹ کا وجود نہیں رہے گا۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ پاکستان پیپلز پارٹی سے تعلق رکھنے والے سندھ بار کونسل کے رکن غلام محمد عباسی کو جسٹس عبدالحمید ڈوگر کی تقریب کا بائیکاٹ کرنے کی سزا دی جا رہی ہے اور ان کی چھوٹی سی اراضی کا پانی بند کر دیا گیا ہے اور توڑ پھوڑ کی گئی جبکہ متعلقہ پولیس نے مقدمہ درج کرنے سے بھی انکار کر دیا۔ محمود الحسن نے کہا کہ وکلاء پہلے بھی نامساعد حالات کا سامنا کرتے رہے ہیں اور اب بھی نہیں گھبرائیں گے۔ پیپلز لائرز فورم سندھ کے نائب صدر محمد علی عباسی ایڈووکیٹ نے اپنے خطاب میں کہا کہ پیپلز لائرز فورم کے وکلاء کل بھی آزاد عدلیہ کے لئے جدوجہد کرتے رہے ہیں اور نڈر ججوں کی بحالی کے لئے آئندہ بھی وکلاء تحریک میں اپنا کردار ادا کریں گے۔

کراچی ۔ کراچی بار ایسو سی ایشن نے معزول ججوں کی بحالی تک بار روم میں وزراء کے داخلے پر پابندی عائد کر دی ہے۔ جمعرات کو کراچی بار ایسو سی ایشن کے جنرل باڈی اجلاس سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے صدر محمود الحسن نے چیف جسٹس آف پاکستان عبدالحمید ڈوگر کو کراچی بار سے خطاب کی دعوت دینے سے متعلق خبر کی تردید کی۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم پی سی او کا حلف اٹھانے والے ججوں کو آئینی جج نہیں مانتے اس لئے پی سی او کا حلف اٹھانے والے ججوں کو بار سے خطاب کی دعوت دینے کا سوال ہی پیدا نہیں ہوتا۔ انہوںنے کہا کہ جب تک معزول جج بحال نہیں ہوتے بار میں وزراء کے داخلے پر بھی پابندی ہو گی۔

کوئٹہ ۔ کوئٹہ سمیت بلوچستان بھر میں وکلائکا احتجاج، عدالتوں کا بائیکاٹ رہا تفصیلات کے مطابق بلوچستان بھر کی طرح کوئٹہ میں بھی وکلاء نے عدلیہ کی بحالی کے لئے احتجاج کیااور عدالتوں کا بائیکاٹ کیا کوئٹہ کے علاوہ مستونگ ، قلات ، پشین ، خضدار ، چمن ، سبی ،نوشکی اورصوبے کے دیگر علاقوں میں وکلاء نے عدلیہ کی بحالی کے لئے احتجاج کیا اور ریلیاں نکالی گئیں تمام عدالتوں پر سیاہ پرچم لہرائے گئے احتجاجاعدالتوں کا بائیکاٹ کیا جس کے باعث کسی بھی عدالت میں کوئی کاروائی نہ ہوسکی وکلاء کے بائیکاٹ کے باعث عوام کو سخت مشکلات کا سامنا کوئٹہ میں بلوچستان بارایسوسی ایشن کے صدر باز محمد کاکڑ کی زیرصدارت اجلاس ہوا اجلاس سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے باز محمد کاکڑنے کہا کہ حکومت فوری طورپر تین نومبر سے پہلے والی عدلیہ کو بحال کرے انہوں نے کہا کہ کوئٹہ کے وکلاء 10 جون کو وکلاء کے لانگ مارچ میں بھر پور شرکت کرینگے اور عدلیہ کی بحالی تک وکلاء کی تحریک اسی طرح بھر پور طریقے سے جاری رے گی۔#

نوشہرہ ۔ نوشہرہ کے علاقہ بدرشی میں نوشہرہ پولیس اور عسکریت پسندوں کے مابین شدید جھڑپ،چار راہگیر سمیت ایک پولیس اہلکار شدید زخمی ہو گئے،ایک گاڑی سے بھاری مقدار میں اسلحہ،دستی بم،گرنیڈ اور جیکٹ برآمد کرلی،عسکریت پسند کاکا صاحب کے قریبی پہاڑوں میں روپوش ہو گئے،مدرسے کا سرچ آپریشن جاری ،آپریشن میں پولیس فورس،کمانڈوفورس اور لیڈی پولیس نے حصہ لیا،پولیس نے مدرسے سے بھاری تعداد میں کتابیں اور دیگر سامان برآمد کر کے قبضے میں لے لیا ،آپریشن کے دوران قریبی سکولوں اور مکانوں کو خالی کرالیاگیا،زخمیوں کو مقامی ہسپتالوں میں پہنچایاگیا،ایک کی حالت تشویشناک بتائی جاتی ہے ۔تفصیلات کے مطابق جمعرات کی صبح نوشہرہ پولیس کو اطلاع ملی کہ ایک مشکوک کار نمبرRIR2911نورگل بابا زیارت کے پاس کھڑی ہے جب نوشہرہ کینٹ پولیس وہاں پہنچی تو کار میں بیٹھے ہوئے افراد نے کار بھگا دی تعاقب پر نوشہرہ کے علاقہ بدرشی میں واقع ایک مدرسہ مدنی مسجد پہنچی تو اس دوران پولیس پر اندھا دھند فائرنگ شروع کر دی پولیس نے بھی جوابی فائرنگ کی ۔اس دوران راکٹ لانچر اور گرنیڈ کا استعمال بھی ہوا لیکن دونوں ناکارہ ہونے کے باعث نقصان نہیں ہوسکا ۔عسکریت پسندوں اور پولیس کے مابین فائرنگ سے چار راہگیر وں سمیت ایک پولیس اہلکار شدید زخمی ہو گیا ۔زخمیوں میں شیرین نواب ولد عبد الوہاب ،مثل خان ولد نامعلوم سکول چوکیدار اور پولیس موبائل ڈرائیور فضل حبیب شامل ہیں ۔زخمیوں کو نوشہرہ ہسپتال پہنچادیاگیا ۔بموں اور گرنیڈوں کے استعمال سے علاقہ بدرشی کے قریبی مکانوں کو شدید نقصان پہنچا ۔پولیس نے پورے علاقے کا محاصرہ کر لیا تاہم مقامی عسکریت پسندکا کا صاحب کے قریبی پہاڑوں کی طرف فرار ہو گئے ۔

