Restoration of judges as per Bhurban Declaration

DUBAI — The restoration of judges sacked by President Pervez Musharraf on November 3 last year will be done through a resolution of parliament as per the Bhurban Declaration, according to Nawaz Sharif, leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-N.
Talking to reporters after the conclusion of two-day talks with PPP Co-chairman Asif Zardari, the former prime minister said he would make an announcement on the outcome of talks in Lahore today.
Sharif said that meetings of the PML-N parliamentary committee and the central committee were scheduled to be held in Lahore today and he would make an announcement after taking them into confidence. “We will be giving you good news. You will not have to wait for too long,” he said.
“There is no ambiguity or doubt, and both parties agree that the deposed judges would be restored in accordance with the Bhurban Declaration,” Sharif said.
He thanked Asif Ali Zardari, and his aides Farooq Naek and Rehman Malik, for conducting the meetings in a cordial way and taking the PML-N’s view on the subject forward in a meaningful manner.
Sharif said that Zardari was like his brother, and added that the PPP co-chairman had to leave a little earlier to attend to a family matter. “He left after completing the work. In fact, we suggested him to go,” he added.
The PML-N leader said that the constitutional package, proposed by the PPP, was a different issue that also came under discussion during the meetings. He said that a committee set up to deal with the issue of restoration of judges had made substantial progress.
Zardari when confronted by reporters while getting into his car as he was leaving the meeting venue, said, “This is Dubai. No politics here. Our talks will always continue.”
PPP aides Farooq Naek and Rehman Malik also sounded positive. “Everything is ok. The result of the meetings is very good and will be announced very soon. We endorse the stand of our coalition partners on the issue of judges,” Naek said.
Agencies add: Nawaz Sharif said that reinstatement of judges would take place as previously agreed. “It has been decided and reiterated that the restoration of the judges will take place as per the Murree declaration,” Sharif said.
Asif Zardari left the negotiations before Sharif, telling reporters only that the talks were meant to improve their relationship.
Sharif said earlier yesterday that he would not budge an inch from his demand for the reinstatement of judges. “We cannot accept the November 3 action under any circumstances,” Sharif told Geo television.
“We will not sit in peace until the judges are restored. We are trying our level best that we stay together in the coalition and together return all the judges back to their offices with honour and dignity.
“I am trying my level best to make sure we fulfil the commitment we made to the nation on the restoration of judges,” Sharif said.
Sharif said the future of the coalition with the PPP could come under review if they failed to agree on the judges issue. “Our parliamentary party and the central working committee will meet to decide about it,” Sharif said when asked about the future of the coalition if the judges were not restored.

I stand by my Nov. 3 actions: Musharraf

ISLAMABAD — President Pervez Musharraf has said he stood by his November 3 steps against judges of superior courts because these saved the democratic process from being derailed.
“I still stand by the steps taken by me with reference to deposed judges,” Musharraf was quoted as having told PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain who called on him at the Army House, adding: “Had I not taken these steps, there would have been no democracy in the country.” The meeting with Chaudhry Shujaat took place against the backdrop of increasing signs of deep fissures within the four-party coalition government, in particular the widening gap between two major partners — the PPP and PML-N. Musharraf and Shujaat discussed at length a set of issues including the evolving political situation in the country and possible new alignments if PPP and PML-N part ways. Musharraf said the country was facing countless challenges and “we will have to counter them in unison rather than pursuing the path of confrontation so that we may move forward successfully”. He said he was constitutionally elected president and he would perform his obligations for five years in line with law and the constitution. He said he will continue to extend support and work with the new government within the parameters of constitution.

Punjab to replace law officers, says minister

LAHORE — Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah has said the PML-N government would remove all law officers of the Advocate-General’s Office and the Prosecution Department.
Addressing the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) at a reception given by the PML-N Lawyers Forum, the minister said the current law officers would be replaced with lawyers who had been sincere with the lawyers’ movement for the judiciary’s independence. He said the previous government had appointed these officers to help it oppose the movement. Sanaullah said the Punjab advocate-general would be removed in a few days, adding that a summary (proposal) for this purpose has already been moved. He said members of the PML-N Lawyers Forum as well as other lawyers who took active part in the movement would replace the incumbent law officers.

Deposed judges to be reinstated on May 12: Nawaz

LAHORE : PML‑N Chief Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Friday said that the deposed judges would be reinstated on May 12 through a resolution as per spirit of Murree Declaration.“The resolution will be tabled in the National Assembly on May 12 and the same day the government will issue a notification to reinstate the deposed judges,” he said while briefing newsmen after a meeting of PML‑N Central Working Committee at Model Town here.
Chairman PML‑N Raja Zafarul Haq, President Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, General Secretary Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Senior Vice President Javid Hashmi and other leaders were also present on the occasion.
PML (N) Chief said that a committee comprising constitutional experts had been formed to draft the resolution for the restoration of the deposed judges.
The members of the committee headed by Federal Law Minister, Farooq H. Naek will have Barrister Aitezaz Ahsan, Hafizuddin Peerzada, Fakharuddin G. Ibraheem, Khawaja Haris and Mian Raza Rabbani.
The committee will consider the matter in threadbare manner and would refer the issue back to the top leadership in case of any deadlock, Nawaz said.
Responding to a question, he said that PML (N) had reservations about the post‑November 3 judiciary. However, PPPP Co‑Chairman Asif Ali Zardari had expressed his wish to retain the present judges during Dubai round of talks.
“ We have accepted Mr. Zardari’s demand to achieve the supreme goal of restoration of deposed judges,” he maintained.
Nawaz Sharif said that the PPP‑PML (N) leadership would also take ANP Chief, Asfandyar Wali and JUI (F) leader, Maulana Fazalur Rehman into confidence on all issues, he added.
To another question, Nawaz Sharif said that the ruling coalition would not accept any stay order against the restoration of the judges.
Nawaz Sharif said that all the component parties of the ruling coalition including PML (N) wanted to continue and sustain the alliance in the larger interest of the nation and democracy.
“The alliance will help ensure the implementation of Charter of Democracy in letter and spirit, revocation of 17th amendment, abolition of National Security Council and scrapping of all the dictatorial rules to turn the office of Prime Minister into real executive power,” PML (N) chief spelled out the objectives of alliance.
He said that coalition government would restore the 1973 constitution in its pre‑October 12 1999 condition. “Besides fixing the constitutional and judicial matters, the government will also steer the nation out of economic crisis,” he
asserted. Nawaz paid tributes to negotiation teams of both PML (N) and PPPP for exhibiting flexibility and sagacity of extreme level while sorting out the ticklish issues.
He congratulated lawyers community, civil society, political parties, media and general public on their success in achieving the lofty ideal of judges’ restoration.
He said that various points of the constitutional package were of recommendatory nature, assuring that all the stakeholders in this regard would be kept on board to come to a broad‑based decision acceptable to all of them.
To a query, PML (N) Quaid said that resolution for the restoration of deposed judges and proposed constitutional packages were two separate things and added that restoration of judges was being made in line with Bhurban Declaration.

