Tension mounts between Musharraf and PPP

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf was on Friday at odds with the slain ex-premier Benazir Bhutto's widower, who said the day before that his party was facing 'tremendous' public pressure to oust the embattled leader, media reports said.
Asif Ali Zardari, the head of Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party (PPP) that leads country's coalition government, told the Press Trust of India (PTI) that people did not want "reconciliation" with Musharraf.
The people of Pakistan want Musharraf to go. "And I am the servant of the people, not the master of the people," the PPP chairman said in an interview that was released on Thursday, reportedly provoking the embattled president.
"The president has taken a strong note of Mr Zardari's interview and decided to end all backdoor contacts with his party," Geo news channel quoted sources in the president's office as saying.
The unnamed sources said Musharraf was planning a meeting with PPP Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Friday or Saturday to express his reservations over the content of the interview.
PPP spokesman Farhatullah Babar shrugged off Musharraf's objections. "We have no contact with the president on the issue, neither do we want to have any contact with him," he said.
The PPP emerged as the largest party in the February 18 elections, which saw a thrashing defeat of Musharraf's political backers. It formed a coalition government together with the second largest Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz of the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
But unlike other coalition partners, it avoided any direct conflict with Musharraf, who after backdoor contacts granted amnesty to Zardari and his late wife Bhutto over graft charges last year.
Analysts say Zardari tried to return the favour by declining from the restoration of more than 60 judges sacked by Musharraf under an emergency order last year. When reinstated the judges could annul his controversial re-election for the second presidential term.
This put the seven-week-old alliance government at risk. Nine ministers of PML-N resigned from the cabinet on May 13 over the issue, triggering sharp criticism by the public that views the judges as champions of democracy for their defiance towards a former military dictator.
Analysts have also predicted that the PPP could face a major plunge in its popularity and an eventual demise of the country's major liberal force due to its soft approach towards ex-general Musharraf, who took over in a bloodless coup in 1999.
On pressure from the world community following the imposition of emergency on November 3, Musharraf stepped down as military chief and took the role of a civilian president. But Zardari said it was not enough to satisfy the public.
"The president is a relic of the past and he stands somewhere between us and democracy.... He has taken off his uniform thanks to the dialogue by my wife and the world pressure," he was cited as saying by PTI.
"But that does not make him into a democrat or a civilian president. That doesn't mean that his presidency is legal. I've got all these issues. I have a tremendous amount of pressure from the people of Pakistan."
However, once pushed into a tight corner the former military commando, Musharraf, could strike back by dissolving the government and the parliament under the constitutional powers granted to him by the last government of his political allies.
Zaradri's party is reportedly working on a proposal to be put forward in the parliament to cut down these powers, but president intends to resist the constitutional package.
"The president will at no cost accept the curtailment of his powers," Geo news channel cited sources.
A collision between the president and the coalition government could further exacerbate political uncertainty, a bad omen for the South Asian country that is currently troubled by rising Islamic militancy, high inflation and a food shortage.

اسلام آباد ۔ پاکستان تحریک انصاف کے چیئرمین عمران خان نے کہا ہے کہ اے پی ڈی ایم نے عوامی مینڈیٹ تسلیم کیا اور ججوں کی بحالی کیلئے ڈیڈ لائن دینے کی بجائے حکومت کو مکمل وقت دیا ہے۔ نجی ٹی وی کو سوالوں کا جواب دیتے ہوئے۔ تحریک انصاف کے سربراہ عمران خان نے کہا کہ جیل سے رہائی کے بعد انہوں نے خود نواز شریف کو ٹیلی فون پر الیکشن میں حصہ لینے کا کہا لیکن تحریک انصاف کی سینٹرل ایگزیکٹو کمیٹی نے انتخابات میں حصہ لینے کی مخالفت کی۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ بینظیر کی شہادت نہ ہوتی تو جنرل مشرف نے ق لیگ کو جتوا لینا تھا۔عمران خان نے کہا کہ سیاست سے ایجنسیوں کا کردار ختم ہونا چاہئے۔ ان کا کہنا تھا کہ آئی ایس آئی کے پولیٹیکل سیل کے سابق سربراہ میجر جنرل ریٹائرڈ احتشام ضمیر نے انہیں مشرف کا ساتھ دینے کا مشورہ دیتے ہوئے کہا کہ پاکستان میں لوگ صرف چوروں کو ووٹ دیتے ہیں۔ عمران خان نے کہا کہ ملکی دولت لوٹنے والے اپنے جرم کا اعتراف کر لیں تو مفاہمت کا نیا دور شروع ہو سکتا ہے لیکن اس وقت مفاہمت کے نام پر شرمناک کھیل کھیلا جا رہا ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ جنرل مشرف کے مواخذے کی بجائے ان کی اہلیت کو سپریم کورٹ میں چیلنج کیا جانا چاہئے۔ پاکستان تحریک انصاف کے سربراہ نے کہا کہ بارہ مئی کا واقعہ بھول جانا جرم ہو گا۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ عدلیہ آزاد ہوتی تو ذوالفقار علی بھٹو کو پھانسی نہ ہوتی۔

بھارت میں قید ایک اور پاکستانی شہری محمد افضل تشدد سے جاں بحق

اسلام آباد ۔ بھارت میں قید ایک اور پاکستانی محمد افضل تشدد سے جاں بحق ہو گیا ہے ۔ جاں بحق ہونے والے محمد افضل کی عمر 40سال کے درمیان بتائی جاتی ہے۔ نجی ٹی وی کے مطابق وزارت داخلہ کے ذرائع نے بتایا ہے کہ محمد افضل 26اپریل کو امر تسر کے سول ہسپتال میں جاں بحق ہوا وہ دو سال پہلے بھارت گیا اور ویزے کی معیاد ختم ہونے پر اسے گرفتار کرلیاگیا۔ ایک ماہ گزرنے کے باوجود بھارت نے پاکستان کو محمدافضل کی ہلاکت کے بارے میں آگاہ نہیں کیا۔ اس سلسلے میں پاکستانی حکومت نے بھارت میں موجود پاکستانی ہائی کمشنر سے محمد افضل کے گھر کا مکمل پتہ کرنے کو کہاگیا ہے تاکہ محمد افضل کی لاش پاکستان لا کر ورثہ کے حوالے کی جاسکے

امریکہ کی طرف سے ممکنہ حملوں کی منصوبہ بندی ‘ قبائلی علاقوں میں ہونے کا الزام پاکستان کو بلیک میل کرنے کی سازش ہے ۔ پروفیسرخورشید احمد