اسلام آباد۔ وزیر اعظم سید یوسف رضا گیلانی کا کہا ہے کہ حکومت ملک میں معاشی چیلنجز کا مقابلہ کرنے کے لئے پر عزم ہے اور عوام کی توقعات پر پورا اترا جائے گا ۔ان خیالات کا اظہار انہوں نے پاکستان پیپلز پارٹی کی پارلیمانی پارٹی کے اجلاس سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے کیا جو وزیر اعظم ہاؤس میں ہوا ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ پیپلز پارٹی کے حکومت عوام دوست بجٹ لائے گی جس سے عوام کو زیادہ سے زیادہ ریلیف ملے گا ۔انہوں نے کہا کہ پیپلز پارٹی کی حکومت معاشرے کے غریب طبقے کے معیار زندگی میں بہتری لانے اور عوام کو ان کی بنیاد ی ضروریات ان کی دہلیز پر فراہم کرنے کے لئے کوشاں ہے ۔ وزیر اعظم نے کہا کہ پیپلز پارٹی کے ممبران قومی اسمبلی عوام کے ساتھ قریبی رابطے کریں اور ا ن کے مسائل کے حل کے لئے فوری کام کریں ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ آنے والا بجٹ پیپلز پارٹی کی رہنما شہید محترمہ بے نظیر بھٹو کی امنگوں کے مطابق تیار کیا جائے گا ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ ہمارا مقصد زراعت اور صنعت کو ترقی دینا ،ملک میں پانی اور توانائی کی کمی کو پورا کرنا اور عوام کی زندگی کو سہولیات مہیا کرنا ہے ۔انہوں نے اراکین اسمبلی کی طرف سے بجٹ کے لئے دی گئی تجاویز کی تعریف کی انہوں نے کہا کہ یہ تجاویز بجٹ میں عوام کے لئے حقیقی ریلیف دینے میں مدد گار ثابت ہو نگی۔پیپلزپارٹی کے پارلیمنٹرینز نے اس موقع پر وزیر اعظم سے کہا کہ حکومت کی طرف سے کنٹریکٹ ملازمین کو مستقل کرنے کا فیصلہ ،بے نظیر بھٹو کی خواہشات کو پورا کرنے کے مطابق ہے ۔اجلاس میں ملک کی مجموعی سیاسی صورت حال پر غور کیا گیا ۔پارلیمنٹرینز نے وزیر اعظم سید یوسف رضا گیلانی کی قیادت پر مکمل اعتماد کا اظہار کیا ۔اجلاس میں پیپلز پارٹی کے وفاقی وزراء سمیت مخدوم امین فہیم ،فریال تالپور ،شیری رحمان ،سید خورشید شاہ ، سید نوید قمر ، میاں منظور وٹو،راجہ پرویز اشرف ،شہناز وزیر علی ، فیصل کریم کنڈی ، حنا ربانی کھر ، چوہدری قمر الزمان کاہرہ ، شاہ محمود قریشی سمیت ملک بھر کے ممبران قومی اسمبلی نے شرکت کی ۔

اسلام آباد ۔ پاک فوج نے صدر پرویز مشرف سے ’’آرمی ہاؤس ‘‘خالی کرانے کے لیے ان کے قریبی ساتھیوں کے ذریعے دباؤ بڑھا دیا ہے ۔پاک فوج کی طرف سے یہ فیصلہ وکلاء کے 10 جون کے لانگ مارچ کے اعلان اور ’’آرمی ہاؤس ‘‘ کے باہر ممکنہ دھرنے کے خطرے کے پیش نظر اعلیٰ سطح کی مشاورت میں کیا گیا ہے تا ہم اس سلسلے میں پاک فوج کے محکمہ تعلقات عامہ اور ایوانِ صدر سے رابطہ کیا گیا تو وہاں سے اس کی تصدیق یا تردیدنہیں ہو سکی۔ذرائع کے مطابق وکلاء کی طرف سے 10 جون کو لانگ مارچ کے اعلان اور آرمی ہاؤس راولپنڈی کے سامنے ممکنہ دھرنے کے خطرے کے پیش نظر پاک فوج نے اپنی حکمت عملی طے کرنے کے لیے اعلیٰ سطح پر مشاورت کی ہے ،جس میں یہ طے کیا گیا ہے کہ چونکہ یہ ایک سیاسی مسئلہ ہے اور پاک فوج خود کو اس میں ملوث نہیں کرنا چاہتی اس کے علاوہ ’’آرمی ہاؤس ‘‘ کا علاقہ انتہائی حساس ہے اورپنجاب حکومت بھی وکلاء تحریک کی بھرپور حمایت کر رہی ہے ۔مشاورت کے دوران یہ بات نوٹ کی گئی کہ راولپنڈی پولیس حکومتِ پنجاب کے ما تحت کام کر رہی ہے اس لیے وہ وکلاء کو روکنے کی کوئی کوشش نہیں کرے گی اورایسے میں جب وکلاء کی تحریک کو پنجاب حکومت کی بھرپور حمایت بھی حاصل ہواور پاک فوج بھی عوام کے ساتھ کسی طرح کا کوئی تصادم نہیں چاہتی ’’آرمی ہاؤس ‘‘ روالپنڈی کے سامنے وکلاء کا دھرنا اور اسے روکنے کی کوئی بھی کوشش انتہائی خطرناک ثابت ہو سکتی ہے۔ ذرائع نے بتایا کہ اس ساری صورت حال کے جائزے اور مشاورت کے بعد پاک فوج کی اعلیٰ قیادت نے یہ طے کیا کہ بہتر ہو گا کہ صدر پرویز مشرف سے کہا جائے کہ وہ10 جون کو وکلاء کے لانگ مارچ سے قبل ہی ’’آرمی ہاؤس ‘‘ چھوڑ کر ایوان صدر منتقل ہو جائیں جہاں انھیں بھرپور سیکورٹی بھی فراہم کی جائے گی اور یہی کسی بھی طرح کے تصادم سے بچنے کے لیے ایک محفوظ راستہ ہو گا ۔ذرائع کے مطابق اس تمام صورت حال کے جائزے اور مشاورت کے بعد پاک فوج کی اعلیٰ قیادت نے صدر پرویز مشرف کے قریبی ساتھیوں بریگیڈئیر (ر) نیاز احمدصدر کے پرنسپل سیکرٹری طارق عزیز ، دیگر ساتھیوں اور بہی خواہ ریٹائرڈ فوجی افسران کے ذریعے دباؤ بڑھانا شروع کر دیا ہے کہ وہ 10 جون سے قبل’’ایوانِ صدر‘‘ اسلام آباد منتقل ہو جائیں،ذرائع نے یہ بھی بتایا ہے کہ گزشتہ دنوں صدر پرویز مشرف اور چیف آف آرمی سٹاف کے درمیان ہونے والی غیر رسمی ملاقاتوں میں بھی فوج کے سربراہ نے انھیں ’’آرمی ہاؤس‘‘ سے ’’ایوانِ صدر‘‘ منتقل ہونے کا مشورہ دیا تھا جس پر وہ رضا مند بھی ہو گئے تھے تاہم اچانک 30 مئی کو امریکی صدر جارج ڈبلیو بش کے ٹیلی فون کے بعد صدر پرویز مشرف نے یہ ارادہ بدل دیا ۔اب ’’آرمی ہاؤس ‘‘ روالپنڈی کے باہر ’’آرمی ہاؤس ‘‘ کے نام کا سائن بورڈ ہٹا کر’’ پریذیڈنٹ لاج ‘‘کے نام کا سائن بورڈ لگا دیا گیا ہے لیکن پاک فوج نے اس پر بھی تحفظات کا اظہار کیا ہے کہ اس سے خطرہ ٹلنے والا نہیں ، اس سلسلے میں جب پاک فوج کے محکمہ تعلقات عامہ سے دو مرتبہ رابطہ کیا گیا تو ایک مرتبہ ڈی جی آئی ایس پی آر کے دفتر کی جانب سے یہ کہا گیاکہ اس خبر پر کوئی تبصرہ ڈی جی آئی ایس پی آر ہی کر سکتے ہیں جبکہ دوسری مرتبہ رابطہ کرنے پر بتایا گیا کہ ڈی جی آئی ایس پی آر اس وقت ایک اہم میٹنگ میں مصروف ہیں اس لیے دستیاب نہیں ہو سکتے جونہی وہ میٹنگ سے فارغ ہوں گے خود ان کا رابطہ کر لیا جائے گا۔دوسری طرف آرمی ہاؤس خالی کرانے کے لیے دباؤ اور آرمی ہاؤس کے سائن بورڈ ہٹا کر پریذیڈنٹ لاج کا سائن بورڈ لگانے کے بارے میں ایوان صدر کا موقف بھی جاننے کی کوشش کی گئی تاہم صدارتی ترجمان میجر جنرل(ر) راشد قریشی سے رابطہ نہ ہو سکا ان کے پی اے محمد شیراز نے کہاکہ ’’ صاحب ‘‘ موجود نہیں ہیں ، جب صدارتی ترجمان کے موبائل پر بار بار کال کرنے کی کوشش کی گئی تو ان کا سیلیا تو بند ملایا پھر اسے اٹنڈ نہیں کیا گیا ۔اس تمام صورت حال کے بعد ا ب امکان ہے کہ بڑھتے ہوئے اس دباؤ کے نتیجے میں صدر پرویز مشرف کسی بھی وقت ’’ایوانِ صدر‘‘ اسلام آباد منتقل ہو سکتے ہیں تاہم اگر پھر بھی انھوں نے ایسا نہ کیا تو آنے والے دنوں میں صورت حال انتہائی خطرناک ہو سکتی ہے ۔