Gilani urges extremists to renounce violence; hold talks

QUETTA : Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Friday reiterating his offer of talks to those who lay down their arms and renounce violence said government would not tolerate extremism and terrorism at any cost.Addressing the Balochistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry during his first visit to the provincial metropolis, the Prime Minister said terrorism was a serious threat to peace, security and stability of the country and the region.
“I appeal to all extremists to renounce violence and be a part of the democratic process. We are ready to talk to all those who wish to leave this path,” the Prime Minister added.
He said under a democratic setup all issues can be resolved through political and administrative measures and there was no need for resorting to violence.
Prime Minister Gilani said the government has stopped the military operation in parts of Balochistan and said a comprehensive strategy was being devised to resolve the matters.
Prime Minister Gilani said Pakistan was an agricultural country and all efforts were underway to meet country’s food needs.
He said of the 25,000 tube wells in Balochistan around 15600 are getting 90 percent subsidy costing Rs 6.6 billion. Of this, he said, Rs 2 billion were being paid by the federal government, Rs 2 billion by provincial government and Rs 2.6 billion by Wapda.
He said it was not possible to provide 100 per cent subsidy as the country was already facing a serious electricity crisis and any such subsidy in one province will create disharmony among people and other members of federation.
He said the government was working on a plan to pave water courses at a cost of Rs 60 billion that would help it preserve precious water and irrigate uncultivated areas.
The Prime Minister said there was a growing trend of organic agro products across the world and there was a need to utilise modern methods to cut the use of fertilisers and grow organic crops.
He said fertilizer and DAP were already been provided on subsidised rates and efforts are underway to avoid any increase.
Gilani also pointed at the need of improving the vast open tracts of the province to rear lamb and sheep and added that initially a target of providing 100,000 farm animals for Saudi Arabia was being pursued.
He assured that the issue of loans to the farmers from Balochistan will be reviewed and a decision taken on it.
Prime Minister Gilani said Pakistan will purchase 1100 MW of electricity from Iran to help it meets its energy needs. He said a DG Khan-Loralai 220 KV transmission line and grid station has already been approved besides a Gwadar-Makran 220 KV line and grid station was under construction.
He directed the provincial government to immediately provide electricity connection to the Gwadar Industrial Estate, while feasibility was underway to link Lasbella. He said three projects for providing alternative energy were already underway.
He said 100 acres have been provided for the Bostan Industrial area, while 50 acres will be provided for the one in Loralai.
About the provision of natural gas, he said, a comprehensive plan was being pursued in this regard. He also pointed that the National Highway Authority was working on 16 projects at the cost of Rs 9.7 billion.
He said the finance ministry will look into the proposal of limiting interest rates from Banks to 12-13 per cent for industries and 10 per cent for agriculture sector, in light of the prevalent practice internationally.

No military action in province against Balochistan govt’s strategy: PM

QUETTA : Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani Friday said no military action was being carried out in Balochistan at present, adding the policy would continue till the newly formed provincial government formulates a strategy in this regard.“It has been decided that no army action would be taken in the province, unless a strategy is formulated in consultation with the representatives of provincial government,” the Prime Minister said in his address at the cabinet meeting of Balochistan government here.The Prime Minister said a proper strategy would be made to deal with the issue of law and order in the province.
Gilani said he was briefed by the army on law and order situation in various areas of the country, however he postponed the briefing on Balochistan till the formation of government in the province.
The Prime Minister said he wanted the representatives of Balochistan government to be present during the briefing so that decision could be taken through proper consultation.
He asked the cabinet members to play role in improving law and order situation in the province.
“You can manage yourself to keep law and order in place because you represent your parties and also the local tribes,” he added.
Gilani urged the new provincial government to improve civil structure by making the cabinet effective, arranging open hearings for common people and touring local areas to address their grievances.

PM orders release of detained BNP cheif

QUETTA : Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani Friday ordered the release of Balochistan National Party (BNP) president Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal, who has been under detention for last seven months. In his first address to the newly formed Balochistan cabinet here, the Prime Minister directed the authorities to withdraw all cases against the former chief minister.acquitted Mengal and BNP general secretary Habib Jalib advocate in treason cases and ordered the concerned officials to quash FIRs and exonerate them of the charges.

Mengal was arrested in September 2006 along with around 700 other political workers in a government crackdown in Balochistan.
Meanwhile, Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court Justice Amanullah Khan Yasinzai has The single-judge bench acquitted the BNP-M chief in one treason case and its secretary general in two similar cases.
During the hearing, Habib Jalib advocate contended that there was no sufficient evidence to connect him and his client with commission of the alleged offenses.
He argued that the treason cases registered against BNP-M chief and other Baloch nationalist leaders had no weight as they did not deliver speeches at the Nimaz-i-Jinaza in absentia for late Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti at Ayub Stadium.
The counsel said the ex-information secretary of Jamhuri Watan Party (JWP) Amanullah Kanrani and ex-general secretary JWP Senator Agha Shahid Bugti had already been exonerated and the FIRs against them had also been quashed.
The bench disposed of the three criminal quashment applications and ordered the concerned officials to revoke the FIRs registered with New Sariab, Sariab and Civil Line police stations.
Sardar Akhtar Mengal and Habib Jalib filed criminal quashment applications in May 2007, challenging the FIRs registered against them after Ghaibana Nimaz-i-Jinaza of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti in the provincial capital on August 30, 2006.
Meanwhile, the bench adjourned hearing of three other treason cases against Sardar Akhtar Mengal till May 9. It also adjourned hearing of treason cases against Habib Jalib, Khalid Longov, ex-MPA Akhtar Hussain Longov, Abdul Razaq Longov, Ghulam Nabi Marri, Ali Ahmed Kurd and Suhail Rajpoot advocate till May 9.
The adjournment came when Habib Jalib sought time to submit copy of judgement of the lower court in which co-accused had been acquitted in the same cases.
Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raisani had announced withdrawal of cases against Sardar Akhtar Mengal on April 21.