اسلام آباد۔ جماعتِ اسلامی پاکستان کے نائب امیر سینیٹر پروفیسر خورشید احمد نے اس بات پر شدید تشویش کا اظہار کیا ہے کہ اعلٰی امریکی حکام متعدد مواقع پر اس بات کا اظہار کر چکے ہیں کہ نائن الیون کی طرز پر امریکہ پر اگلے حملے کا مرکز پاکستان کے قبائلی علاقے ہو سکتے ہیں۔ اس ضمن میں تازہ ترین بیان امریکی سنٹرل کمانڈ کے نامزد سربراہ اور سینیئر فوجی جنرل ڈیوڈ پیٹراس نے امریکی سینٹ کی مسلح افواج سے متعلق کمیٹی کے اجلاس میں دیا ہے۔پروفیسر خورشید احمد نے یہاں جاری کردہ اپنے بیان میں کہا ہے کہ تسلسل سے آنے والے اس قسم کے بیانات پاکستان کو بلیک میل کرنے کی ایک سوچی سمجھی کوشش ہے تاکہ موجودہ قیادت کو پرویز مشرف کی غلامانہ پالیسیاں جاری رکھنے پر مجبور کیا جا سکے۔انہوں نے کہا کہ پاکستان کے عوام 18فروری کو اپنا فیصلہ دے چکے ہیںاور دنیا بھر کے مسلمان اور تیسری دنیا کے لوگ عوامی رائے جانچنے کے ہر سروے میں دہشت گردی کے خلاف جنگ کے نام پر جاری امریکی مہم جوئی کے جواز، اس کی قانونی حیثیت اور افادیت کو مسترد کر چکے ہیں۔پروفیسر خورشید احمد نے اس رائے کا اظہار کیا کہ موجودہ حکومت کے پاس واحد راستہ یہی ہے کہ وہ موجودہ پالیسی پر مکمل طور پر نظرِ ثانی کرے اور امریکہ سمیت تمام ممالک سے خوشگوار تعلقات کے قیام کے ساتھ ساتھ خطے میں امریکی مفادات کو آگے بڑھانے کی بجائے ملکی مفاد میں فیصلے کرے۔پروفیسر خورشید احمد نے زور دے کر کہا کہ امریکی قیادت کو بھی اپنی سوچ اور حکمتِ عملی پر نظرِ ثانی کرنی چاہئے اور اس بات کا جائزہ لینا چاہئے کہ افغانستان اور عراق سمیت دنیا بھر میں اس کی پالیسیاں کیوں ناکامی سے دوچار ہو رہی ہیں۔پیچیدہ سیاسی مسائل کو طاقت کے بے رحمانہ استعمال سے حل نہیں کیا جا سکتا۔ان کا کہنا تھا کہ اب وقت آگیا ہے کہ پاکستان محتاط اور محفوظ انداز میں خود کو خطے میں جاری تباہ کن امریکی جنگ سے علیحدہ کر لے ۔صرف اسی صورت میں قبائلی علاقہ جات ایک مرتبہ پھر امن کا گہوارہ بن سکتے ہیں ۔ اس مقصد کا حصول صرف سیاسی مذاکرات، باہمی اعتماد اور اصلاحات کے متفقہ پیکج کے ذریعے ہی ممکن ہے۔اگر امریکہ اور نیٹو کی افواج افغانستان میں ناکامی سے دوچار ہیں تو اس کا ملبہ پاکستان پر نہیں ڈالا جا سکتا۔امریکہ کو چاہئے کہ وہ پاکستان کو بلیک میل کرنے کی بجائے خود اپنی پالیسیوں کا جائزہ لے۔

یکم جون کے بعد کسی بھی سرکاری ادارے کے ذمہ دار کے خلاف کرپشن کی شکایت آئی تو اسے برطرف کردیں گے۔ چوہدری نثار علی خان

راولپنڈی ۔ پاکستان مسلم لیگ(ن) کے مرکزی رہنما و رکن قومی اسمبلی چوہدری نثار علی خان نے ضلع بھر میں کرپشن اور بدعنوانی کے خاتمہ کے لیے محکمہ پولیس ‘ محکمہ مال ‘ صحت ‘ تعلیم ودیگر اداروں کے ذمہ داران کو یکم جون کی ڈیڈ لائن دیتے ہوئے واضح کیا ہے کہ اگر یکم جون کے بعد کسی بھی محکمہ کے افسر یا ملازم کے خلاف کرپشن یا بدعنوانی کی اطلاع ملی تو اسے برطرف کردیا جائے گا۔ انہوں نے دعویُ کیا کہ اگر آئندہ الیکشن ہوئے تو مسلم لیگ(ن) ملک بھر میں کلین سویپ کرے گی ۔ وہ وقت دور نہیں جب چیف جسٹس افتخار چوہدری بحال ہو کر پانی سیٹ پر ہوں گے اور صدر پاکستان پرویز مشرف کٹہرے میں کھڑے ہوں گے ان خیالات کا اظہار انہوں نے ڈھوک سیدان یونین کونسل 87 میں کالج کی تعمیر کا سنگ بنیاد رکھنے کی تقریب کے موقع پر ایک بڑے جلسہ عام سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے کیا ۔ اس موقع پر رکن قومی اسمبلی ملک ابرار‘ صوبائی اسمبلی کے رکن چوہدری سرفراز افضل اور دیگر لیگی راہنما ناظم محمد آصف چوہدری مشتاق ‘اور مشتاق حسین شاہ بھی موجود تھے۔ چوہدری نثار علی خان نے کہا کہ یکم جون سے ضلع بھر میں گداگری کرنے والوں کے خلاف کریک ڈاؤن کے لیے احکامات جاری کردئیے گئے ہیں ۔ مستحق افراد کے لیے رہائش ‘ کھانا ‘ تعلیم ‘ ادویات کی فراہمی کویقینی بنانے کے لیے منصوبہ تیار کرلیا گیا ہے پیشہ ور بھکاریوں کے ٹھیکیداروں کے خلاف سخت کارروائی کی جائے گی ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ مسلم لیگ(ن) اپنے اصولی موقف پر قائم ہے ہمارا مشن ہے کہ عدلیہ بحال ہو اور تمام ججز اپنے عہدوں پر کام کریں ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ عدلیہ بحالی کے لیے ہم نے 15 وزارتوں کو ٹھوکر مار دی ۔ کیونکہ ہماری عوام سے کمٹمنٹ تھی انصاف ہر ایک کے ساتھ برابری کی سطح پر ہو گا۔ خواہ اس نے ہمیں ووٹ دیا ہو یا نہیں انہوں نے کہا کہ سرکاری ملازمین عوامی خادم ہیں ‘ سرمایہ داروں اور جاگیرداروں کے ماتحت سرکاری ملازمین کو چلنے نہیں دیں گے غیر ملکی طاقتیں ملک کی جڑیں کمزور کرنے میں لگی ہیں ہم کسی کو بے گناہ مسلمانوں کا خون بہانے کی اجازت نہیں دے سکتے ۔ مسلم لیگ(ن) سمجھتی ہے کہ میڈیا میں جو کچھ بھی پیش کیا جا رہا ہے حقیقت اس کے برعکس ہے پنجاب حکومت مضبوط ہے ہم اصولوں پر کار بند رہتے ہوئے پیپلزپارٹی کی حکومت کی حمایت جاری رکھیں گے انہوں نے کہا کہ سابق حکمرانوں کی غلط پالیسیوں کے باعث ہمیں مہنگائی بے روزگاری ‘ پٹرول اور خوراک کے بحران ورثے میں ملے ہیں مگر ان کے حل کے لیے بھرپور جدوجہد کریںگے۔ بجلی ‘ آٹا اور دیگر ضروریات زندگی کی اشیاء مہنگی اور ناپید ‘ پٹرولنگ مصنوعات کی قلت ‘سابق حکومت کے سیاہ ترین کارنامے ہیں ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ ایک شخص نے پورے ملک کو داؤ پر لگا رکھا ہے او ر اپنے مفادات حاصل کرنے کے لیے غیر ملکی آقاؤں کو خوش کیا جا رہا ہے ۔ گزشتہ آٹھ سال میں ایک ڈیم بھی نہ بن سکا ۔ جس کی وجہ سے توانائی کا بحران پیدا ہوا ۔ صرف زبانی وعدوں تک کام رہا ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ یہی وترقیاتی فنڈز تھے جو قومی اور صوبائی اسمبلیوں کے تھے۔ جنہیں ناظمین تک پہنچا کر ان سے اپنی مرضی کے فیصلے کروائے گئے ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم لوگ فخر پاکستان ہیں نہ فرزند راولپنڈی ہیں ہم عوامی خادم ہیں اور آپ لوگوں کے ووٹوں کے باعث اسمبلیوں میں پہنچے ہیں ۔ ہر ایک کے ساتھ انصاف کرنا ہمارا فض ہے اور اللہ تعالی کی عدالت میں ہم جوابدہ ہیں ۔ ہم نے جو کام کرنے کا وعدہ کیا وہ کرکے دکھایا ہمارے ترقیاتی کاموں میں نہ کسی نے روڑے اٹکائے نہ کوئی اٹکا سکتا ہے میں نے وعدہ کیا تھا کہ اگر سیٹ چھوڑی تو نواز شریف یہاں سے الیکشن لڑیں گے یہ وعدہ بھی پور ا ہو رہا ہے ۔