قومی صحت پالیسی کا اعلان جلد ہو گا ، تمام بی ایچ یوز کو ضروری سہولیات فراہم کی جائیں گی ، وزیر اعظم

صحت کے شعبہ کے لیے وزیراعظم پروگرام شروع کیا جارہاہے ۔ چاروں صوبوں کی بی ایچ یوز میں ڈاکٹر سٹاف اور ادویات کی دستیابی یقینی بنائی جائے گی ، یوسف رضا گیلانی کا قومی اسمبلی میں بیانآئندہ مالی سال کے دوران ملک کی تمام یونین کونسلوں میں پینے کے صاف پانی کے پلانٹ لگائے جائیں گے ، شیری رحمانسابق وزیر ریلوے کا خسارہ میں کمی کا دعویٰ غلط تھا ، گزشتہ تین سالوں کے دوران 1395854 ایکڑ ریلوے اراضی متعدد مقاصد کے لیے لیز پر دی گئی ، سید خورشید شاہ

اسلام آباد ۔ وزیر اعظم سید یوسف رضا گیلانی نے کہا ہے کہ جلد قومی صحت پالیسی کا اعلان ہو گا۔ ملک بھر کے تمام صحت کے بنیادی مراکز میں تمام ضروری و مطلوبہ سہولیات فراہم کی جائیں گی۔ اس امر کا اظہار انہوںنے جمعرات کو قومی اسمبلی میں وفاقی وزیر صحت کے حوالے سے وقفہ سوالات کے دوران کیا ۔ وزیر اعظم نے کہاکہ حکومت نے صحت کے شعبہ کو ترجیحات میں شامل کیاہے صحت کے شعبہ کے لیے وزیر اعظم پروگرام شروع کیا جارہاہے چاروں صوبوں میں صحت کے بنیادی مراکز میں ڈاکٹر ، اسٹا ف اور ادویات کی دستیابی کو یقینی بنایا جائے گا جلد ہی صحت کی قومی پالیسی کا اعلان ہو گا۔ انہوں نے کہاکہ صحت کی بنیادی سہولتوں کی فراہمی کے لیے حکومت مختلف اقدام کرے گی۔ ایک سوال کے جواب میں وفاقی وزیر شیری رحمان نے کہا کہ آئندہ مالی سال کے دوران ملک کی تمام یونین کونسلوں میں پینے کے صاف پانی کے پلانٹ لگیں گے۔ بیگم یاسمین رحمان کے سوال کے جواب میں وفاقی وزیر صحت شیری رحمان نے کہاکہ گزشتہ تین سالوں کے دوران وفاقی حکومت کے تحت چار ہسپتال قائم کئے گئے۔دو دراز کے علاقوں کے احساس محرومی کے خاتمے کے لیے صحت کی بنیادی سہولتوں کی فراہمی کے لیے اقدامات کئے جا رہے ہیں ۔ ہیپاٹائٹس کے حوالے سے طبی سہولت کی فراہمی ای ڈی او کی ذمہ داری ہے۔ ایک سوال کے جواب میں وزیر صحت نے کہاکہ گزشتہ چار سالوں میں پاکستان کو صحت کے شعبہ کے حوالے سے 1739.01594 ملین روپے گلوبل فنڈ اور یونیسیف سے 184.158553 ملین روپے ملے ۔ضمنی سوالات کے جواب میں انہوں نے کہا کہ لیڈی ہیلتھ ورکرز کی تعداد میں ایک لاکھ اضافے کا فیصلہ کیا گیا ہے بجٹ میں رقم مختص کی جا رہی ہے ۔ پولیو مہم کے حوالے سے دوسرے مرحلے میں 1282238 ، تیسرے مرحلے میں 6906376 ، چوتھے مرحلے میں 20586497 پانچویں مرحلے میں 35322571 یعنی 101 فیصد بچوں کو شامل کیا جائیگا۔ فوزیہ وہاب کے سوال کے جواب میں وفاقی وزیر ریلوے سید خورشید شاہ نے کہاکہ ریلوے کا کل خسارہ 11115.355 ملین روپے ہے ۔ ریلوے کے 2006-7 میں محاصل 11674.140 ملین روپے ہوئے اس میں کل خسارہ 6239.625 ملین روپے تھا۔ سابقہ وزیر ریلوے کا خسارہ میں کمی کا دعویٰ غلط تھا۔ گزشتہ تین سالوں کے دوران 1395854 ایکڑ ریلوے اراضی متعدد مقاصد کے لیے لیز پر دی گئی ہے۔ تاہم کوئی زمین فروخت نہیں کی گئی ہے۔ ایک سوال کے جواب میں وزیر صحت شیری رحمان نے کہاکہ گزشتہ سال آزاد کشمیر سمیت ملک بھر میں 30662 ہیپاٹائٹس کے مریضوں کو رجسٹرڈ کیا گیا تھا ۔ وفاقی صوبائی اور صلعی سطح پر ہیپاٹائٹس کے خاتمے کاپروگرام شروع کیا گیا ہے جلد ہی قومی صحت پالیسی کا اعلان ہو گا ضلع اور صوبے صحت کے شعبے کے حوالے سے خود مختار ہوں گے ۔تین مرحلوں میں ملک بھر میں 150 تحصیل و ضلعی ہیڈ کوارٹر کے ہسپتالوں میں پانی صاف کرنیوالے پلانٹوں کی تنصیب اور صوبائی سطحوں پر پانی کے معیار کنٹرول کرنے والے تجربہ گاہوں کو فروغ دیا جائے گا۔ چوہدری پرجیس طاہر کے سوال کے جواب میں وزیر ریلوے نے کہاکہ ریلوے میں مسافروں کی سہولت کے لیے 38 کمپیوٹرائزڈ ریزرویشن سنٹر قائم کئے گئے ہیں ۔ ریزرویشنز کے اوقات بجے بڑھا دئیے گئے ہیں۔ ۔ ایک سوال کے جواب میں وفاقی وزیر صحت شیری رحمان نے کہاکہ ملک کی پانچ سے چھ فیصد آبادی میں ہیپاٹائٹس سی اور ہیپٹائٹس بی کا تین سے چار فیصد پھیلاؤ ہے ۔ ہسپتالوں میں مریضوں کو مفت انجکشن فراہم کئے جاتے ہیں ۔ 1500 انجکشن کی خریداری کے لیے رقم مختص ہے ۔انہوں نے ایک سوال کے جواب میں کہاکہ ترقی نسواں کی ترقی کے حوالے سے2008-9 ء میں سولہ میگا پروجیکٹ شروع کئے جائیں گے سابقہ حکومت میں دعویٰ کیا گیا مگر خواتین کی ترقی اور انہیں با اختیار بنانے کے حوالے سے انتہائی قلیل فنڈز رکھے گئے

عدلیہ کی آزادی اور ججوں کی بحالی کیلئے ملک بھر کے وکلاء کا عدالتوں کا بائیکاٹ ، آئینی پیکج مسترد