All Parties Conference soon to devise strategy on resolving Balochistan’s issues: Gilani

QUETTA : Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Friday said an All Parties Conference will be convened soon to resolve the issues of Balochistan and to find measures to undo injustices done to the people of province in the past. Addressing the Balochistan Cabinet here, the Prime minister said the government had already sought an apology from the people over the wrong doings committed to them in the past.
He said the government was working on a policy to bring the province into mainstream and the all parties conference was a step to achieve political reconciliation at national level.
The Prime Minister directed the Adviser on Interior Rehman Malik to take immediate measures for the recovery of missing persons, particularly those from Balochistan.
He said on all the development projects, the people of Balochistan would be taken into confidence, along with the provincial government.
Gilani said just before the cabinet meeting, five officers from Balochistan were promoted to BPS 22, to address a long standing demand that those from the province were not being treated equally in the civil service.
Prime Minister Gilani said the people of Pakistan had reposed confidence in the newly elected government and it was its responsibility to deliver and bring the country out of crises.
The Prime Minister said political forces needed to forge unity and stand together to face the numerous challenges confronting the country.
He said the injustices in the past were the result of dictatorial rule in the country and added the new democratic government would do its best to undo discriminations.
He mentioned the severe loadshedding, shortage of wheat and rice and escalating prices of essential food items and vowed that every efforts would be taken to address the issues.
He said the federal government had set up a task force to address the issue of wheat transportation. He said 100,000 tonnes of wheat will immediately be provided from PASSCO. Punjab will provide 50,000 tonnes, while the government will provide additional 300,000 tonnes of wheat to help the province meet its requirements. He said 200,000 tonnes imported wheat will also be provided to Balochistan.
He said the people of Balochistan rendered numerous sacrifices for Pakistan and said the six percent quota in jobs for Balochistan would be ensured.
The Prime Minister said the federal government would also provide funds for converting the B Areas into A. The Oil and Gas Development Corporation (OGDC) was working to pump out natural gas from the Jhal Magsi area for commercial use in three years.
He said the Shahdadkot Road was being upgraded at a cost of Rs 56 million.
He said out of the Rs 19 million project for provision of gas in Dera Bugti Rs 16 million had already been provided while the rest of the amount will be provided soon. He said the alignment of Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project would be reviewed, while work on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline will also start soon and added that representatives from Balochistan will be included in the project.
The Prime Minister said Rs 905 million were being spent on providing alternative sources of energy.
Gilani said the previous Peoples Party government was criticised for having a deal with the Independent Power Producers.
“But had we not provided the electricity through the IPP’s, the country would have been living in stone age,” Gilani said.
He said there was a vital need for providing water resources and warned that the future wars would be fought for waters.
He asked the provincial government to improve its civil structure and make the cabinet effective, by holding open public hearings and all the departments must deliver and address the grievances of the people.
Prime Minister Gilani announced construction of 100 low cost houses, as part of PM’s 100-day programme in Balochistan. He said COMSATS Institute of Information Technology will construct four technical colleges in the country, including one in Quetta.
It was Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani’s first visit to the provincial capital since he assumed his duties.
The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani and 38 ministers.
The Prime Minister was briefed about the problems being faced by the provincial government and measures required to improve the things.
Earlier the Cabinet offered fateha for Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto who was killed in a gun and bomb attack in Rawalpindi on Dec 27 last year.

The Prime Minister also said that the government would use all available resources to trace the missing persons in Balochistan.
In his first interaction with the Balochistan cabinet, the Prime Minister said the government was fully aware to the problems, the province was facing in movement and transportation of wheat.
“Ministry of Food and Agriculture has already set up a Task Force in this regard,” he said, adding that Balochistan has 15 days of wheat stock to meet provincial needs.
“The PASSCO (Pakistan Agriculture Storage and Supply Corporation) has been directed to immediately provide 100,000 tonnes of wheat for the province.”
For further boosting supplies, Prime Minister Gilani said Punjab will provide 50,000 tonnes of wheat to Balochistan and will purchase another 300,000 tonnes for the province.
Balochistan will also have 200,000 tonnes from the wheat being imported by the government for stock and domestic requirements.
On the issue of missing persons, Prime Minister Gilani assured the Balochistan government that all concerned departments would be mobilized to trace the missing persons.
He asked the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Interior, Rehman Malik to take immediate steps in this regard.
Alluding to the energy, wheat and water crises created by the wrong policies of the previous government, the Prime Minister said the government was fully aware of problems and injustices being faced by the people including Balochistan.
He said there was a sense of deprivation among the people in Balochistan and assured that all efforts would be made to undo the wrongs meted out to the province.
“After the mandate given to the PPP and other democratic forces, it is our responsibility to undo the injustices done to the people, especially the people of Balochistan.
The government, he said, would take all steps for the betterment and welfare of the people in Balochistan and to bring them into the national mainstream.
Prime Minister Gilani said the provincial government and the people would be taken into confidence with regard to development projects in the province and the government would ensure availability of funds for the mega projects.
“There will be no hinderance in the provision of funds for the major projects.”
He held out a firm assurance that six percent quota for Balochistan in the federal departments would be strictly followed to ensure rightful share of youth of the province.
In this regard, Prime Minister Gilani said he has directed the cabinet to create more job opportunities and not to disturb the formula.

Zardari-Nawaz to announce details of proposed constitutional package

ISLAMABAD :The details of the proposed constitutional package would be announced soon by PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N Chief Mian Nawaz Sharif.This was stated by Minister for Law and Justice Farooq H Naek on Friday while talking to Geo News.
He said the constitutional package would be put before the National Assembly alongwith the resolution to restore the deposed judges.
He said multiple reforms have been proposed in the proposed constitutional package.Some have already been made public by him (Naek) and Mian Nawaz Sharif.
National Assembly session would be convened on May 12.After finalisation of the draft resolution, to restore the judges, opinion of other coalition partners ANP and JUI-F would also be sought before tabling it in NA, he informed.
Regarding delay in announcing the reinstatement of judges he said the committee have to keep in mind each and every aspect and avoid clash and confrontation.
He said, both the parties are committed to reinstate the deposed judges.The goal of both parties is same.Disagreement on any issue is essence of democracy.
In democratic society difference of opinion is understandable. In dictatorship it is not allowed. Delay was to ensure free independent and vibrant judiciary here in the country.Intentions are right and commitment is there to avoid any clash.
Nobody is against the restoration of deposed judges.However method can be different, he concluded.
To a question regarding fear of stay order from the supreme court on National Assembly’s resolution, he said all the aspects have already been discussed to avoid any complications.