ڈالر کی قدر بڑھنے سے ملک پر واجب الادا غیر ملکی قرضوں میں ٤٥٠ ارب روپے کا اضافہ ہو گیا

اسلام آباد۔ ملک میںنئی حکومت کے قیام کے ابتدائی 50 دنوں کے دوران روپے کے مقابلے میں ڈالر کی قدر بڑھنے سے پاکستان پرواجب الادا غیر ملکی قرضوں میں 450 ارب کا اضافہ ہو گیا ہے ۔ حکومتی ذرائع کے مطابق ملک میں مختلف افواہوں ا ور سٹے بازوں کی وجہ سے ر وپے کے مقابلے میں ڈالر کی قیمت تقریبا 60 روپے سے بڑھ کر 70 روپے تک پہنچ گئی ہے ۔ذرائع کا کہنا ہے کہ پاکستان پر غیرملکی قرضے کا حجم 42ارب رپے تھا تاہم حالیہ عرصے کے دوران ایک ڈالر مالیت تک کا بھی غیر ملکی قرضہ حاصل کیے پاکستان پر غیر ملکی قرضوں کے حجم میں 450 ارب روپے اضافہ ہو گیا ہے ذرائع کا کہنا ہے کہ ڈالر کی قدرمیں صرف ایک روپے اضافے سے پاکستان پر 45 ارب روپے کا قرضہ بڑھ جاتا ہے جبکہ حالیہ ڈیڑھ ماہ کے دوران ڈالر کی قیمت 60 سے بڑھ کر70 روپے تک پہنچ چکی ہے جس کی وجہ سے اس کے حجم میں 450ارب روپے کا اضافہ ہو گیا ۔ ذرائع نے مزید بتایا ہے کہ روپے کے مقابلے میںڈالر کی قدر میں اس اچانک اضافے کوروکنے کے لیے اسٹیٹ بنک کو سخت اقدامات اٹھانا ہوںگے کیونکہ روپے کی قدر میں کمی سے جہاں ملک کو افراط زر اور دیگر شعبوں میںمسائل کا سامنا کرنا پڑتا ہے وہاں پرملک پر واجب الادا قرضوں کے حجم میں از خود ہی اضافہ ہو رہا ہے ۔ ذرائع کا کہنا ہے کہ ایسی صورت حال میںا سٹیٹ بنک کی بڑ ی ذمہ د اری بنتی ہے

اسلام آباد ۔ پیپلز پارٹی کے شریک چیئرمین آصف علی زرداری نے کہا ہے کہ ججوں کی بحالی کے حوالے سے آئینی پیکج کا 62نکات پر مشتمل مسودہ تیار کر لیا ہے جو نواز شریف کو بھی بھیجا جائے گا ملک میں ابھی جمہوریت مستحکم نہیں ہوئی وکلاء ہمارے دوست ہیں اور ہماری ہی جنگ لڑ رہے ہیں لیکن ہم ججوں کے معاملے کو سیاسی طریقے سے حل کرنا چاہتے ہیں اس وقت اقتدار میں ،میں یا کوئی اور نہیں بلکہ بے نظیر بھٹو اقتدار میں ہیں ۔ آج سیفما کے زیر اہتمام تقریب سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے انہوں نے کہاکہ ہم میڈیا کو وہی آزادی دیں گے جو محترمہ شہید بے نظیر بھٹو کی خواہش تھی ہم اس ملک میں سی این این اور بی بی سی جیسے ٹی وی چینلز دیکھنا چاہتے ہیں انہوں نے کہاکہ ہم نے بے نظیر بھٹو کی شہادت پر ’’ پاکستان کھپے‘‘ کا نعرہ لگا کر اس ملک کی سالمیت کی حفاظت کی ہے اور اس ملک میں جمہوریت لائے ہیں میں میڈیا کو داد دیتا ہوں اور جمہوریت کے حوالے سے میرا عزم اسی طرح قائم رہے گا۔انہوں نے کہا کہ اس وقت اقتدار میرا یا کسی اور کا نہیں بلکہ شہید محترمہ کا ہے او ران کے نظریات کا ہے انہوں نے کہاکہ میڈیا کے لوگ ہمارے ساتھ اقتدار میں شامل ہیںاو رملک میں جمہوریت لانے میں ہمار امعاون ہیں۔انہوں نے کہاکہ ججوں کی بحالی کے حوالے سے باسٹھ نکا ت پر مشتمل آئینی پیکج کا مسودہ تیا رکر لیا گیا ہے جو نواز شریف کو بھی بھیجاجائے گا اس کے علاوہ کابینہ اور دیگر اتحادیوں کو بھی بھیجیں گے ۔انہوں نے کہاکہ ہم ججوں کے معاملے کو سیاسی طریقے سے بات چیت کے ذریعے حل کرنا چاہتے ہیں پوری دنیا میں جمہوری حکومتیں اس طرح کے مسئلے اسی طرح سے حل کرتی ہیں ۔ آصف علی زرداری نے کہا کہ پیپلزپارٹی پاکستان میں چلنے والی تمام تحریکوںمیں صف اول میں موجود رہی ہے اورہم نے کبھی عوام کو نہیں چھوڑا ہے ہم پاکستان میں جمہوریت کیلئے ماضی میں بھی جدوجہد کی اب بھی کر رہے ہیں اور یہ جدوجہد مستقبل میں بھی جاری رہے گی انہوں نے کہاکہ بھارت سے بہتر تعلقات کے حوالے سے میرے اور میاں نواز شریف کا خیال ہے کہ دونوں ممالک کے درمیان سفری آسانیا ںپیدا کرنے کیلئے ویزا پالیسی کو نرم کیا جائے انہوں نے کہاکہ میں وعدہ کرتا ہوں کہ گندم کی قیمتیں ضرور کم ہوں گی پوری دنیا میں گندم ، تیل کی قیمتوں میں اضافہ ہورہاہے لیکن ہم اس پر قابو پانے میں کامیاب ہو جائیں گے انہوں نے کہاکہ عوام مایوس نہ ہوں ہم اتفاق و اتحاد سے وہ سب کچھ کر سکتے ہیں جو نااتفاقی سے نہیں کیا جا سکتا انہوں نے کہاکہ وکلاء ہمارے دوست ہیں اور دراصل ہماری ہی جنگ لڑ رہے ہیں ہم معزول ججو ںکو ضرور بحال کریں گے اس مقصد کیلئے ہم گزشتہ دو ماہ سے بات چیت کا عمل جاری رکھے ہوئے ہیں انہوں نے کہاکہ پیپلز پارٹی اچھی طرح جانتی ہے کہ جمہوریت کیسے آگے جائے گی میڈیا ہمارا ساتھ دے اور ہمارا سپورٹر بنے ہم جمہوریت کی جنگ لڑتے ہیں