راولپنڈی ۔ پاکستان بار کونسل و ہائی کورٹس بار پنجاب کی اپیل پر ملک بھر کے وکلاء نے جمعرات کے روز عدلیہ کی آزادی ، معزول ججز کی بحالی کے لیے عدالتوں کا بائیکاٹ کیا اور آئینی پیکجز کو مسترد کردیا ۔ راولپنڈی میں ہائی کورٹ اور ڈسٹرکٹ بار کے صدر مشترکہ اجلاس سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے انہوں نے کہا کہ دس جون کا لانگ مارچ 2 نومبر والی عدلیہ کو بحال کرنے کی کڑی ہے ۔ اعلان مری پرعملدرآمد نہیں ہوس کا انہوں نے کہا کہ ملتان سے شروع ہونے والا لانگ مارچ تیرہ جون کو راولپنڈی پہنچے گا ۔ چیف جسٹس آف پاکستان افتخار محمد چوہدری لاہور سے لانگ مارچ میں شامل ہوں گے ، سول سوسائٹی ا ور طلباء سے رابطے ہیں جبکہ یہ لانگ مارچ لاکھوں افرا دپر مشتمل ہو گا۔ پارلیمنٹ کے باہر لانگ مارچ کے شرکاء دھرنا دیںگے ۔ سردار عصمت اللہ نے کہاکہ لانگ مارچ میں شریک وکلاء ہمارے مہمان ہوں گے ۔ ہم نے دس ہزار سے زائد وکلاء کو ٹھہرانے کے انتظامات کیے ہیں تحریک نصاف ، جماعت اسلامی ، مسلم لیگ(ن) کی مقامی قیادت سے مشاورت ہو چکی ہے پینے کے پانی ، ایمبولینس اور دیگر ضروریات کا خیال رکھا گیا ہے لانگ مارچ کو کامیاب بنانا ہماری اولین ترجیح ہے اسلام آباد میں بھی پی پی پی کے حامی و علما ہمارے ساتھ تحریک میں شامل ہیں۔ ڈسٹرکٹ بار کے سیکرتری جنرل واجد خان تنولی نے کہا کہ افتخار محمد چوہدری اور دیگر ججز کی بحالی تک وکلاء اپنی تحریک جاری رکھیں گے تحریک کو کامیاب کرنے کی زیادہ ذمہ د اری راولپنڈی اسلام آباد کے وکلاء پر ہے ۔ پورے پاکستان کے وکلاء متحد ہیں۔ توفیق آصف ایڈووکیٹ نے کہا کہ کب تک پوری قوم اور ہمیں آزمائش میں رکھا جائے گا قوم کے ساتھ پارلیمنٹ میں وعدہ کیا گیا مگر قوم کو دھوکہ دیا گیا پارلیمنٹ کو براہ راست پر رکھنا عوام کی ذمہ داری ہے انہوں نے کہا کہ الیکشن میں عوام سے پارلیمنٹ کی بالادستی اور عدلیہ کی آزادی کے لیے نعرے لگانے والوں کو ان کا وعدہ یاد دلانے کے لیے لانگ مارچ کررہے ہیں ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ بے ضمیر جج وہی ہیں جنہوں نے قائد عوام کو پھانسی پر لٹکایا اور مارشل لاء کو تحفظ دیا ہم ایسے ججز کا محاسبہ کرناچاہتے ہیں یہ مفاد پرست جج موقع ملنے پر کسی کو بھی ڈس سکتے ہیں آزاد عدلیہ کے لیے ہماری جدوجہد جاری رہے گی ایگزیکٹو آرڈر جاری ہونے تک بھوک پیاس اور کھائے پیے بغیر احتجاج کریں گے روز روز احتجاج کی بجائے یا جئیں گے یا مریں گے ہمیں فیصلہ کن جنگ کرنی ہو گی آئینی کمیٹیوں نے آئینی پیکج میں اگر مشرف کے غیر آئینی اقدامات کو تحفظ دینے کی کوشش کی تو اسے تسلیم نہیں کریں گے۔ آئینی پیکج پر وکلاء کو اعتماد میں نہیں لیا گیا پندرہ ماہ سے ہم سڑکوں پر ہیں چھبیس جج کیوں مشرف کی ضرورت ہیں ۔ ہمیں بتایاجائے کہ چیف جسٹس کے عہدے کی مدت کم کیوں کی جا رہی ہے ۔ سپریم کورٹ بار کے سابق نائب صدر محمد اکرام چوہدری نے کہا کہ لانگ مارچ کو شارٹ مارچ نہیں ہونا چاہیے انہوں نے کہا کہ مخصوص قوتیں ائینی پیکج کو طول دے رہی ہیں انہوں نے کہاکہ صوبائی اور فیڈرل سپریم کورٹ کے منصوبہ ا ور ارادہ پر ہیں وزیر قانون کی مذمت کرتا ہوں ۔ وقت آگیا ہے کہ افتخار محمد چوہدری سمیت دیگر ججز کو بحال کیا جائے ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ آصف علی زرداری کا رویہ ہماری تحریک کے حوالہ سے طنزیہ ہے ۔ جسے وکلاء پر برداشت نہیں کریں گے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ یہ انتہائی نازک و قت ہے ۔ پیپلزپارٹی کے وکلاء نے پشاور اور فیصل آباد میں منعقدہ کنونشن میں بھرپور شرکت کی ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ آصف علی زرادری سے ہماری اپیل ہے کہ پاکستان کے فیڈریشن سے نہ کھیلیں اور پاکستان میں آزاد اور خود مختار عدلیہ کی بنیاد رکھیں ۔ پارلیمنٹ میں دو تہائی اکثریت کے ساتھ مشرف کا مواخذہ کرکے اسے گھر بھجوا دیں۔ پارلیمنٹ کے باہر دھرنا ایگزیکٹو آرڈر کے جاری ہونے تک جاری رہے گا آئینی پیکج کو تسلیم نہیں کرتے ہائی کورٹ بار کے سیکرٹری جنرل صدیق اعوان نے کہا کہ آئینی پیکج حکومت میں شامل تین غیر منتخب وزراء اور رحمن ملک نے تیار کیا ہے جس پر پیپلزپارتی کے بعض وکلاء نے بھی اپنے تحفظات کا اظہار کیا ہے ۔ جب تک ہمارے ججز اپنی نشستوں پر بیٹھ کر عدالتی امور سرانجام نہیں دیتے تب تک ہماری جدوجہد جاری رہے گی ۔ لانگ مارچ کو کامیاب بنانا ملک کے سولہ کروڑ عوام کی ذمہ داری ہے سیاسی جماعتوں ، سول سوسائٹی ، طلباء ، تنظیموں نے بھرپور تعاون کی یقین دہانی کروائی ہے وزیراعظم اگر منتخب ہونے کے بعد ججز کی رہائی کا حکم دے سکتے ہیں تو ججز کی بحالی کے لیے بھی حکم جاری کرسکتے ہیں ہم بلا تفریق کسی پارٹی ورکر وکلاء پلیٹ فارم پر متحد ہیں ڈسٹرکٹ بار راولپنڈی کے سابق صدر سید ذوالفقارع عباس نقوی اور دیگر وکلائن ے بھی بار کے اجلاس سے خطاب کیا ۔

ہائی کورٹ نے شریف بردران کو ١٨جون کو طلب کر لیا

فل بینچ نے شہباز شریف کو وزیر اعلی پنجاب کا حلف لینے اور نواز شریف کو انتخابات میں حصہ لینے کی درخواستیں مسترد کر دیںلاہور ۔ لاہور ہائی کورٹ کے فل بنچ نے شریف برادران کو الیکشن لڑنے کی اجازت دینے کے خلاف دائر درخواستوں پر میاں محمد نواز شریف اور شہباز شریف کو 18جون کو طلب کر لیا ہے۔ درخواست کی سماعت کے موقعے پر مسلم لیگ (ن )کے کارکنوں اور وکلاء کی بڑی تعداد عدالت میں موجود تھی۔ سماعت کے دوران جسٹس فضل میران چوہان جسٹس حسنات احمد اور جسٹس محمد احسن بھون پر مشتمل فل بنچ نے میں شہباز شریف کو پنجاب اسمبلی کی رکنیت کا حلف اٹھانے اور نواز شریف کو انتخابات میں حصہ لینے سے روکنے کی درخواستیں منظور نہیں کیں۔ کیس کی مزید سماعت 18جون کو ہو گی