Pakistan committed to taking forward ongoing dialogue process with India: Sherry

NEW DELHI : Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Sherry Rehman Friday said Pakistan was committed to taking forward the ongoing dialogue process with India as peace is pre‑requisite for sustainable development and stability in the region.
She said this while talking to reporters here after attending the last rituals of the prominent peace campaigner, Nirmala Deshpande, who passed away Thursday.
Sherry Rehman said Deshpande’s demise is a great loss not only for India but also for Pakistan as she played a crucial role in consolidating and promoting dialogue process between the two neighboring countries.
She said the late Deshpande, popularly known as Deedi (elder sister) had greatly contributed with the help of members of parliament from Pakistan towards establishment of Pakistan‑India Parliamentary Forum ‑ the first in the region to make the peace process sustainable and irreversible.
The Minister remarked such persons on either side of the two countries never die and Deshpande’s life long noble struggle for love, affection and peace among various cultures, faiths and specially across the border would always remind the generations of her valuable and selfless accomplishments.
She said the death of Deshpande has created a huge gap, almost difficult to be filled in the years to come.
She expressed the resolve that government and parliamentarians of Pakistan would encourage social and peace activists on both sides to continue carrying forward this noble mission to facilitate and promote people to people contact between the two South Asian nations.
Referring to her visit, the Minister said she has come to Delhi as Special Envoy of the Prime Minister and the people of Pakistan to participate in the last rituals of this old parliamentarian and illustrious Gandhian and also pay homage to her struggle for peace and friendship between the two people.
On the occasion, the Minister also met with several Indian leaders, MPs including Congress Secretary General, Rahul Gandhi and conveyed condolence on behalf of the people and government of Pakistan on the demise of the peace activist.
Rahul Gandhi specially thanked government of Pakistan for sending a high level delegation to share the grief.
The Minister Sherry Rehman arrived New Delhi in the wee hours Friday by a special plane along with Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Northern Areas, Qamar Zaman Kaira and a prominent PPP leader and former member of National Assembly Manzoor Ahmad Chaudhry.
High Commissioner for Pakistan, Shahid Malik and senior officials of the High Commission received the delegation at the IGI Airport, New Delhi.
Later, the delegation left for Islamabad by a special plane Friday evening.

اسلام آباد ۔ پاکستان بار کونسل نے واضح کیا ہے کہ12 مئی تک ججز بحال نہ ہوئے تو سترہ مئی سے تحریک شروع کر دی جائے گی ۔ قرار داد اعلان مری کے مطابق تیار کی جائے چیف جسٹس افتخار محمد چوہدری کو مدت ملازمت میں کمی کی مزاحمت کی جائے گی ۔ان خیالات کا اظہار پاکستان بار کونسل کی ایگزیکٹو کمیٹی کے اجلاس کے بعد رشید اے رضوی نے صحافیوں سے بات چیت کرتے ہوئے کیا۔ انہوں نے کہاکہ بار کونسل نے حکمران اتحاد کی جانب سے ڈیڈ لائن کے مطابق ججز کو بحال نہ کئے جانے پر تشویش کا اظہار کیا ہے چیف جسٹس کی مدت ملازمت میں کمی کی کوشش کی گئی تو اس کی بھرپور مخالفت کی جائے گی انہوں نے کہاکہ اجلاس میں فیصلہ کیا گیا ہے کہ جج بارہ مئی کو بحال نہ ہوئے تو سترہ مئی سے وکلاء تحریک شروع کردیں گے ۔ آرمی چیف صدر کے عہدے کیلئے اہل نہیں ہو سکتا انہوں نے کہا کہ تین نومبر کے اقدامات کو آئینی تحفظ فراہم کرنے کی کوشش کی گئی اس کی مخالفت کریں گے انہوں نے کہاکہ وکلاء نے آمر کے غیر آئینی غیر قانونی اقدامات کو تسلیم کیا ہے نہ کیاجائے گا۔

مسلم لیگ ن کے قائد میاں محمد نواز شریف نے ججوں کی بحالی کیل ئے 12 مئی کو قرار داد قومی اسمبلی میں پیش کر نے کا اعلان کیا ہے 12 مئی 2007ء کو ہی کراچی میں چیف جسٹس افتخار چوہدری کے استقبال کے موقع پر وکلاء اور سیاسی جماعتوں کے کارکنوں کے عدلیہ کی آزادی کی تحریک کے لئے اپنی جانوں کا نذرانہ پیش کیا تھا اور 48 افراد شہید ہو گئے تھے واضح رہے کہ 9 مارچ کو چیف جسٹس افتخار محمد چوہدری کو معزول کیا گیا تھا اور 9 مارچ کو ہی وزیر اعظم سید یوسف رضا گیلانی نے معزول ججوں کی نظر بندی کو ختم کر نے کا اعلان کیا تھا۔

نواز شریف کی برطرفی ، ججوں کی بحالی اور وکلاء تحریک میں ٤٧ افراد کے قتل میں ١٢ تاریخ نمایاں رہی

لاہو۔ میاں نواز شریف کی حکومت کی برطرفی ، معزول ججوں کی بحالی اور وکلاء تحریک میں 47 شہریو ںکے قتل میں 12 کا ہندسہ اہم رہا ۔ تفصیلات کے مطابق میاں نوازشریف کی حکومت 12 اکتوبر 1999 کو برطرف کی گئی، 12 مئی کو معزول چیف جسٹس افتخار محمد چوہدری کی کراچی آمد پر 47 افراد کو قتل کر دیا گیا جبکہ چیف جسٹس سمیت معزول ججوں کی بحالی بھی 12 مئی کو کرنے کا اعلان کیا گیا ہے ۔

مذاکرات میں ڈیڈ لاک پی سی او ججوں کو برقرار رکھنے اور ججوں کو آئینی پیکج کے ذریعے بحال کرنے کے مسئلہ پر پیدا ہوا

پاکستان مسلم لیگ ن اور پیپلز پارٹی کے درمیان ججوں کی بحالی کے سلسلہ میں مذاکرات کے دوران ڈیڈ لاک پی سی او ججوں کو برقرار رکھنے اور چیف جسٹس کے ٹنور پر ہوا ۔ ذرائع کے مطابق پیپلز پارٹی کے شریک چیئرمین ججوں کو آئینی پیکج کے ذریعے جس میں چیف جسٹس کے ٹنور میں کمی بھی شامل ہو کے ساتھ بحال کروانے کے علاوہ موجودہ پی سی او ججوں کو بھی بحال رکھنا چاہتے تھے جبکہ میاں نواز شریف پی سی او ججوں کو فارغ کرنے کے علاوہ چیف جسٹس کو اعلان مری کے تحت سادہ قرار داد کے ذریعے بحال کروانا چاہتے تھے اسی وجہ سے میاں نواز شریف کو خود دبئی جا کر مذاکرات کرنے پڑے اور ’’کچھ لو کچھ دو‘‘ کی بنیاد پر معاملات طے پائے ۔