Shah Rukh to stay away from Knight Riders matches

Kolkata: Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan has decided to stay away from Indian Premier League (IPL) matches involving his team Knight Riders until he has a clear understanding of the code of conduct.
Shah Rukh was reportedly peeved after being not allowed to sit in the players' dug-out by ICC Anti-Corruption officials."I am still trying to understand the code of conduct expected of me at the matches of the IPL... ICC etc. After I understand it, I will decide whether to accept it or not. Till such time, I will be with you guys at the hotel, in the meeting but will not come for the matches," Shah Rukh said in a lengthy SMS to the Knight Riders team members.Shah Rukh said his absence from the field had nothing to do with the team's poor performance."Please do not ever feel it is anything to do with us as a team. I am as dedicated to my Knights as I am to my kids. Only, I won't be coming to the class room till the headmasters' rules are understood by me. New Delhi:Bollywood actor Salman Khan, who is to anchor Sony TV's new reality game show “Dus Ka Dum”, has turned a blogger and writes in his first entry that he takes all his decisions on instincts rather than calculations.
“All my decisions are based on my instincts and some people think that I am too moody and cynical," Salman writes in his blog.“Believe me, I have been guided by my instincts and my heart all my life! I do not depend too much on intelligence, analysis and calculations.”Salman, who has often been in the news for wrong reasons, says that earlier he had his own reservations about anchoring a show.“I still remember the day when my brother Sohail Khan brought the proposal to anchor a show for Sony Entertainment Television. I had my reservations. The idea sounded so impractical that I rejected it even without giving it much thought,” he wrote.But then what attracted him to “Dus Ka Dum”?“There is no false shame and sense of humiliation on the show if your answer is wrong. Sample survey has determined the exact answers in form of percentage and the one who answers nearest to the exact answer is the winner. This game is simple. It is a game of guessing.”“Dus Ka Dum” is a game inspired by the US game show “Power of 10”, in which the contestant who predicts most accurately how the public would respond to poll questions walks away with millions.The show begins on Sony Entertainment Television June 6.

Deposed judges to be restored in due course of time :Zardari

ISLAMABAD : Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari said on Friday that deposed judges of superior courts would definitely be restored in due course of time. Speaking as Chief Guest at South Asia Free Media Association (SAFMA) Roundtable Conference on “Media Freedom, Laws and Security” at a local hotel he said “Let us solve the issue politically”.
Moments after its installation, this government released the detained deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry and his family while the lawyers were struggling for months for this purpose, he said adding that legislation would be done soon to reinstate the deposed judges.
Zardari said the draft for constitutional amendment for this purpose was being presented to the Prime Minister today and then it would be handed over to PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif. He hoped that the proposed constitutional package would be approved by the Parliament before the Budget session.
He said that the PPP was fully committed to restore the 1973 Constitution in its original form. “Some friends have advised me to adopt short cut but my legal team does not agree to the idea”,he added.
Asif Zardari stressed that PPP would not let down the people on the issue.
On the issue of media freedom he said that he was committed to media freedom as was Shaheed PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto. He said he was bound by the legacy of history and the future of the party. We are committed to ideals of Benazir Bhutto and the PPP. He said that media community was part of the PPP struggle for democracy and the PPP was the part of media struggle for freedom of expression.
“PPP has always struggled for the restoration of real democracy and it remained in the forefront in the journalists and lawyers struggle”, he said emphatically.
He said that the present government inherited the food crisis and inflation from the previous regime.”People ask me why wheat prices were high, why petroleum prices were high, why their sons were jobless?”.
He promised that prices of wheat and other food items would come down and economy of the country would be managed in a better way but the fact should be kept in mind that only 60 days have passed since the new government came into power.

Clinton insiders mulling exit strategy, talk with Obama

WASHINGTON - Supporters of Hillary Clinton have held informal talks with Barack Obama's campaign over how the former first lady might be able to make a graceful exit from the five-month-old Democratic presidential race, CNN reported Friday.
Both candidates' campaigns strongly denied that any talks have been taking place.
Only three contests remain in the series of state-by-state primaries that have been running since January. Obama is close to clinching the total number of delegates needed to capture the party's nomination.
The campaign contacts revolved in part around whether Obama would offer Clinton the vice-presidential slot, as a form of peace offering to help foster party unity after a bitter campaign, CNN reported.
The New York Times reported that former president Bill Clinton was pushing for a joint ticket to bring the party together and position his wife for another potential White House run for in 2016.
On Thursday CNN reported that Obama had officially begun his search for a running mate. Obama has said he remains focussed on winning the nomination.

PM urges world community to support Pakistan in war on terror

ISLAMABAD : Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Friday urged the world community to support Pakistan’s efforts in the war on terror. Addressing the soft launch of International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2008, the Prime Minister reminded the world community that it was the feeling of injustice, deprivation and lack of opportunities that spawn terrorism.
“The world community needs to pay more attention to eliminate these problems,” he said while expressing Pakistan’s firm resolve in fighting terrorism and extremism in all its forms and manifestations.
“We would like the international community to support our efforts as our government evolves a strategy that has better chances to bring peace.”
The first defence exhibition known as IDEAS was held in 2002 and attracted a large number of buyers from various countries.
The IDEAS 2008 will be held at Karachi Expo Centre from between November 24-28 and is expected to be attended by defence ministers, heads of armed forces, foreign exhibitors and trade visitors.
Prime Minister Gilani lauded the phenomenal progress Pakistan has made towards developing indigenous capabilities for producing sophisticated weapons system and equipment.
Prime Minister Gilani highlighted Pakistan’s geo-strategic location and said the country is a frontline state in present global security environment.
“We are spear-heading a collective struggle against a new threat to world peace,” he said referring to the menace of terrorism that has posed the biggest challenge to the world.
Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Tariq Majeed and Vice Chief of Air Staff were also present at the launch ceremony.
However, the Prime Minister said that while terrorism posed a serious threat to international peace, it was also detrimental to Pakistan’s vital national interest.
“War against terrorism is our own war. We have lost our great leader Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed. We have lost countless innocent children and youth, men and women.”
He praised Pakistani people for supporting the government in fight against the twin menace of terrorism and extremism.
While fighting extremism and terrorism, the prime minister stressed the need to address the root causes together with only a selective and judicious use of force.
On Pakistan’s efforts to boost its indigenous defence capabilities, Prime Minister Gilani said the IDEAS provides and excellent opportunity to highlight the potential of Pakistan as the regional hub for production.
He said the forum is also instrumental in improvement of products, working of defence industry and more importantly seeking affordable solutions to prevent war through conventional balance.
Prime Minister Gilani said Pakistan is a peaceful country and does not harbour aggressive designs against anyone.
“However, we believe that peace is achieved through strength not weakness,” he said and stressed the need to maintain conventional forces suitability backed by credible minimum deterrence.
He said Pakistan being a responsible nuclear state adheres to the doctrine of minimum credible deterrence to ensure peace in the region.
The Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction that the country’s defence industry has been successfully meeting domestic requirements, and is now geared up to export its world class products on competitive basis through responsible arms trade.
He said IDEAS was a reflection of Pakistan’s consistent efforts to stimulate defence production through collaboration and joint ventures.
Paying tributes to the Pakistan’s armed forces, the Prime Minister said they were known for their professionalism the world over.
He said their contribution to the UN’s peace keeping efforts was tangible and their performance around the world was a clear manifestation of devotion to duty.

Kaira terms IT pre-requisite for efficient governance

ISLAMABAD : The permeation of Information Technology in government functionaries has become a pre-requisite to ensure efficient, effective and transparent governance and deliver public services quickly, Incharge Minister of Information and Technology Qamar Zaman Kaira said. Addressing during Special Ministerial Roundtable Conference; organized by the Asia Pacific e-Government Forum, in Kuala Lumpur the Minister underscored need for use of IT by the developing countries including Pakistan for dissemination of vital information and services to the public without human interface.
“Pakistani government has emphasized the use of internet for dissemination of information and services to the people which has helped in creating transparency in the work processes—a fundamental ingredient for good governance,” Kaira said.
The e-government forum was also attended by Malaysian deputy minister for water and communication, minister for transport and communication of Maldives, Afghan minister for communication and information technology, and representative of regional and international IT institutions.
During his stay in Malaysia, the minister also visited the High Commission for Pakistan in Malaysia and called on High Commissioner Lt. General (Rtd) Tahir Mahmmud Qazi.
They discussed options to improve bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Malaysia particularly in field of the information technology.