وزیراعلی پنجاب سردار دوست محمد کھوسہ سمیت صوبائی کابینہ کل مستعفی ہوجائے گی

لاہور ۔ سینئر صوبائی وزیر وپیپلز پارٹی کے رہنما راجہ ریاض نے کہا ہے کہ وزیراعلی پنجاب سردار دوست محمد کھوسہ کل (جمعہ) مستعفی ہوجائیں گے جس کے باعث 16رکنی کولیشن کابینہ بھی ازخود ختم ہوجائے گی۔ مسلم لیگ (ن) کے صدر میاں شہبازشریف آئندہ وزارت اعلیٰ کیلئے پیپلز پارٹی اور مسلم لیگ (ن) کے مشترکہ امیدوار ہوں گے۔ نئی صوبائی کابینہ میں بھی پیپلز پارٹی کے موجودہ وزراء یہی وزارتیں سنبھالیں گے اور دونوں جماعتیں آئندہ بھی مل کر عوام کی بہتری کیلئے کام کریں گی۔ ان خیالات کا اظہار انہوں نے آج یہاں پریس کانفرنس میں کیا۔ اس موقع پر صوبائی کابینہ میں پیپلز پارٹی کے چھ وزراء ڈاکٹر تنویر اسلام، محمد اشرف سوہنا، مسز نیلم جبار چودھری، فاروق گھرکی ، حاجی اسحق اور تنویر اشرف کائرہ بھی موجود تھے۔ راجہ ریاض نے کہا کہ ہم نے صوبائی وزیراعلی سردار دوست محمد کھوسہ کے ساتھ مکمل تعاون کیا جبکہ آئندہ وزیراعلی پنجاب میاں شہبازشریف سے بھی ہمارا مکمل تعاون جاری رہے گا۔ مرکزی حکومت کو بھی پنجاب سے مکمل تعاون ملے گا۔ ایک سوال پر انہوں نے کہا کہ گورنر پنجاب سلمان تاثیر کے حوالے سے مسلم لیگ (ن) کے موقف میں ماضی کے مقابلہ میں خاصی نرمی آچکی ہے۔ انہوں نے کہاکہ میاں شہبازشریف کے حلف اٹھانے کے بعد پیپلزپارٹی کے موجودہ وزراء ہی نئی کابینہ کا حصہ ہوں گے اور انہی وزارتوں کا قلمدان سنبھال گے۔ تاہم کابینہ کے حجم میں اضافہ بجٹ کے بعد کیا جائے گا۔ ایک سوال پر انہوں نے کہا کہ پیپلز پارٹی اور مسلم لیگ (ن) کے پالیسیوں اور نظریات میں واضح فرق ہے تاہم دونوں کا اصل ایجنڈا عوام کی خدمت کرنا ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم بھی صوبہ میں کنٹریکٹ ملازمین کو ریگولر کرن چاہتے ہیں تاہم اس کیلئے بڑے بجٹ کی ضرورت ہے۔

لاہور ۔ پاک فوج کے سابق سربراہ ریٹائرڈ جنرل اسلم بیگ نے کہا ہے کہ صدر پرویز مشرف کا کھیل ختم ہو گیا ہے اس لیے انہیں باعزت طور پر مستعفی ہو جانا چاہیے ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ وکلاء تحریک سول سوساء۔ٹی کے تعاون سے کامیاب ہو گی ، جمعرات کو لاہور ہائی کورٹ سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے جنرل اسلم بیگ نے کہا ہے کہ اگر وکلاء تحریک کے پاس کوئی سیاسی ایجنڈا نہ ہوا تو ان کے خلاف سازشیں ہوتی رہیں گی انہوں نے کہا کہ اگر پیپلز پارٹی اپنا 77نکاتی فارمولہ دے سکتی ہے تو وکلاء بھی کم از کم سات نکاتی ایجنڈا دیں جس میں ان کی منزل کی نشاندہی ہو اسلم بیگ نے کہا کہ وکلاء جب تک ایک سیاسی ایجنڈا نہیں دیں گے ان کا اتحاد قائم نہیں رہ سکے گا اور نہ ہی وہ مل کر بیٹھ سکیں گے اور نہ ہی عوامی مینڈیٹ کا اقدام کر سکیں گے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ جب تک وکلاء کی آواز ایوانوں میں نہیں گونجے گی ان کی تحریک کمزور رہے گی سیاسی ایجنڈے کے بغیر تحریک کامیاب نہیں ہو سکے گی اور وہ یوں ہی سڑکوں پر رہیں گے ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ قائداعظم بھی ایک وکیل تھے جنہوں نے اپنا تحریک قانون کی بالا دستی تک محدود نہیں کی بلکہ پورے برصغیر میں ایک ایجنڈے کے تحت تحریک چلائی جس کے نتیجے میں پاکستان وجود میں آیا۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ 18فروری کو عوام نے جو مینڈیٹ دیا تھا وہ بیرونی قوتوں کو پسند نہیں آیا جس کی وجہ سے وہ حکومت پر دباؤ ڈال رہی ہیں کہ عوامی مینڈیٹ ان کے ایجنڈے کے مطابق نہیں ہے اسی وجہ سے موجودہ حکومت کے خلاف سازشیں ہو رہی ہیں انہوں نے کہا کہ بے نظیر بھٹو کو بھی بیرونی طاقتوں نے اپنے ایجنڈے کے تحت پاکستان بھیجا تھا لیکن بے نظیر نے پاکستان میں آ کر یہ محسوس کیا کہ وہ اس ایجنڈے پر کام نہیں کر سکتیں کیونکہ اس طرح نہ صرف ان کی ساکھ کو خطرہ تھا بلکہ پارٹی کی سالمیت بھی خطرے میں تھی۔ اسلم بیگ نے کہا کہ اگر وکلاء اور سول سوسائٹی مل کر چلتی رہی تو ایک دن انقلاب آ جائے گا جسے روکنا محال ہو گا انہوں نے کہا کہ صدر پرویز مشرف کا نظام تیزی سے زوال پذیر ہے اور صدر پرویز مشرف کی پوزیشن کمزور ہو رہی ہے اور انہیں فوری طور پر مستعفی ہو جانا چاہیے انہوں نے کہا کہ اگر موجودہ حکومتی اتحاد ٹوٹا تو یہ پاکستان کے لیے بہتر نہیں ہو گا