مرکزی مجلس عاملہ اور پارلیمانی پارٹی کے اجلاس کے بعد پریس کانفرنس سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے کیا۔ پارٹی کے مرکزی صدر شہباز شریف ، راجہ ظفرالحق ، اقبال ظفر جھگڑا ، مخدوم جاوید ہاشمی اور دیگر رہنما بھی موجود تھے ۔نواز شریف نے کہاکہ سب لوگ جانتے ہیں کہ 12 اکتوبر 1999 کے بعد کی پوری تاریخ ایک آمر کی غیر آئینی غیر جمہوری آمرانہ اور جابرانہ اقدامات کی تاریخ ہے لیکن جو کچھ 3 نومبر 2007ء کو ہوا اس کی مثال نہ ہماری تاریخ میں ملتی ہے نہ پوری دنیا کی تاریخ میں ملتی ہے ایک برطرف شدہ جرنیل نے وردی پہن کر 60 کے لگ بھک ججوں کو معزول کر دیا انہیں بال بچوں سمیت قید کر دیا اور مرضی کے ججوں کی عدالت بنا کر مرضی کے فیصلے لینے لگے اس شرمناک واردات نے عدلیہ کی ہی نہیں پورے ریاستی نظام کی بنیادیں ہلا کر رکھ دیں سول سوسائٹی سیاسی جماعتوں طلباء اور صحافیوں سمیت معاشرے کے تمام طبقوں نے غیر آئینی اقدامات کے خلاف بے مثال جدوجہد کا آغاز کیا ان پر بے پناہ تشدد کیا گیا جیلوں میں ڈالا گیا مسلم لیگ ن پہلے دن سے ہی اس قوم تحریک کے ہراول دستے میں رہی انتخابات کا اعلان ہوا ہم نے کوششیں کی کہ تمام اپوزیشن کی بڑی جماعتیں اسی نقطے پر انتخابات کے بائیکاٹ کا اعلان کریں لیکن ہمیں کامیابی نہ ہوئی ہم نے انتخابات عمل میں شریک ہو نے کا فیصلہ کیا اور عوامی امنگوں کی ترجمانی کر تے ہوئے برطرف ججوں کی بحالی کو اپنے انتخابی منشور کا بنیادی نقطہ بنایا ہم نے اپنے تمام امیدواروں سے اس بات کا حلف بھی لیا کہ منتخب ہو نے کے بعد وہ ججوں کی بحالی کے عزم پر قائم رہیں گے آمر کی طرف سے کسے گئے شکنجوں کے باوجود ہمیں اللہ کے فضل اور عوام کی تائید و حمایت سے بڑی کامیابی ہوئی پیپلز نے مرکز اور پنجاب میں حکومت سازی کے لئے ہم سے تعاون چاہا ہم نے اس تعاون کی صرف ایک ہی شرط رکھی کہ غیر آئین یطور پر برطرف کیے گئے تمام ججوں کو بحال کیا جائے ہم نے یہ پیشکش بھی کی کہ اقتدار میں کوئی حصہ نہیں چا ہئیں گے ہمیں وزارتیں بھی نہیں چاہئیں کیونکہ ہمارا کوئی ایک رکن غیر آئینی صدر حلف اٹھانے پر تیار نہیں تاہم ہم نے یہ کڑوا گھونٹ بھی پی لیا کیونکہ ہمارا معزول ججوں کی بحالی کا مشن تھا 9 مارچ 2008ء کو مری میں مذاکرات ہوئے ان مذاکرات کے نتیجہ میں ایک مشترکہ اعلان کا مسودہ تیار ہوا جسے اعلان مری کا نام دیا گیا اس اعلان کے تحت ہم نے حکومت میں شریک ہو نا قبول کر لیا جبکہ ججوں کی بحالی کے حوالے سے تین اہم باتیں طے کر لی گئیں تمام برطرف ججوں کو دو نومبر 2007ء کی سطح پر بحال کیا جائے گا یہ بحالی قومی اسمبلی سے منظور کردہ ایک قرار داد کے ذریعے سے ہو گی اور بحالی کا یہ عمل 30 دنوں کے اندر مکمل کر لیا جائے گا اور اس مدت کا شمار اس دن سے ہو گا جس دن وفاقی حکومت تشکیل پا جائے گی 9 مارچ سے 30 اپریل تک دونوں جماعتیں مسلسل رابطے میں رہی ہیں ۔میر ے اور آصف علی زرداری کے درمیان ملاقاتیں ہوتی رہیں ان میں ہماری مذاکراتی ٹیمیں بھی شامل ہوتی رہی ہیں پچیس اپریل کو میں آصف علی زرداری سے ملنے اسلام آباد پہنچا نواز شریف نے کہاکہ میں یہ بات ہر گز پسند نہیں کرتا تھا کہ اپنے قومی معاملات بیرون ملک میں زیر بحث لائے جائیں لیکن ایسا مجبوراً کرنا پڑا کیونکہ ذرداری ایک نجی مجبوری کے باعث وہاں گئے تھے اور تیس جون کی ڈیڈ لائن میں صرف چند گھنٹے رہ گئے تھے دوبئی مذاکرات میں دونوں جماعتوں کا یہی جذبہ تھا کہ جج بحال ہوں اور اتحاد قائم رہے کیونکہ جمہوری حکومت میں دراڑ سے صرف آمریت کو فائدہ ہو گا دونوں جماعتیں سمجھتی ہیں کہ ججوں کی بحالی کے بعد بھی ہمیں بہت کچھ کرنا ہے ہمیں میثاق جمہوریت کو عملی جامع پہنانا ہے آئینی ترمیم کو آوین سے نکال کر باہر کرنا ہے ہمیں نیشنل سیکیورٹی کونسل ختم کرنا ہے ہمیں صدر کے تمام آمرانہ اختیارات کا خاتمہ کر کے وزیراعظم کو حقیقی چیف ایگزیکٹو بنانا ہے ہمیں پارلیمنٹ کو خود مختار بنانا ہے ہمیں آئین کو بارہ اکتوبر 1999ء کی شکل میں واپس لانا ہے ہمیں مہنگائی ، بے روز گاری اور نا انصافی پر قابو پانا ہے ہمیں آٹے اور لوڈ شیڈنگ جیسے بحرانوں پر قابو پانا ہے ان مقاصد کے لئے ضروری ہے کہ جمہوری حکومتیں متحد رہیں اورا تحاد کو مضبوط بنایا جائے مسلم لیگ (ن) یہ بھی سمجھتی ہے کہ اٹھارہ فروری کا عوامی مینڈیٹ پرویز مشرف نامی شحص کی مکمل نفی کرتا ہے آٹھ سال تک عوام کی پیٹھ پر آمریت کے کوڑے برسائے بار بار آئین کو توڑا جمہوریت کو پاؤں تلے روندا تمام ادارے تباہ کئے عوام کو مہنگائی ، بے روز گاری بد امنی اور قتل و خون ریزی کے تحفے دینے والے شخص کو ایک دن کیلئے بھی صدر کے عہدے پر برقرار رکھنا سولہ کروڑ عوام کی توئین ہے مسلم لیگ (ن) کی مجلس عاملہ اور پارلیمانی پارٹی کے اجلاس کے بعد ایک بار پھر میں اس عزم کو دہراتا ہوں کہ ہم نئے جمہوری نظام کو پرویز مشرف سے پاک کرنے کی جدوجہد جاری رکھیں گے۔ مسلم لیگ (ن) کی بھرپور کوشش تھی کہ اعلان مری کی روح کے مطابق تمام ججز 30اپریل کی ڈیڈ لائن سے پہلے بحال ہو جائیں ہماری بھرپور کوشش کے باوجود ایسا نہ ہو سکا جس کا مجھے دلی افسوس ہے اب میں اعلان مری پر عملدر آمد کے حوالے سے دوبئی مذاکرات میں طے پانے والے مفاہمت کے بارے میں پوری قوم کو اعتماد میں لینا چاہتا ہوں ۔ تین نومبر کی شام سے جاری بحران کا عمل ہے کہ ایک آمر کی طرف سے غیر قانونی طور پر برطرف کئے گئے ججوں کی بحالی ہے او رمیں پوری قوم کو آگاہ کرنا چاہتا ہوں کہ بارہ مئی 2008ء بروز پیر برطرف کئے گئے تمام ججز بحال ہو جائیں گی ۔ مختلف سوالوں کا جواب دیتے ہوئے میاں محمد نواز شریف نے اعلان کیا بارہ مئی کو قومی اسمبلی سے قرار داد منظور ہو گی حکمنامہ جاری کر دیاجائے گا اور اُسی روز تمام غیر آئینی اور غیر قانونی برطرف ججز اپنے عہدوں پر بحال ہو جائیں گے اس مرحلے کے تمام پہلوؤںکا جائزہ اور اس کی کامیابی کیلئے آئینی ماہرین پر مبنی کمیٹی قائم کر دی گئی ہے انہوں نے اس حوالے سے آصف علی زرداری اُن کی ٹیم کا شکریہ ادا کیا اور ان کے کردار کو خراج تحسین پیش کیا انہوں نے مسلم لیگ (ن) کی مذاکراتی ٹیم کی کاوشوں کی بھی تعریف کی ۔ میاں محمد نواز شریف ، عوام ، وکلاء ، میڈیا اور سول سوسائٹی کا بھی شکریہ ادا کیا ۔ انہوں نے کہاکہ فریقین کی مشاورت سے اعلان مری کے مطابق قومی اسمبلی میں قرار داد پیش ہوگی ۔ دوبئی میں تفصیلی مذاکرات ہوئے ۔ ایک سوال کے جواب میں انہوں نے کہاکہ پرویز مشرف اپنا دفاع خود نہیں کر سکتے تو اس سے ملنے والے ان کا کیسے دفاع کر سکتے ہیں جولوگ پرویز مشرف کو مل رہے ہیں یہ ہم سے بھی ملنا چاہتے تھے انہوں نے کہاکہ پرویز مشرف نے تین نومبر کو اتنا بڑا غیر قانونی اور غیر آئینی کام کیا پوری قوم کو حیران وپریشان کر دیا ملک کی تاریخ کا سب سے بڑا سیاہ دن تھا ملکی تاریخ نے آج تک ایسا سیاہ دن نہیں دیکھا جس لوگ سانحہ مشرقی پاکستان روئے تھے تین نومبر کے حکومتی اقدامات پر بھی عوام انتہائی غمگین تھے۔ ایک سوال کے جواب میں انہوں نے کہاکہ قومی اسمبلی کی قرار داد کے خلاف حکم امتناعی نہیں آ سکتا پیپلز پارٹی کے وزیر قانون نے خود کہاہے کہ اچھے طریقے سے فیصلے کئے گئے ایک سوال کے جواب میں انہوں نے کہاکہ پرویز مشرف کے معاوضے کے حق میں قرار داد اعلان مری کی روح کے مطابق ہو گی قرار داد سے آئینی پیکج کا کوئی تعلق واسط نہیں ہوگا انہوں نے کہاکہ ملک کے مستقبل کیلئے سترہویں ترمیم کو ختم کر کے میثاق جمہوریت پر اس کی روح کے مطابق عمل درآمد پر اتفاق ہے۔فوجی مداخلت کا راستہ ہمیشہ کیلئے بند کرنا چاہتے ہیں ۔ تاکہ ملک آئینی اور قانونی ڈگر پر قائم و دائم رہے۔ اعلان مری کے مطابق قومی اسمبلی قرار داد منظور کرے گی ڈیڈ لاک ضرور آیا تھا باہمی مشاورت سے اسے دور کیاگیا۔ پاکستان کے وسیع تر مفاد کی خاطر اتحاد کو برقرا ررکھنے کے سخت حامی ہیں اسی میں پاکستان بقا ء اور سلامتی پوشیدہ ہے ہر قیمت پر برقرار رکھیں گے ۔ایک سوال کے جواب میں انہوں نے کہاکہ موجودہ عدلیہ کے بارے میں تحفظات ہیں پیپلز پارٹی کے سامنے ان تحفظات کا اظہار کر دیا ہے اُن کی جانب سے اس بات پر اصرار کیاگیا کہ ان ججز کو بھی موجود رہنا چاہے۔ عظیم مقصد کی خاطر کچھ معاملات پر قربانی دی ہے قوم سے وعدہ تھاکہ ججز کو بحال کریں گے انہوں نے بتایاکہ پانچ ماہرین پر مشتمل کمیٹی ہو گی وزیر قانون اس کے کنونیئر ہوں گے ۔ دونوں اطراف سے مشاورت کے بعد کمیٹی تجاویز مرتب کرے گی اور اگر کسی بات پر اختلاف رائے ہوا تو کمیٹی قائدین سے رابطہ کرے گی جو مل بیٹھ کر مسئلے کا حل نکالیں گے ۔ایک سوال کے جواب میں انہوں نے کہاکہ اسفند یار ولی خان اور مولانا فضل الرحمن کو بھی اعتماد میں لیاجائے گا۔ کیونکہ مری اعلامیہ پیپلز پارٹی اور ہمارے درمیان ہوا تھااور ہم ہی اسے حل کررہے ہیں