Land revenue record all over country to be computerized: Rehman Malik

LAHORE: Land revenue record all over the country would be computerized to ensure transparency, remove public grievances and to bring the country at par with the systems of developed countries like USA and Japan. This was stated by Advisor to Prime Minister for Interior Mr. Rehman Malik while inaugurating NADRA’s ‘e-Sahulat’ project here on Friday.
He said that the computerization data of criminals and health record would also be maintained to overcome flaws of the system.
“Government is striving to provide maximum self employment and business opportunities to enterprising youth of the country and projects like ‘e-Sahulat’ will be a big leap forward in this direction.
He urged the public and private sector organizations to come up with bright ideas like e-Sahulat by NADRA which would definitely help in eradicating poverty and unemployment from the country which are the root causes of all social evils.
While handing over the licenses to around 1200 franchisees of Lahore, Islamabad and Multan regions for first phase of the project, Rehman Malik said that one of the top priorities of the present democratic government is to facilitate the masses using the latest technology.
He promised that present democratic government would keep on bringing innovative ideas to serve the citizens of this country and to contribute towards the uplift of society.
While praising the efforts of NADRA towards the implementation of concept of e-governance he said that NADRA has emerged as one of the largest IT organizations of country.
He said that people had to wait in long queue for hours and hours earlier just to pay their utility bills but now NADRA has brought them the latest technological facilities at their disposal and they can pay their bills conveniently with dignity at the time of their choice using their CNICs.
Rehman Malik further added that with the projects like VITS, KIOS, VERISYS, etc., NADRA is playing a note-worthy role towards the implementation of E-Governance concept in Pakistan and with the introduction of E-Sahulat project, NADRA is moving forward towards accomplishment of its goal which will also help the Government to reduce unemployment rate in the country.
Rehman Malik directed NADRA management to reduce fee for Sahulat project from Rs 25,000 to Rs 20000 and also announced Rs 50,000 award for the NADRA franchises who would show better performance.
While briefing about the e-Sahulat project, Chairman NADRA, Brig ® Saleem Ahmed Moeen said that it was the remarkable popularity of Kiosk project and directions from the Advisor for Interior Rehman Malik which motivated NADRA to launch another vibrant project e-Sahulat. The franchise of e-Sahulat is being offered to motivate and energetic business persons on a prepaid basis.
He said that so far 8 million bills, worth Rs. 6.7 billion have been submitted under NADRA’s Kiosk project which is a testimony of public confidence in NADRA.
He told that NADRA had received as many as 4,403 applications across Pakistan and in the first phase 1,200 franchise licenses have been issued.
He said that NADRA e-Sahulat is particularly designed for low income areas to bring faster market access through an established channel by offering technology and business opportunities in rural areas as well as in cities. NADRA e-Sahulat will enable all concerned to operate as a “Franchisee and provide services through their own personal computers. Chairman NADRA said that e-Sahulat scheme provides a single platform for each citizen enabling use of multiple services through CNIC. The biggest advantage of e-Sahulat is its 24/7 availability. Under the scheme, franchises will collect utility bills, dispense pins for scratch cards (mobile phones, calling cards) and will also be able to carry online verification (VERISYS).

Chairman Senate Committee on Interior addresses the press

KARACHI : Chairman Senate Standing for Interior, Senator Talha Mehmood Ahmed has alleged that foreign agencies are fully involved in disturbing the law and order in Pakistan. “The information available with us establishes their full involvement in disturbing law and order, bomb blasts etc.”, he said while addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club here Friday after two days of meetings with Police, Rangers and Coastguards.
He said that these agencies are using our people for their nefarious plans.
He said there is need for having a crash program to deal with the situation through well conceived planning and programming so that people are provided security of life and property and their problems are solved.
The Senator said that all the agencies working in the country should function within their prescribed parameters.
Quoting one example, he said, that Coastguards are meant to keep watch at the coast, but instead they have come on the roads.
He referred to setting up of Coastguards check post at Uthal and said people of both Sindh and Balochistan are facing lot of problems because of this check post where men, women and children coming from and going to Balochistan have to wait for hours for their physical search and of their vehicles.
Senator Talha referred to his meetings with the Rangers on Thursday and said that if this Force is to be deployed here on permanent basis, then the government should provide them accommodation to be owned by them because at present they are putting up in various buildings.
He said that both the police and Rangers need to be equipped properly and provided with required equipment and vehicles.
He pointed out that Karachi is country’s most important city which is faced with problems like unemployment and provision of security to the life and property of citizens.
The Senator said that there is need for these two forces to have strong intelligence networks.
With reference to the committee’s briefing at Police Head Office, Talha Mahmood observed that police have failed to maintain law and order and a major evidence to this fact is that recently people burnt three dacoits alive showing that people have lost their trust in the police and now they take law in their own hands.
He said that in order to have public confidence revived in the police, this department will have to set right its affairs.
Senator Talha Mahmood informed that some time back a gang of dacoits was arrested and one of its members was a sitting Inspector of Police who was arrested previously also but was let off after he paid Rs 7 lac.
“We are ourselves promoting corruption”, he said and elaborated that when motorcycle mobile cops would be provided 1.5 liters of fuel and police mobile 3.5 liters for 24 hours, they will have no other option to meet their requirements from the public.
Replying a question, he said, that Police are procuring Hepatitis vaccine for the force to protect the cops from growing cases of the fatal disease.
He said the IGP has assured that he would make every endeavor to set the things right.
Talha Mahmood said that police here needs to be given package that of Motorway Police. He said they will certainly show performance if made to work for 8 hours with a weekly day off, provided health and education facilities, honourable living conditions and equipped properly.
He was more critical of Coastguards and said their intelligence network was total failure.
The Senator said that Rangers, Police and Coastguards needs to be strengthened with man power. He suggested that recruitment for them should be made from local population and for this purpose quota of Sindh and Baluchistan should be increased which is at present 22 percent for Sindh and 6 percent for Balochistan.
As regards complaints against Uthal Check Post of Coastguards, Chairman Standing Committee said he has sought a report from the Force within 15 days as to how to manage this post which may help solve problems of people.
He said if Coastguards fails to make it a point, the Committee will recommend that this checkpost should be dispensed with. At the outset of his press conference, Senator Talha Mahmood said that he became a member of the Senate two years back and since then his committee has done lot more than 30 other Senate Committees and added that this committee has visited places which were never visited for the last 60 years.
Chairman Standing Committee for Interior said that it is an achievement of this committee that for the first time an effective action is being taken against illegal SIMs.
He said out of about 90 million SIMs, NADRA has so far verified over 45 million SIMs and has informed that there is no record of seven million SIMs.
He said that illegality in this business can be judged from just one example whereby, when an accused was arrested, 11000 SIMs obtained on just one identity card were recovered from him.
He said it was this committee which discovered a fraud of 70-80 billion rupees in CDA and proved that allotments of some 3.94 lac plots were made wrongly.
“Our all out effort is that whatever we could do within our assigned parameters do it as far as humanly possible”, Senator Talha said.