Bush's bankrupt vision

IN MID-May, President Bush travelled to the Middle East to establish his legacy more firmly in the part of the world that has been the prime focus of his presidency.
The trip had two principal destinations, each chosen to celebrate a major anniversary: Israel, the 60th anniversary of its founding and recognition by the United States, and Saudi Arabia, the 75th anniversary of US recognition of the newly founded kingdom. The choices made good sense in the light of history and the enduring character of US Middle East policy: control of oil, and support of the proxies who help maintain it.
An omission, however, was not lost on the people of the region. Though Bush celebrated the founding of Israel, he did not recognise (let alone commemorate) the paired event from 60 years ago: the destruction of Palestine, the Nakba, as Palestinians refer to the events that expelled them from their lands.
During his three days in Jerusalem, the president was an enthusiastic participant in lavish events and made sure to go to Masada, a near-sacred site of Jewish nationalism.
But he did not visit the seat of the Palestinian authority in Ramallah, or Gaza City, or a refugee camp, or the town of Qalqilya — strangled by the Separation Wall, now becoming an Annexation Wall under the illegal Israeli settlement and development programmes that Bush has endorsed officially, the first president to do so.
And it was out of the question that he would have any contact with Hamas leaders and parliamentarians, chosen in the only free election in the Arab world, many of them in Israeli jails with no pretense of judicial proceedings.
The pretexts for this stance scarcely withstand a moment's analysis. Also of no moment is the fact that Hamas has repeatedly called for a two-state settlement in accord with the international consensus that the United States and Israel have rejected, virtually alone, for more than 30 years, and still do.
Bush did allow the US favourite, Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas, to participate in meetings in Egypt with many regional leaders. Bush's last visit to Saudi Arabia was in January. On both trips, he sought, without success, to draw the kingdom into the anti-Iranian alliance he has been seeking to forge. That is no small task, despite the concern of the Sunni rulers over the "Shia crescent" and growing Iranian influence, regularly termed "aggressiveness."
For the Saudi rulers, accommodation with Iran may be preferable to confrontation. And though public opinion is marginalised, it cannot be completely dismissed. In a recent poll of Saudis, Bush ranked far above Osama bin Laden in the "very unfavourable" category, and more than twice as high as Iranian President Ahmadinejad and Hassan Nasrallah, leader of Hezbollah, Iran's Shia ally in Lebanon.
US-Saudi relations date to the recognition of the Kingdom in 1933 — not coincidentally, the year when Standard of California obtained a petroleum concession and American geologists began to explore what turned out to be the world's largest reserves of oil.
The United States quickly moved to ensure its own control, important steps in a process by which the United States took over world dominance from Britain, which was slowly reduced to a "junior partner," as the British Foreign Office lamented, unable to counter "the economic imperialism of American business interests, which is quite active under the cloak of a benevolent and avuncular internationalism" and is "attempting to elbow us out."
The strong US-Israel alliance took its present form in 1967, when Israel performed a major service to the United States by destroying the main center of secular Arab nationalism, Nasser's Egypt, also safeguarding the Saudi rulers from the secular nationalist threat. US planners had recognised a decade earlier that a "logical corollary" of US opposition to "radical" (that is, independent) Arab nationalism would be "to support Israel as the only strong pro-Western power left in the Middle East."
Investment by US corporations in Israeli high-tech industry has sharply increased, including Intel, Hewlett Packard, Microsoft, Warren Buffett and others, joined by major investors from Japan and India — in the latter case, one facet of a growing US-Israel-India strategic alliance.
To be sure, other factors underlie the US-Israeli relationship. In Jerusalem, Bush invoked "the bonds of the book," the faith "shared by Christians like himself and Jews," the Australian Press reported, but apparently not shared by Muslims or even Christian Arabs, like those in Bethlehem, now barred from occupied Jerusalem, a few kilometres away, by illegal Israeli construction projects.
The Saudi Gazette bitterly condemned Bush's "audacity to call Israel the 'homeland for the chosen people' — the terminology of ultrareligious Israeli hardliners. The Gazette added that Bush's "particular brand of moral bankruptcy was on full display when he made only passing mention of a Palestinian state in his vision of the region 60 years hence."
It is not difficult to discern why Bush's chosen legacy should stress relations with Israel and Saudi Arabia, with a side glance at Egypt, along with disdain for the Palestinians and their miserable plight, apart from a few ritual phrases.
We need not tarry on the thought that the president's choices have anything to do with justice, human rights or the vision of "democracy promotion" that gripped his soul as soon as the pretexts for the invasion of Iraq had collapsed.
But the choices do accord with a general principle, observed with considerable consistency: Rights are assigned in accord with service to power.
Palestinians are poor, weak, dispersed and friendless. It is elementary, then, that they should have no rights. In sharp contrast, Saudi Arabia has incomparable resources of energy, Egypt is the major Arab state, and Israel is a rich Western country and the regional powerhouse, with air and armoured forces that are larger and technologically more advanced than any NATO power (apart from its patron) along with hundreds of nuclear weapons, and with an advanced and largely militarised economy closely linked to the United States.
The contours of the intended legacy are therefore quite predictable.

Gurgaon: Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Monday denied media reports that she is in the family way.
"I am not pregnant," Aishwarya, looking as glamorous as ever in a formal black suit, told reporters at a press conference at the PVR Ambience shopping mall here, on the outskirts of Delhi. Aishwarya, along with her husband Abhishek and father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan, was here to launch the Idea Sarkar Raj Yatra.She also dismissed reports that the couple had bought a bungalow in Dubai to hide her pregnancy from the media."I am sitting here in front of you. So, it is not true that we have got a bungalow in Dubai to hide (pregnancy) from the media," she said.Abhishek added: "We are not expecting a baby. In case we do, we will let you know. We will not rob you of that moment."She also clarified that she had not worn Rs.1 million-worth shades in "Sarkar Raj", that stars all three of them, as reported in the media earlier."I am not wearing a Rs.1 million worth sunglass in the film as reported by the media," she said.

Kareena Kapoor going crazy with chock-a-block schedule

Mumbai: With five films, nine endorsements and three stage shows, Kareena Kapoor says she is overworked and exhausted.
"I've five films in various stages of production. Then I've nine endorsements for which I've to shoot ads round the year. Plus I've all these stage shows that require rehearsals. I can't seem to find the time to do anything properly," Kareena told IANS on phone from Melbourne.She's shooting for Salman Khan's "Main Aur Mrs Khanna" in Melbourne.She has, in fact, agreed to perform at the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards on June 8 in Bangkok and is rehearsing for it."I'm performing a medley of my songs from "Jab We Met" and "Tashan". Gone are the days when I'd go on stage with just a little practice. Now I want to be my best in every stage performance."Here in Melbourne I'm rehearsing for IIFA at nights and shooting during the day. Am I overworked? I'm exhausted. But what choice do I have? I've decided to take my live performances as seriously as my movies and endorsements," she said.After Melbourne and the IIFA performance, Kareena will spend some time with her beau Saif Ali Khan in London and then move to Los Angeles for a 40-day shooting for Sajid Nadiadwala's "Kambakht Ishq"."I'll be away from home for more than three months at a stretch. Pakistan stocks up by about 5 per cent on tax delay

KARACHI - Pakistan stocks staged a massive rebounce Wednesday, gaining around 5 per cent on reports that government is likely to delay taxes on stock trading for at least next two years, traders said.
The key KSE-100 Index shot up by 4.8 per cent, breaching the major psychological barrier to close at 13,089 points against Tuesday's 12,479.
"The delay in the Capital Gains Tax was the prime factor in pulling up stocks today," said Munir Ladha, a director at Karachi Stock Exchange.
Ladha said the market was in a very positive mood and would see gains in coming three months, if political conditions remained stable.
Earlier, there were reports that the government was planning to levy a 15 to 20 per cent tax on stock trading in the upcoming budget for fiscal 2008-09 that begins in July.
The Karachi bourse saw a loss of over 1,500 points during the last two weeks of May due to interest rate hike by the central State Bank of Pakistan amid political uncertainty over rumours of resignation by embattled President Pervez Musharraf.
"The market is quite attractive for foreign investors right now," said Saad Ahmed, head of research at Capital One Equities.