دوبئی ۔ پاکستان پیپلز پارٹی کے شریک چیئرمین آصف زرداری نے کہا کہ برطرف ججوں کی بحالی سے متعلق معاملات بھوربن اعلامیے کے مطابق طے پاگئے ہیں، یہ بات انہوں نے امریکی نشریاتی ادارے سے ٹیلی فون پرگفتگو کرتے ہوئے کہی۔ایک سوال کے جواب میں انہوں نے کہا کہ’ ججوں کی بحالی بھوربن معاہدے کے مطابق، قراداد کے ذریعے، پارلیمان کے ذریعے، پیکیج کے ذریعے اورپارلیمان کے عمل کے ذریعے ہونی ہے۔ اتحاد کے مستقبل کے بارے سوال پر انہوں نے کہا کہ وہ پر امید ہیں کہ یہ قائم رہے گا۔ آصف زرداری نے کہا کہ یہ اتحاد ایک نکاتی ایجنڈا پرمرکوز نہیں ہے، بلکہ یہ ایک جمہوری پاکستان، دستور کو بدلنے اور نیا پاکستان بنانے پر ہے اور انشا اللہ قائم رہے گا۔جب ان سے ججوں کی بحالی سے متعلق سنیٹر مشاہد حسین سید کے بیان پر تبصرہ کرنے کو کہا گیا تو پیپلز پارٹی کے شریک چیئرمین نے کہا کہ مشاہد حسین سے کہیں کہ وہ اپنی سیاست اپنے تک رکھیں۔