Nawaz Sharif holds previous govt responsible for present circumstances

ISLAMABAD : Quaid Pakistan Muslim League (N) Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Friday said that negative propaganda was underway against the newly elected government and anti-democratic elements were active in building pressure against them. Talking exclusively to a private news channel he said that prevailing circumstances are the result of previous government’s immature and unsuccessful policies.
Nawaz Sharif said he had been conveying this message to Asif Ali Zardari that the fortune had given them a golden chance to curtail the powers of Presidency and luck never favours a person for life time, so they should encash this opportunity.
He criticised PML-Q President Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain who always seeks a congenial atmosphere to join the government but expressed the resolve that PPP and PML-N would net let negative elements come into power.
Quaid PML-N said they would play their due role for the restoration of judiciary and democracy in the country.

Lawyer community not taken into confidence over constitutional package: Aitzaz

ISLAMABAD : President of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan said Friday that the lawyer community was not taken into confidence over the proposed constitutional package. He was talking to media after participating in the meeting of implementation committee constituted by the Pakistan Bar Council for the planned long march by lawyers.
Aitzaz Ahsan said the lawyer community will give its opinion over the package when its contents were known and “we reserve the right to accept or reject it.”
He said processions from Sindh and Balochistan would arrive in Multan on March 10 afor a long march that would start from there the next day and later reach Lahore via Sahiwal and Okara.
Deposed judges, retired judges and lawyer leaders will address District Bar Associations of Sahiwal and Okara.
From Lahore the participants of the long march would leave for the Parliament House in Islamabad by road and processions of lawyer community and civil society beside other segments of the society from NWFP and Azad Kashmir would also the caravan, The SCBA president said.
Regarding visit of deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Cahudhry to Faisalabad on May 24, Aitzaz Ahsan said that participants of that the caravan of Justice Chuadhry would leave from his residence for Faisalabad the same day. The procession will reach Faisalabad via Pindi Bhatian through motorway and Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will not address to any bar en route to Faisalabad, he said.
lawyers, political workers, students and others would receive the procession of Justice Chaudhry in Faisalabad, he said.
Vice Chairman of the Pakistan Bar Council Haji Syed Rehman said the deposed CJ would also visit Peshawar on May 31. The implementation committee constituted a number of sub-committees for organizing the long march.
Members of the committee including Ali Ahmed Kurd, Rasheed A Rizvi, Hamid Khan and Latif Khan Afridi participated in the meeting held in the library of the Pakistan Bar Council.

President House made no direct contact with PPP on Zardari’s interview: Babar

ISLAMABAD : Spokesman Pakistan Peoples Party Farhatullah Babar Friday said that no direct approach has been made by the President House to seek details of Asif Ali Zardari’s interview to a foreign media organization. In a telephonic interview to a private television channel the PPP Spokesman said, “We have no reaction from the President but have learnt through media reports that the President House has sought details of Asif Ali Zardari’s interview”.

He said the President House cannot ask for details from PPP directly because neither PPP is in contact with them nor it wants to do so.
If they want to get details of the interview as it has been reported in the media they can scrutinize the newspapers which carry the details, he said.
To a question he said the PPP has no working relationship with the President House adding the relationship is rather between the President House and the PPP led coalition government in line with the constitution. To another question he said that news regarding Prime Minister-President meeting was actually floated by sources in President House without disclosing their identity so the details in this regard can be sought from the same source. He said the Prime Minister House has no knowledge about the meeting, its timing and venue.
The desire for such a meeting according to media reports appears to be from the President House so they can better elaborate this he added.

Free media cornerstone of democracy: Sherry Rehman

ISLAMABAD : Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sherry Rehman Friday said free media is the cornerstone of democracy and the present PPP-led government fully adheres to this principle. Pakistan Peoples Party has paid a huge price in terms of giving sacrifices for the cause of democracy and freedom of media in the country, she said while addressing the concluding session of a round table conference organized by the South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA) on “Media Freedom, Laws and Security” here.
The Minister said media criticism is a blessing and every democratic government fully takes advantage of the criticism for improving its performance.
She said after the new government came to power, the first step it took was to do away with black PEMRA laws hindering the freedom of media in the country.
“We would also bring more legislation with the sole aim to facilitate media and provide them an environment where media could flourish. We need to decolonize information and what we need from my friends is collaboration and cooperation as the government is really going to launch a new agenda that has never been done in the past,” she added.

سرگودھا ۔ تھانہ اربن ایریا کے علاقہ میں چوری کے شبہ میں فیکٹری مالکان نے نوعمر لڑکے کو تیل چھڑک کر زندہ جلادیا۔ عدالت کے حکم پر پولیس نے 38روز بعد ملزمان کے خلاف مقدمہ درج کرلیا۔ بتایا گیا ہے کہ تھانہ اربن ایریا کے علاقہ میں واقع سوئچ فیکٹری مالکان مرزا سعید اور آفتاب شکور نے چوری کے الزام میں 12سالہ قیصر کو تشدد کا نشانہ بناتے ہوئے مٹی کا تیل چھڑک کر اسے زندہ جلادیا اور زخمی حالت میں گلی میں پھینک دیا۔ اسے ہسپتال لے جایا گیا مگر وہ زخموں کی تاب نہ لاتے ہوئے دم توڑ گیا۔ بااثر فیکٹری مالکان نے پولیس سے سازباز کرکے قتل کے واقعہ کو اتفاقیہ حادثہ قرار دلوا کر نعش زبردستی دفن کرادی جس پر ورثاء نے ایڈیشنل ڈسٹرکٹ اینڈ سیشن جج سرگودھا ظفر عباس سبزواری کو درخواست دی۔ عدالت کے حکم پر پولیس تھانہ اربن ایریا نے فیکٹری مالکان کے خلاف قتل کا مقدمہ درج کرکے ان کی گرفتاری کیلئے کارووائی شروع کردی ہے

ڈاکٹر عبدالقدیر خان کے کراچی جانے کا امکان

اسلام آباد۔ حکومت نے نامور ایٹمی سائنس دان ڈاکٹر عبدالقدیر خان کو بھائی کی عیادت کے لیے کراچی جانے کی اجازت دیدی ہے ۔ اور توقع ہے کہ وہ اگلے دو دن میں کراچی روانہ ہوجائیں گے ۔ ایک نجی ٹی وی نے ذرائع کے حوالے سے خبر دی ہے کہ ڈاکٹر عبدالقدیر خان کو اپنے بھائی عبدالقیوم جو دل کے عارضے میں مبتلا ہیں کی عیادت کے لیے کراچی جانے کی اجازت مل گئی ہے ۔ 2004 ء کے بعد سے پہلی مرتبہ ان کو اپنے کسی عزیز سے ملنے کی اجازت ملی ہے اور ڈاکٹر عبدالقدیر خان ایک دو روز میں کراچی جائیں گے۔

ججوں کی بحالی کے لیے آئینی پیکج ١٠ جون سے پہلے پارلیمنٹ میں پیش کر دیا جائے گا ، یوسف رضاگیلانی