Pak officials await cricketer Asif's drug test results

DUBAI/ISLAMABAD - Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Asif, held in Dubai on drug possession charges on his way home after playing in the Indian Premier League, will get to know whether he can leave for Pakistan only after the results
of the laboratory tests on the substance found on him come in.
‘We are awaiting the results of the laboratory tests on the substance found on him,’ Pakistan's Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ahsan Ullah Khan told IANS from Abu Dhabi.
‘We hope there is a positive outcome so that he can be released at the earliest and leave for Pakistan,’ he said.
The ambassador added that a lawyer has been appointed by the Pakistan mission to aid the cricketer.
He also dismissed media reports that charges against the cricketer have been dropped.
An official in the Pakistan consulate in Dubai told reporters: ‘There is no question of charges against Mohammad Asif being dropped (by UAE authorities) when no charge has been filed against him as yet.’
The Pakistani fast bowler was detained by customs authorities at the Dubai International Airport Sunday for allegedly possessing drugs.
He was on his way back to Lahore via Dubai from Mumbai where he had played the Indian Premier League (IPL) semifinal for the Delhi Daredevils against Rajasthan Royals last Friday.
Dubai airport customs authorities handed him over to the drugs unit of Dubai Police early Tuesday.
His blood and urine samples as well as the drugs found on him were sent for laboratory tests Tuesday.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Tuesday backed the player, saying he was innocent till formally charged by UAE authorities.
The PCB said Tuesday that Asif was apparently carrying only some ‘medicines’ and not banned drugs.
‘We are hopeful that the matter would be resolved soon and the whole affair would prove to be a big mistake,’ PCB chief operating officer Shafqat Naghmi told a press conference in Lahore.
He said that PCB considered him innocent until UAE authorities file a chargesheet against him.
Asif was banned for a year and his teammate Shoaib Akhtar for two years after they tested positive for the steroid Nandrolone in October 2006. The ban was removed on appeal two months later.
Naghmi earlier said Asif, if found guilty this time, could face a life ban.
According to World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) rules, an athlete faces a life ban if he or she is found positive a second time. Asif was acquitted the first time.
IPL sources said Asif might be banned from future editions of the tournament if he was found guilty.
Various players were tested at random for dope during the IPL tournament that ended Sunday. IPL officials were reportedly planning to submit Asif's recent samples for re-analysis.
Contacted by IANS, International Cricket Council (ICC) officials in Dubai refused to comment on the issue.
‘This is purely an internal matter of the PCB and is not related to any ICC event. The ICC cannot comment on this,’ an official said.

Detained Asif dropped from Pakistan squad for tri-series

KARACHI - Paceman Mohammad Asif has been dropped from the Pakistan squad for the triangular one-day series in Bangladesh after he remained in custody at Dubai airport following his detention for the possession of illegal drugs.
A Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) spokesman told reporters on Wednesday that Asif's place would be taken by young fast bowler Sohail Khan, two days before the squad leaves for Bangladesh to play in the series that also involves India.
"Logistically it is difficult to send Asif to Bangladesh now as his visa is not ready and we don't know when he will be home," the spokesman said.
"The selectors have decided to send Sohail Khan instead."
Khan made his debut against Zimbabwe earlier this year and has played in three one-day internationals.
Asif, who has appeared in 11 tests and 28 one-dayers, was detained at Dubai airport on Sunday when he was returning to Lahore from India.
Airport authorities found a small amount of an alleged banned substance in his possession.
Shafqat Naghmi, the PCB's chief operating officer, said board and Pakistan embassy officials were pursuing Asif's case with authorities in Dubai.
"I don't know when this issue can be resolved but the substance has been sent for lab tests as have blood and urine samples of the fast bowler," Naghmi said.
"The reports will go to the public prosecutor and he will decide if charges are to be pressed against Asif or if he can be released," he added.
The Pakistani paceman has been detained at the airport for the last three days.

27.2% of UAE's males smoke tobacco

DUBAI - Over one quarter (27.2 per cent) of the UAE's male population and only 2.4 per cent female population smoke tobacco, according to World Health Organisation (WHO) Report on the Global Tobacco Epidemic 2008.

WHO estimates that there are more than one billion smokers in the world today, with tobacco use killing 5.4 million people a year, an average of one person every six seconds.
The UAE Ministry of Health has been actively fighting the prevalence of smoking in the country through various initiatives designed to raise awareness of the dangers of smoking and to discourage the habit.
The report says, "Among smokers who are aware of the dangers of tobacco, three out of four want to quit.
"But like people hooked to any addiction, it is difficult for most tobacco users to quit on their own, and they benefit from help and support to overcome their dependence."
George Wagih, spokesperson for the 'Nicorette' Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) range, says, "Over 35 million smokers try to quit each year, yet less than five per cent are able to complete a year."
According to the WHO report, "In addition to medical advice and quit lines (telephone support), effective treatment can also include pharmacological treatment such as NRT. NRT can double quit rates and reduces withdrawal symptoms by substituting for some of the nicotine absorbed from tobacco," he says.

Shaikh Nasser dies in copter crash; UAE mourns

ABU DHABI — The President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, yesterday announced the death of Shaikh Nasser bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who died on Monday night when a helicopter carrying him and his colleagues crashed into the Arabian Gulf.

Jerusalem must remain undivided capital: Obama

WASHINGTON - US Democratic presumptive nominee Barack Obama said Wednesday that Jerusalem must remain the "undivided" capital of Israel in a speech to a powerful US-Israel lobby group here.
"Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel and it must remain undivided," Obama told the vast annual policy conference of the American Israel Public Affairs Council (AIPAC).
Addressing the group in almost his first act since claiming the Democratic nomination late Tuesday, Obama said he was a "true friend" of Israel and that the US bond with the Jewish state was "unbreakable."
Obama drew a standing ovation as he arrived to address the mighty US-Israel lobby, and also addressed perceived suspicion of him in some sectors of the Jewish community.
"As president I will never compromise when it comes to Israel's security," Obama said in a cavernous Washington conference center, his image emblazoned across eight massive cinema-style screens.
Obama said in the strikingly pro-Israel speech that the US bond with the Jewish state was "unbreakable today, unbreakable tomorrow, unbreakable for ever," adding he was speaking from his heart as a "true friend" of Israel.
Republicans have hammered Obama over his offer to talk to leaders of US foe Iran, saying the strategy ignores repeated warnings by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to destroy Israel.
But he said it was time to abandon Middle East policies of President George W. Bush, which he said had made Israel less safe, and accused Republican presumptive nominee John McCain of wanting to prolong them.
"There are those who would continue and intensify this failed status quo, ignoring eight years of accumulated evidence that our foreign policy is dangerously flawed," Obama said.
Obama warned Islamist movement Hamas must renounce violence, pledged to stand up for Israel's right to defend itself at the United Nations and to provide the Jewish state the means to guarantee its security.
"We must isolate Hamas unless and until they renounce terrorism, recognize Israel's right to exist, and abide by past agreements. There is no room at the negotiating table for terrorist organizations."
He said he would push for an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal if elected president in November.
"Any agreement the Palestinian people must preserve Israel's identity as a Jewish state," Obama said.

US, Pakistan military chiefs meet in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD - US military chief Admiral Mike Mullen held counter-terrorism talks with Pakistani army top brass Wednesday, two days after a suicide bomb killed six people in the capital, officials said.
Mullen met Pakistan army chief General Ashfaq Kayani for a second time following his arrival Tuesday on a two-day visit, his third trip to nuclear-armed Pakistan since February.
The meetings come amid concerns in Washington over peace talks between Taliban militants and the new government in Islamabad, which came to power after defeating the party loyal to President Pervez Musharraf in February elections.