کوئٹہ ۔ وزیر اعظم سید یوسف رضا گیلانی نے کہا ہے کہ موجودہ حکومت نے تمام صوبوں کے حقوق کے تحفظ کا تہیہ کر رکھا ہے ۔ جمعہ کو یہاں بلوچستان کابینہ سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے انہوں نے کہا کہ بلوچستان کو اس کے جائز حقوق سے محروم رکھا گیا اور حکومت نے آل پارٹینر کانفرنس ہونے کا فیصلہ کیا ہے تاکہ صوبے میں افہام و تفہیم پیدا کی جا سکے ۔ اور اسے واپس قومی دھارے میں لایا جائے ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ حکومت نے صوبے کی ترقی کے لئے اہم اقدامات کرنے کا فیصلہ کیا ہے ۔ وزیر اعظم نے کہا کہ وفاقی حکومت کی ملازمتوں میں بلوچستان کے لئے 6 فیصد کوٹے پر عمل درآمد کو یقینی بنایا جائے گا ۔ اور وفاقی کابینہ تمام متعلقہ محکموں کو ہدایت کرے گی کہ اس کوٹے پر عمل درآمد کیا جائے ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ وفاقی ملازمتوں میں توازن برقرار رکھنے کے لئے صوبے سے تعلق رکھنے والے 5 افسروں کو گرید 22 میں ترقی دے دی گئی ہے ۔ وزیر اعظم نے کہا کہ کابینہ اور وفاقی حکومت پرانا انتظامی ڈھانچہ تبدیل کرتے ہوئے صوبے کے تمام متعلقہ افراد کو اعتماد میں لے گی ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ وفاقی حکومت بلوچستان کے تمام لاپتہ افراد کی بازیابی کے لئے تمام ممکن اقدامات کر ے اور مشیر داخلہ کو اس سلسلے میں فوری کارروائی کی ہدایت کر دی گئی ہے ۔بلوچ لیڈر سردار اختر مینگل کے خلاف مقدمات کے سلسلے میں وزیر اعظم نے وفاقی اور صوبائی حکومتوں کو ہدایت کی کہ ان کے خلاف تمام مقدمات ختم کئے جائیں اور انہیں فوری طور پر رہا کیا جائے ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ صوبے کو فوری طور پر ایک لاکھ ٹن گندم فراہم کی جائے گی اس کے علاوہ پنجاب بلوچستان کو 50 ہزار ٹن آٹا اور پاسکو 3 لاکھ ٹن درآمد شدہ گندم بھی دی جائے گی انہوں نے صوبائی کابینہ کے ارکان پر زور دیا کہ امن و امان برقرار رکھنے کے لئے وہ اپنا کردار ادا کریں ۔

کراچی۔ کراچی میں جمعہ کو روپے کی قدر میں ریکارڈ کمی ہوئی اور ڈالر کے مقابلے میں روپیہ ملکی تاریخ کی کم ترین سطح پر بند ہوا۔سال کے آغاز سے روپے کی قدر میں 5.4فیصد کمی ہوچکی ہے۔جمعہ کو ڈالر کے مقابلے میں روپے کی قیمت خرید 64.90روپے اور قیمت فروخت64.95روپے رہی جو 25اپریل کے بعد ملکی تاریخ کی کم ترین سطح ہے۔25اپریل کو ڈالر کے مقابلے میں روپے کی قیمت خرید64.66اور قیمت فروخت64.70روپے رہی تھی۔مقامی بنک کے ڈیلر کے مطابق روپے کی قدر میں انتہائی کمی کی وجہ درآمدکنندگان کی جانب سے ڈالر کی طلب میں اضافہ ہے جبکہ اس صورتحال میں اسٹیٹ بنک آف پاکستان کی جانب سے بھی مداخلت نہیں کی جارہی ہے۔

چیئرمین پی سی بی ڈاکٹر نسیم اشرف نے شعیب اختر کے خلاف ٢٢ کروڑ روپے ہرجانے کا دعویٰ دائر کر دیا