اسلام آباد ۔ وزیراعظم یوسف رضا گیلانی نے کہاہے کہ ججوں کی بحالی کے لیے آئینی پیکج 10 جون سے پہلے پارلیمنٹ میں پیش کر دیا جائے گا ۔ ایک نجی ٹی وی سے گفتگو کرتے ہوئے وزیر اعظم نے کہاکہ صدر پرویز مشرف کی جانب سے جمہوریت کی حمایت کرنے کی بات خوش آئند ہے ۔ انہوں نے کہاکہ دہشت گردی کے خلاف جنگ میں سابق حکومت کی پالیسیوں کو تبدیل کر دیاگیا ہے تاہم دہشت گردوں سے معاہدے نہیں کئے جائیں گے۔ وزیراعظم نے کہا کہ وہ صدر مشرف کی اس بات سے اتفاق رکھتے ہیں کہ پاکستان میں حکومت کرنا مشکل کام ہے ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ صدر سے اچھے تعلقات ہیں ا ن سے خلوص سے ملاقات کروں گا صدر کے حوالے سے کوئی دباؤ نہیں ہے وزیراعظم یوسف رضا گیلانی نے کہا کہ اس وقت ملک کو متعدد مسائل کا سامنا ہے ۔ ووٹ لینے کے بعد سابق حکومت پر الزام تراشی کا کوئی جواز نہیں ہے ا نہوں نے کہا کہ ججز کی بحالی کی تحریک اعتزاز احسن کی نہیں وکلاء اور پیپلزپارٹی کی ہے ججز کی بحالی کے بعد مسلم لیگ(ن) کے وزراء دوبارہ کابینہ میںآ جائیں گے معزول چیف جسٹس کے لیے جیل اور تھانوں میں گیا معاملہ عدالت میں ہے اس لیے ان سے نہیں ملوں گا۔ وزیراعظم نے ایک سوال کے جواب میں کہا کہ وزیراعظم بننے کے بعد ان کی خاندانی زندگی متاثر ہوئی ہے ۔ حکومت کے پہلے سو دنوں کے بارے میں انہوں نے کہا کہ پہلے سو دنوں کے پروگرام پر جنگی بنیادوں پر کام جاری ہے انہوں نے کہا کہ مری روڈ کو بے نظیر بھٹو شہید کے نام سے منسوب کرنے کی تجویز ہے ۔

لاہور۔ پاکستان پیپلز پارٹی کے سیکرٹری جنرل جہانگیر بدر نے کہا ہے کہ پیپلز پارٹی آمر کی دست بازو(ق) لیگ کوحکومت میں شامل کرنے کا سوچ بھی نہیں سکتی۔ قومی ہیرو ڈاکٹر عبدالقدیر خان کو کچھ سہولتیں ملی ہیں عوام مستقبل میں اور بھی بہت کچھ دیکھیں گے۔ صحافیوں سے گفتگو رکرتے ہوئے انہوں نے کہا کہ مسلم لیگ (ق) جنرل (ر) پرویز مشرف کا دست وبازو ہے۔ آمر کی گود میں بیٹھنے والی جماعت سے پیپلز پارٹی کس طرح حکومتی اتحاد کرسکتی ہے۔ پیپلز پارٹی ڈکٹیٹر شپ کو قبول نہیںکرے گی۔ ملک میں اس وقت ٹرانزٹ دور چل رہا ہے۔ ڈکٹیٹر کو بالآخر جانا ہے۔ ہماری بدقسمتی ہے کہ جب بھی کوئی آمر آیا اس نے آئین میں ترامیم کیں جنہیں عدالتوں نے اور کچھ سیاسی جماعتوں نے بھی قبول کیا۔ انہوں نے کہاکہ ڈاکٹر عبدالقدیر خان کو کچھ سہولتیں ملی ہیں جس سے عوام کو حکومت کی نیت کا اندازہ ہوجانا چاہئے۔ انہوں نے کہاکہ اقتدار کے کچھ ہفتوں بعد ہی ڈاکٹر قدیر کیلئے نرمیاں پیدا کردی گئی ہیں۔ انہوں نے کہاکہ حکومت مہنگائی پر قابو نہیں پاسکی جس کی وجہ عالمی منڈی میں تیل کی قیمت میں زبردست اضافہ ہے ۔ جیسے ہی ججوں کا معاملہ حل ہوگا اور حکومت کو کچھ استحکام ملے گا عوام کو ریلیف دیا جائے گا۔ انہوں نے کہاکہ آصف علی زرداری نے ذمہ داری ملنے پر بہترین صلاحیتوں کا مظاہرہ کیا ہے۔ انہوں نے کہاکہ مسلم لیگ (ن) آج بھی ہماری اتحادی ہے اور توقع ہے کہ وہ جلد وفاقی کابینہ میں بھی واپس آجائے گی۔ایک اور سوال کے جواب میں انہوں نے کہاکہ مسلم لیگ (ق) آٹھ سال تک آمر کی گود میں بیٹھی رہی اور اسے 2050ء تک باوردی صدر منتخب کرنے کے دعوے کرتی رہی ہے۔ حقیقت میں (ق) لیگ کسی سیاسی جماعت کا نام نہیں بلکہ یہ آمریت کے مسافروں اور مختلف جماعتوں سے بھاگے ہوئے لوگوں پر مشتمل گروہ ہے۔ اس سوال پر کہ مسلم لیگ (ق) کے بغیر مجوزہ آئینی پیکج کو سینٹ میں کس طرح منظور کروایا جائے گا جہانگیر بدر نے کہا کہ نیلوفر بختیار اور دیگر سینیٹرز نے پہلے ہی وہاں فارورڈ بلاک بنا رکھا ہے ۔ جب آئینی پیکج پیش ہوگا تو بہت سے لوگ فارورڈ بلاک کی شکل میں بھی اس کی حمایت کرسکتے ہیں کیونکہ (ق) لیگ میں لوگوں کو ڈر، خوف اور لالچ کے ذریعے شامل کیا گیا تھا۔ صدر کے مواخذے سے متعلق انہوں نے کہا کہ آئینی پیکج کی منظوری کے بعد آہستہ آہستہ مواخذہ کی نوبت بھی ضرور آئے گی۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ آئینی پیکج کی تیاری کے بعد اسے اتحادی جماعتوں کے سامنے پیش کرنے کے بعد پھر متفقہ طور پر پارلیمنٹ میں لائیں گے کیونکہ ججوں کی بحالی کے مسئلے کے باعث ملک میں ڈیڈ لاک پیدا ہوچکا ہے ۔ اسے حل کرنے کے بعد مہنگائی اور دیگر مسائل کے حل پر بھی توجہ دی جائے گی۔

صدر کے تحفظات سے پچھلا دور یاد آ رہاہے ، جب تک سازشی عناصر موجود ہیں ملک میں استحکام نہیں آئے گا ، نواز شریف

لاہور ۔ مسلم لیگ ( ن ) کے سربراہ میاں نواز شریف نے کہاہے کہ صدر کے تحفظات سے انہیں وہ پچھلا دور یاد آ رہاہے جب صدر وزیر اعظم کو برطرف کرنے اور اسمبلی توڑنے کے لیے گراؤنڈ تیار کیا کرتا تھا ۔ ان خیالات کا اظہار انہوںنے یہاں ایک نجی ٹی وی سے گفتگو کرتے ہوئے کیا ۔ نواز شریف نے کہاکہ جس طرح صدر نے موجودہ حکومت کے بارے میں تحفظات کا اظہار کیاہے اس سے پچھلا دور یاد آ رہا ہے کہ کس طرح ایک خاص مقصد کے لیے کام شروع کیا جاتا ہے اور کس طرح وزیر اعظم سے نجات اور اسمبلی توڑنے کے لیے راہ ہموار کی جاتی ہے۔ انہوں نے کہاکہ جب تک پرویز مشرف کے پاس موجودہ اختیارات ہوں گے اور پارلیمنٹ بے اختیار ہو گی۔ تو پہلا کام وہ وہی کریں گے جو صدر پرویز مشرف شروع کرنے جارہے ہیں ۔ نواز شریف نے کہاکہ حکومت کو آئے جمعہ جمعہ آٹھ دن ہوئے ہیں لیکن اس پر تحفظات ظاہر کئے جارہے ہیں اور جو کچھ کیا جارہاہے وہ گزشتہ آٹھ سالہ پالیسی کا تسلسل ہے۔ انہوں نے کہاکہ انہوں نے آصف علی زرداری سے کہا ہے کہ مواقع سے فائدہ اٹھانا چاہیے ورنہ حالات سازت ہوں یا نہ ہوں آمران سے فائدہ اٹھانے کی تاک میں ہوتا ہے ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ جب تک سازشی عناصر موجود ہیں ملک میں استحکام نہیں آئے گا۔ چوہدری شجاعت حسین کے بارے میں انہوں نے کہا کہ چوہدری شجاعت حسین موقع کی تلاش میں ہیں وہ گھسنے کو تیار ہیں چاہے پیپلز پارٹی کو ان کی ضرورت ہو یا نہ ہو ۔ آئینی پیکج کے بارے میں انہوںنے کہاکہ جب یہ پیکج سامنے آئے گا اس وقت اس پر کچھ کہا جاسکے گا۔