Musharraf reconciled to exit - Pakistani govt adviser

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf, threatened by possible impeachment, is reconciled to stepping down before he is hounded out of office, according to a senior adviser to the new government.
US ally Musharraf, who came to power as a general after a coup in 1999, has probably got a matter of weeks, at most a few months, before the curtain falls, political insiders say.
‘He is prepared to go and go with dignity,’ said the source close to the leadership of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), which heads the 2-month-old coalition government.
‘We will try to make it very dignified,’ the PPP source said, adding it was politically difficult to be seen helping the disliked president as such a stance risked losing popular support.
Although Musharraf has been a staunch ally in the U.S.-led ‘war on terror’ and launched a peace initiative with India, his exit is unlikely to disturb either so long as Pakistan stabilises.
The United States has good communications with Musharraf's successor as army chief, General Ashfaq Kayani, and the PPP-led government is following through on the peace process.
Foreign allies, including both the United States and Saudi Arabia, are pressing for a transition to civilian-led democracy which avoids further upheaval in nuclear-armed Pakistan.
The army has ruled Pakistan for more than half the country's history since it was carved out of British-ruled India in 1947.
In the post-Musharraf era Pakistan faces challenges beyond the constant threat from Islamist militants linked to Al Qaeda and the Taleban.
The new government is grappling with a deteriorating macro-economic situation, and the stock market and rupee have fallen sharply in recent weeks.
PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari, the widower and political successor of the late Benazir Bhutto, has proposed a constitutional package that would strip Musharraf of power, but possibly afford him legal protection from foes who want to see him humiliated.
The PPP hopes to buy time to settle terms for the president's departure and steal the thunder from coalition partner Nawaz Sharif, the prime minister Musharraf overthrew. Sharif wants his usurper impeached or tried for treason.
Officials say Musharraf wants indemnity for his actions on Nov. 3, when he suspended the constitution and imposed emergency rule to purge the judiciary before it could rule illegal his re-election the previous month while still army chief.
Lots of pressure, little support
Some segments of the media have intensified calls for Musharraf to resign, and a lawyers movement that sprang up last year in defence of the judiciary plans a mass protest on June 10, the same day the government is due to present its budget.
Independent analyst Nasim Zehra saw few options left for Musharraf.
‘I think he has no cards left,’ she said. ‘General Musharraf may be compelled to think of resigning sooner rather than later.’
A general election on Feb. 18 swept away Musharraf's parliamentary support and resulted in an uneasy alliance between Zardari and Sharif.
To add to Musharraf's sense of isolation, retired generals, including some who served under him, have publicly criticised him and called for him to go.
Under Kayani the army has adopted a more constitutional role, though it won't want its former chief humiliated.
The United States has told the new government it wouldn't want to see Musharraf dragged through the courts, as he has been a staunch ally and survived several Al Qaeda-inspired assassination attempts.
Beyond that, Washington has given assurances it will not play any role in Pakistan's internal affairs, the adviser to the PPP leadership said.
Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah has asked Sharif to let Musharraf leave peacefully without pressing too hard for him to be put on trial, according to Pakistani officials.
Last November, the Saudi monarch pressured Musharraf into letting Sharif return from exile in the Saudi city of Jeddah.
Before leaving for London on Tuesday, Sharif again called for Musharraf to be put on trial for treason or impeached.
The country has been dogged by political instability since March 2007, when Musharraf galvanised a moribund opposition by starting a fight with the judiciary that resulted in him purging the judges when he imposed emergency rule.
Sharif pulled his ministers out of the PPP-led government last month after Zardari delayed reinstating the judges.

Afghan child, rebels killed in attacks on foreign troops

KABUL - A suicide car bomb exploded near NATO troops in Afghanistan Wednesday, killing a child, as the US military said a dozen rebels were killed in an air strike after they attacked a humanitarian convoy.
The car bomb blew up close to a NATO military convoy around the town of Spin Boldak near the border with Pakistan, border police commander Abdul Raziq told AFP.
‘The troops did not suffer any casualties but a child nearby was killed,’ he said. The boy was aged between eight and 10.
Raziq said the troops were from the Canadian military but the force, based at the nearby city of Kandahar, did not immediately have information about the attack.
It came a day after three NATO soldiers, including a Canadian, died in other attacks in Afghanistan.
The Canadian soldier was shot Tuesday when a foot patrol came under attack from insurgents in Kandahar's volatile Panjwayi district, the military said.
Two other International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) soldiers were killed in a roadside bombing claimed by the Taleban in the eastern province of Paktia.
Their nationalities were not released but most troops in that area are American.
International soldiers were also wounded in an attack Tuesday in the volatile southern province of Helmand, announced the US-led coalition which works alongside ISAF and Afghan security forces.
The troops were on a humanitarian mission near the key centre of Sangin when one of their vehicles struck a mine, the coalition said in a statement. The convoy was then ambushed and another vehicle struck a mine.
‘Insurgents were seen entering homes in an attempt to use them as fighting positions, causing residents to flee,’ the statement said.
‘Coalition forces then ensured that there were no women or children in the area before using precision air strikes against the insurgents,’ it said, adding more than a dozen insurgents were killed.
A spokesman said some troops were injured but they were not US nationals. He could not give details.
British troops have in particular fought hard over the past years for Sangin, in the heart of Afghanistan's opium and heroin production centre.
The international forces are trying to bring in development and aid to win locals over as a means to defeat a Taleban insurgency.
The Taleban were in government in Kabul between 1996 and 200.

US-led troops kill a dozen Taleban in south Afghanistan

KABUL - The US-led coalition troops claim to have killed more than a dozen Taleban insurgents in the southern Afghanistan province of Helmand in response to an attack by the rebels, the military reported Wednesday.
A vehicle carrying humanitarian assistance in a coalition convoy struck a roadside bomb while approaching Putay town in Helmand province and then was ambushed by insurgents using small-arms fire. ‘During the fighting, another coalition vehicle struck a mine,’ said the military in a statement.
Coalition air support was called in after the rebels were seen entering homes. There have been no reports of civilian casualties.
The Taleban, who lost power after the US military invasion of in late 2001, have recently rallied and waged a bloody war against the Afghan government and its military allies.
The militancy so far this year has claimed the lives of more than 1,500 people, mostly insurgents and civilians.

Militants blow up video, music market in Pakistan

MIRANSHAH- Militants blew up two dozen video and music stalls on Wednesday in a Pakistani region on the Afghan border where supporters of Al Qaeda and the Taleban have tried to enforce strict Muslim rule, witnesses said.
No one was hurt in the attack on the market in the northwestern town of Miranshah in the North Waziristan region, part of an ethnic Pashtun tribal belt in northwest Pakistan that has never come under the control of any government.
‘About 25 masked militants came at about 1:30 a.m (1930 GMT) planted explosives and blew up the entire market,’ said Mohammad Sakhi, who runs a workshop next to the market.
The stalls offered pirated Indian and Hollywood films as well as music discs of Pashtun folk music. Some kept more racy movies under the counter, a resident said.
There have been numerous attacks on video and music shops in remote northwestern border regions by Islamists who see all music, film and television as unIslamic.
But the attacks have spread to towns in North West Frontier Province in a process referred to as Talebanisation.
Last year, hardline religious students from a radical mosque even tried to press video shops to close in the capital, Islamabad.
Authorities have largely turned a blind eye to the attacks on markets, and similar attacks on girls' schools, to the dismay of the moderate majority of Pakistanis.
‘I've lost everything. This was my only source of earning for my family,’ said Ahmed Gul, whose shop was destroyed in the blast.
A new government has begun negotiations with the aim of bringing an end to militant violence that has killed hundreds of people since the middle of last year.
But analysts say peace pacts are unlikely to stop the militants' efforts to impose their austere version of Islam.

Obama vows to stop Iran from having nuclear arms

WASHINGTON - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said on Wednesday Iran posed a serious threat in the Middle East and vowed to stop it from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
"The danger from Iran is grave, it is real, and my goal will be to eliminate this threat," Obama said in a speech to a conference of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, a pro-Israel lobby group.
"I will do everything in my power to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, everything in my power to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon - everything," he said to a standing ovation.
Obama also vowed to vigorously support Israel's right to defend itself and pledged an active effort to pursue a Middle East peace agreement in a broad speech on the region he delivered a day after clinching the Democratic presidential nomination.
"I will always stand up for Israel's right to defend itself in the United Nations and around the world," Obama said.
Some of Obama's critics have sought to undercut his support with Jewish voters by suggesting that he would be more inclined than the Bush administration and Republican presidential candidate John McCain to put pressure on Israel to make concessions in any peace negotiations.
Obama has been seeking to dispel that notion in campaign events that include the AIPAC speech and a forum with Jewish voters in Florida last month.
McCain has criticized Obama's call for talks with Iran, a state Israeli leaders consider a threat to Israel's security.
