دوبئی ۔ حکمران اتحاد کی دونوں بڑی جماعتوں کے ججوں کی بحالی کے لئے قومی اسمبلی میں قرار داد پیش کر نے پر اتفاق ہو گیا ہے آئینی پیکج قرار داد سے منسلک نہیں ہو گا مذاکرات میں طے پانے والے معاملات سے نواز شریف کل بروز جمعہ قوم کو آگاہ کریں گے مذاکرات کے بعد میڈیا سے گفتگو کر تے ہوئے پاکستان مسلم لیگ ن کے قائد میاں محمد نواز شریف نے دوبئی میں ہو نے والے مذاکرات کو مثبت اور نتیجہ خیز قرار دیتے ہوئے کہا ہے کہ ججز کی بحالی اعلان مری کے مطابق اور قرار داد کے ذریعے ہی ہو گی اور اس کا باقاعدہ اعلان کل جمعہ کو لاہور میں کیا جائے گا صحافیوں سے بات چیت کر تے ہوئے میاں نواز شریف نے کہا کہ مذاکرات میں حوصلہ افزاء پیش رفت ہوئی ہے اور آصف زر داری قابل تعریف ہیں جنہوں نے مثبت انداز میں بات کو آگے بڑھایا ہے میاں نواز شریف نے آصف زر داری کی طرف سے مذاکرات سے واک آؤٹ کر نے کے تاثر کو سختی سے مسترد کر تے ہوئے کہا کہ آصف علی زر داری بات کو مکمل کر کے گئے ہیں وہ بات کو ادھورا چھوڑ کر نہیں گئے و کسی خاندانی معاملے کی وجہ سے چلے گئے تاہم بات مکمل کر کے گئے تھے میاں نواز شریف نے مذاکرات پر اطمینان کا اظہار کر تے ہوئے کہا کہ ہم مذاکرات پر مطمئن ہیں دونوں جانب سے ججز کی بحالی پر اتفاق ہو گیا ہے اور تمام ججز اعلان مری کے مطابق ہی بحال ہوں گے اور اس کا باقاعدہ اعلان جمعہ کو لاہور میں کیا جائے گا میاں نواز شریف نے کہا کہ مذاکرات انتہائی خوشگوار اور پر امن و پر سکون ماحول میں ہوئے ہیں اور قوم کو لاہور میں خوشخبری سنا دی جائے گی انہو ںنے کہا کہ آصف زر داری نے معاملے کو بڑے اچھے طریقے اور مثبت انداز میں آگے بڑھایا ہے انہو ںنے کہا کہ دونوں طرف سے حوصلہ افزاء پیش رفت ہوئی ہے اور دونوں ہی ججز کی بحالی میں مخلص ہیں تاہم آصف علی زر داری نے میڈیا سے بات چیت کر نے سے انکار کر دیا اور کہا ہے کہ یہ دبئی ہے یہاں سیاست نہیں چلے گی تاہم ہمارے درمیاں ملاقات کا یہ سلسلہ ہمیشہ ہی جاری رہے گا جبکہ رحمان ملک اور فاروق ایچ نائیک نے بھی مذاکرات کو کامیاب قرار دیا ہے اور کہا کہ قوم کو مایوس نہیں کیا جائے گا رحمان ملک نے کہا کہ اعلان مری پر عملدر آمد کے سلسلے میں کوئی شک و شبہ نہیں ہے اور قوم بہت جلد خوشخبری سنے گی جبکہ وفاقی وزیر اطلاعات و نشریات نے کہا ہے کہ مذاکرات کامیاب ہوئے ہیں ججز بحال ہوں گے اور اتحادیوں ہی بر قرار رہے گا اور عوام کو جلد خوشخبری ملے گی

ججوں کی بحالی کی مدت ختم، مسلم لیگ ن کے وفاقی وزراء قائد کے اگلے حکم تک اپنے دفاتر میں نہیں جائیں گے ۔خواجہ سعد رفیق