لاہور ۔ پی سی بی کے چےئرمین ڈاکٹر نسیم اشرف نے شعیب اختر کے خلاف 22 کروڑ روپے ہرجانے کا دعوی دائر کر دیا ہے ۔ 2 اپریل کو ایک نجی ٹی وی پروگرام میں شعیب اختر نے الزام لگایا تھاکہ پی سی بی کے چےئرمین ان سے آئی پی ایل کے ساتھ معاہدے کے لیے پیسے مانگتے ہیں اور کرکٹ ٹیم کے کھلاڑیوں نے بھی ان کو پیسے دئیے تھے جس کی وجہ سے ان کے معاہدے عمل میں آئے ہیں ۔ اس الزام پر ڈاکٹر نسیم اشرف نے شعیب اختر کو 3 اپریل کو ایک لیگل نوٹس بھجوایا تھا کہ وہ غیر مشروط معافی مانگیں لیکن تاحال شعیب اختر کی جانب سے کوئی جواب نہیں آیا جس پر جمعہ کو مسز حنا ظفر سول جج لاہور کی عدالت میں ڈاکٹر نسیم اشرف نے ہر جانے کا دعویٰ دائر کر دیا ہے۔ دعوے میں 15 کروڑ روپے شہرت کو نقصان پہنچانے 4 کروڑ روپے کرکٹ کے کاموں کے مداخلت کے حوالے سے جبکہ باقی رقم کورٹ فیس اور ذہنی اذیت پہنچانے کے حوالے سے ہے جس کی کل مالیت 22 کروڑ روپے بنتی ہے۔

ججز کو 2 نومبر والی پوزیشن پر بحال کیا جائے گا،نواز شریف

'Sarkar Raj' to kick off IIFA weekend in Thailand

Bangkok:Amitabh Bachchan starrer "Sarkar Raj" will kick off the 9th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards starting from June 6 in Bangkok.
The annoucement was made here Wednesday."I am delighted that my film 'Sarkar Raj' is being premiered at the prestigious IIFA awards and am eagerly looking forward to this splendid event," Amitabh, the IIFA brand ambassador, told media. Directed by Ram Gopal Varma, the film also stars Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Ra. The three day event will end on June 8 with handing out of the awards .The event is expected to draw Bollywood fans to Bangkok from around the region and to generate more business between India and Thailand. The two countries have signed a trade agreement.The IIFA Weekend Bangkok is being sponsored by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Dusit Thani Hotel group, Siam Niramit Co, Indorama Group and the Bangkok Post newspaper.

Ajay Devgan storms out of 'Rock N Roll Family' set

New Delhi:Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan, who is currently on the judging panel of Zee TV's reality show “Rock N Roll Family” along with his wife Kajol and mother-in-law Tanuja, is usually a calm and reserved man. But recently, he lost his cool and stormed out of the set of the show.
The actor lost his patience when the existing families in the competition objected to newly selected families who were made to enter the show as 'wild card entries'. "If you guys know best, then carry on. I will not tolerate a change of format halfway through the show,” Ajay said and left the set. He was irked by the existing participants' plea to alter the current format of the show. He pulled Kajol along with him too. "Rock N Roll Family" is a music and dance competition where three generations of family members participate. Initially, there were 12 families who participated in the show. Brijesh from the Saxena family initiated the argument. He said: “It is unfair to introduce two new families at this stage of the competition. While we have struggled to reach this far in the competition, suddenly two new families will just have a cakewalk on the show.” He also proposed the re-entry of those families who have already been eliminated. Ajay reacted saying that even if the participants had any disagreements, they should have addressed it earlier. He stated: “Whatever is happening will go on and whosoever has any problem should leave.”

Upen Patel didn't mind stepping in for Salman

Mumbai: Everyone is talking about actor Upen Patel's daredevil act at the Zee awards function in London, but the actor says it was originally designed for Bollywood star Salman Khan.
"I was actually asked to step into Salman Khan's act at the last minute. Believe it or not, I had just one hour to rehearse! I don't know how I managed it," Upen, who featured in films like "36 China Town" and "Namastey London", told IANS."Salman, I'm told, couldn't come for his performance because of a torn ligament. I happily agreed to be a last-minute replacement because I didn't want them to incur losses. Why wouldn't I want to step in for Salman? He's a rock star. Besides, they altered Salman's act to suit my personality."Initially, I was supposed to dance to two songs from 'Partner'. But when I stepped in, they re-structured the intro with bits of my songs from '36 China Town' and 'Shakalaka Boom Boom' to begin the act."The response Upen got from his fellow-Londoners on the Saturday event was unimaginable."London is my home. And to perform there was a dream come true for me. My mom, my sister and my entire family watched me. They had planned a lavish act with Salman with motorbikes on stage and everything."Earlier, Upen was supposed to be part only of Shah Rukh Khan's act."He did a kind of 'Om Shanti Om' with a gender reversal where instead of all the heroines all the heroes joined him on stage. I was only supposed to be a part of that. But thanks to Salman, I had two acts, one for myself and one with Shah Rukh. The press here in London has gone ballistic over my act. I can't get over it."

'Deal reached' on Pakistan judges

The head of one of Pakistan's ruling coalition partners says a deal has been reached on how to restore judges sacked by President Pervez Musharraf.
PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif said talks with the PPP's Asif Zardari had "yielded very positive results".
Mr Sharif said he would give more details on Friday. There has been no word from Mr Zardari.
The new government had promised to restore the senior judges by the end of April but disagreed over how to do it.
Analysts say failure to resolve the differences had put the month-old coalition government under strain.
President Musharraf sacked about 60 judges - some sitting on the Supreme Court - in November 2007, after declaring a state of emergency.
'Fully satisfied'
Speaking to the media from Dubai where the talks were held, Mr Sharif said he was "fully satisfied" by the progress made.
"The judges will be restored through a [parliamentary] resolution," he said.
Judicial reforms sought by Mr Zardari were a "separate issue", he said, adding that he would give further details in Lahore on Friday.


The PPP's Sherry Rehman said there had been progress in the talks, and confirmed that Mr Sharif would make a formal announcement on Friday.
"Judges will be reinstated, the parliament will also pass a resolution and there will also be a constitutional package," she said.
The talks between the two main coalition leaders started at a hotel in Dubai on Wednesday.
Mr Zardari had wanted to link the judges' re-instatement to a broader package of judicial reforms that would apparently curb the powers of the chief justice.
Mr Sharif had insisted that any reform package be worked out later, since restoring the judges had been his condition for joining the coalition.
The judges, including the chief justice of the Supreme Court, Iftikhar Chaudhry, were sacked after Mr Musharraf declared the state of emergency.
At the time, the Supreme Court was preparing to rule on whether his re-election earlier that year was legal.
They were also due to rule on whether an amnesty the president granted to Mr Zardari and his wife, the assassinated former PM Benazir Bhutto, in a number of corruption cases was legal.