Batch of 200 Pakistani troops leaves for Liberia

LAHORE : A batch of 200 Pakistani troops left here Friday on UN mission for restoration of peace in war ravaged Liberia. Brigadier Muhammad Imran Zafar bade farewell to troops at the Allama Iqbal International Airport, said ISPR sources.
Speaking on the occasion, Brigadier Muhammad Imran Zafar said that the performance of Pakistani troops under various UN peacekeeping missions abroad has earned them worldwide recognition. He said their professionalism and dedication serves as a role model to be emulated by other UN military components. He urged the troops to perform their duties diligently so as to maintain the hard earned image.
Liberia a small country located at the top of western coast of Africa next to Sierra Leone and Ivory Coast became a republic in 1847. The Liberian economy depends mainly on export of natural resources. The decades of genocide and civil strife between different ethnic groups for the control of these natural resources has virtually damaged the country’s infrastructure. Liberia’s stability is vital to its neighbouring countries, who have witnessed turbulence as a result of the fallout of continued violence.
It may be mentioned that Pakistan Army peacekeeping contingents have rendered dedicated services in neighbouring Sierra Leone and Ivory Coast by playing a major role in stabilising the volatile situation in these war ravaged countries. They ensured security, facilitated repatriation of refugees and restored writ of the democratically elected government through smooth transition.

PM orders dispatch of 21,000 tents to China

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Friday ordered immediate dispatch of 21,000 tents to China as relief for the affected people of the earthquake. About 1,000 tents have already been airlifted and the remaining 20,000 are in the process of being dispatched, a government spokesperson said.
Four planeloads of relief goods containing medicines, mineral water, blankets and mats will also be sent to China, while two planeloads of relief goods were dispatched to China last week.
The Prime Minister has also directed the Foreign Office to stay in close touch with the Chinese government so that Pakistan could immediately cater to the specific needs of the quake affected people in China.

Pakistan adopts three point strategy to address militancy, terrorism: FM

ISLAMABAD : Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi Friday said Pakistan has adopted a three point comprehensive strategy to address militancy and terrorism that includes political, socio-economic and military options. Talking to state newsagency APP on the issue of political negotiations in FATA, the Foreign Minister said, “Government of Pakistan has a comprehensive strategy to address militancy and terrorism and our strategy has three broad elements: political, socio-economic and military.”
The Foreign Minister said, “We believe that military action alone will not be effective in permanently ending the phenomenon of terrorism.”
He said, “We are reaching out to the tribal leaders and notables as part of the political element of our overall strategy in fight against terrorism.”
The political engagement is possible only with those who renounce militancy and violence; don’t allow the use of Pakistan’s territory against any other country; and do not help foreign terrorist elements to find hideouts in Pakistan’s territory, he added.
The Foreign Minister underlined that as opposed to the past, the Government is negotiating from the position of strength.
“A strong implementation mechanism is part of these negotiations and peace in FATA will ensure access to the Government to engage in socio-economic development of the area,” he added.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi said, “History suggests that use of force alone can lead to self perpetuating violence. However, the determination to use force, wherever required, remains an important element of our strategy.”
He said, “We firmly believe that our focused and determined efforts, which have a combination of political, socio-economic and military elements, will lead to permanent end to militancy.”

Nawaz, Shahbaz nomination papers challenged

ISLAMABAD : Muslim League-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif’s nomination papers from the constituencies Lahore NA-123 and Rawalpindi NA-52 besides Mian Shahbaz Sharif’s from PP-10 have been challenged in the election tribunal of Lahore High Court (LHC).
The opponents from the respective constituencies have filed petitions against the approval of Mian brothers’ nomination papers in LHC election tribunal, private news channel Geo reported.
Mian Akhlaque Guddu and Noor Ellahi contesting from NA-123 against Nawaz Sharif in their filed petitions took the plea that Mian Nawaz Sharif was a convict in THE plane hijacking case and helicopter case and he had got his imprisonment remitted, while the conviction for ineligibility also stands good.
The petitioners further said that the Returning Officer, despite having seen the decisions in both the cases, permitted Nawaz Sharif to contest election and approved his nomination papers.
Therefore, the petitioners prayed for annulling the decision of the Returning Officer.
It is also learnt that Nawaz Sharif’s nomination papers from Rawalpindi NA-52 and Shahbaz Sharif’s from PP-10 have also been challenged. Shahbaz Sharif’s opponent has leveled allegations of his concealing assets besides being involved in several cases.

Budget proposals of FPCCI will be given due importance: Wattoo

LAHORE : Advisor to Prime Minister on Commerce and Production Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo has said that all pre-budget proposals sent by Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) will be given importance in the forthcoming national budget for the next fiscal year. Talking to a high level delegation of trade leaders led by Iftikhar Ali Malik Friday at Islamabad, he assured that government attached great importance to the business community and all its sound proposals would be considered and given due weightage at all levels.
Wattoo said soon after assuming the portfolio of both ministries he had directed the concerned federal ministries to incorporate the feasible proposals put forth by the federation. “Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani had also assured that all efforts would be made to facilitate the traders, especially exporters including foreign and local investors”.
During the meeting, Iftikhar Malik informed the Advisor that federation’s President Tanvir Ahmad Sheikh, after collecting budget proposals from affiliated chambers, had sent those to the federal government.
Wattoo said that government would take business leaders into confidence before framing any trade related policy to make it more feasible and viable.
He said that all officials of the ministries were clearly directed to help redress the genuine grievances of the chambers and traders on top priority,or else strict action would be taken against them.
He said Prime Minister will go through the proposals given by the federation to accelerate the pace of development and provide impetus to the industrial sector.
It may be mentioned here that Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo has accepted the invitation of Iftikhar Ali Malik for visiting the federation at Karachi and its zonal office at Lahore in connection with the budget proposals.

FPCCI delegation holds pre-budget meeting with Finance minister

ISLAMABAD : Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), delegation led by its President, Tanvir Ahmad Sheikh held a pre-Budget Consultative Meeting with Syed Naveed Qamar, Minister for Finance here Friday and discussed with him matters relating to forthcoming budget-2008-2009 in the backdrop of current economic situation and developments in the country.
According to a statement of the Finance Ministry issued here today, the FPCCI participants discussed with Finance Minister matters relating to forthcoming budget-2008- 2009.
The delegates reposed full trust in the economic management team of Ministry of Finance led by the incumbent Minister and assured all out support to the Ministry.
FPCCI President presented his part of pre-Budget proposals to the Minister focusing social and industrial sector development, besides measures offering relief to the common man against existing price hike and other economic pressures resulting from spiraling fuel prices.
The Government needs to broaden tax base for adequate resource mobilization, besides encouraging agro-based industry to meet domestic food production needs, FPCCI suggested during the meeting.
Power generation sector also merits GoP’s special fiscal support, FPCCI added. The Government , they said may chalk out special financial support package for skill development of unskilled working class in the country in order to maximize industrial production, focusing domestic needs and increased exports to strengthen foreign exchange reserves, it was stressed. Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, Governor SBP and Ms. Hina Rabbani Khar, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Finance were also present in the meeting. The Finance Minister assured that all fiscal proposals of FPCCI aiming to make present democratic government’s first budget a success shall be considered seriously by the Ministry’s Budget Team.