لاہور ۔ پاکستان مسلم لیگ (ن) کے مرکزی رہنما و وفاقی وزیر برائے امور نوجوانان و ثقافت خواجہ سعد رفیق نے کہا ہے کہ اعلان مری کے تحت ججوں کی بحالی کیلئے مقرر کردہ تیس دن کی مدت ختم ہوگئی اب مسلم لیگ (ن) کے وفاقی کابینہ کے اراکین اپنے قائد میاں نوازشریف کے اگلے حکم تک اپنے دفاتر میں نہیں جائیں گے۔ مسلم لیگ (ن) آمروں کے خلاف اپنی مزاحمتی تحریک کو جاری رکھے گی۔ وزارتیں اور اسمبلیوں کی رکنیت ہمیں اصولوں کی سیاست سے نہیں روک سکتیں ۔ ہماری اتحادی جماعت پیپلز پارٹی اگر سمجھتی ہے کہ آئینی پیکج ضروری ہے تو اسے ججوں کی بحالی سے مشروط نہ کیا جائے۔ ان خیالات کا اظہار انہوں نے آج مسلم لیگ (ن) لیبر ونگ کے زیراہتمام یوم مئی کے حوالے سے ’’ لیبر کنونشن‘‘ سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے کیا ۔ کنونشن سے مسلم لیگ (ن) کے صوبائی صدر سردار ذوالفقار کھوسہ، صوبائی سیکرٹری جنرل راجہ اشفاق سرور، صوبائی وزراء ملک ندیم کامران، میاں مجتبیٰ شجاع الرحمن ، لیبر ونگ کے مرکزی صدر برجیس طاہر، مسلم لیگ (ن) لاہور کے صدر میاں مرغوب احمد ایم این اے اور رکن صوبائی اسمبلی ڈاکٹر سعید الٰہی نے بھی خطاب کیا۔ وفاقی وزیر برائے امور نوجوانان و ثقافت خواجہ سعد رفیق نے اپنی تقریر میں کہا کہ پہلے ہم صرف فکری اور نظریاتی مسلم لیگی تھے مگر گزشتہ آٹھ سال میں ظلم و تشدد برداشت کر کے ہم مزاحمتی مسلم لیگی اور کامریڈ بن گئے ہیں۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ مسلم لیگیوں نے پہلی بار ان آمروں کے خلاف بغاوت کی جنہوں نے پاکستان کو اپنی چراہ گاہ سمجھ رکھا تھا۔انہوں نے کہا کہ نواز شریف آج اصولوں پر عمل ہی کی وجہ سے پوری دنیا میں ستارے کی طرح چمک رہے ہیں وزارتیں اور اسمبلیوں کی رکنیت ہمیں اصولوں کی سیاست سے نہیں روک سکتیں ہم نے قوم سے عدلیہ بحال کرانے کا وعدہ کیا تھا انہوں نے کہا کہ حکمران اتحاد کی قیادت کا بیرون ملک جا کر مذاکرات کرنا عوام کو پسند نہیں آیا۔ مگر یہ حالات کی مجبوری تھی،میاںنواز شریف نے اپنی بیگم کے علاج کے لئے لندن جانا تھامگر وہ عوام اور جمہوریت کی خاطر علاج کی بجائے مذاکرات کے لئے دوبئی چلے گئے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ حکومت میں ہمارے اتحادی ماضی میں ہمیشہ مسلم لیگ کے حریف رہے ہیں مگر ہم نے ملک اورجمہوریت کی خاطر اتحاد کیا، لیکن آج وہ کہتے ہیں کہ عوام نے ججوں کی بحالی کا نہیں روٹی، کپڑے اور مکان کا مینڈیٹ دیا ہے، یہ قوم سے دغا ہے کیونکہ اعلان مری پر دونوں جماعتوں کی قیادت نے دستخط کئے تھے، آج اگر وہ سمجھتے ہیں کہ آئینی پیکج ضروری ہے تو اسے ججوں کی بحالی سے مشروط نہیں کیا جانا چاہئے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ مشرف اور ان کے حواری شب خون مارنے کے لئے تیار بیٹھے ہیں مگر انہیں اب سازشوں کا موقع نہیں ملے گا اور مشرف کو قانون کے کٹہرے میں آنا ہو گا۔ انہوں نے مزید کہا کہ ملکی صورتحال کے بارے میں ہم عوام سے کچھ نہیں چھپائیں گے ملک اس وقت چالیس ارب ڈالر کا مقروض ہے۔ لوڈشیڈنگ دس سال سے پہلے ختم نہیں ہو گی اور قیمتیں کم کرنے میں بھی چار سال لگیں گے مگر ہم مرد کے بچوں کی طرح ڈٹ کر کام کریں گے۔ مسلم لیگ (ن) پنجاب کے جنرل سیکرٹری راجہ اشفاق سرور نے کہا کہ ہم قیادت کے حکم کے منتظر ہیں اور اگر دوبارہ سڑکوں پر آنا پڑا تو گریز نہیں کریں گے۔ مسلم لیگ (ن) لیبر ونگ کے مرکزی صدر برجیس طاہر نے اپنی تقریر میں کہا کہ اسمبلی میں دو تہائی اکثریت پرویز مشرف کے خلاف ہے مگر وہ ڈھٹائی سے ایوان صدر میں بیٹھ کر جمہوریت کے خلاف سازشیں کراتے ہیں۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ گزشتہ آٹھ سال میں ملک کو کرپشن کا گڑھ بنا دیا گیا اور مزدوروں کا معاشی قتل عام کیا گیا موجودہ مشکل ترین صورت حال کو صرف مسلم لیگ اور نواز شریف ہی سنبھال سکتے ہیں۔

اٹھاون دو بی کو ختم کرنے پر بی باون طیارے کا استعمال ہو سکتا ہے ، مولانا فضل الرحمان

سترہویں ترمیم کی منظوری میں تعاون کرنے پر ہمیں طعنے دینے والی جماعتیں آج اسے ختم نہیں کر رہیںمعزول چیف جسٹس سمیت ججوں کی بحالی کے لئے دو بڑوں کے درمیان جنگ لڑی جا رہی ہے ،اتحاد کو خطرہ ہےافتخار محمد چوہدری وہ چیف جسٹس ہیں جنہوں نے دو دفعہ بے ضرر حسبہ بل کو مسترد کیااور دینی اسناد پر منتخب نمائندوں کو نا اہل قرار دیاججوں کی بحالی میں میثاق جمہوریت کو مد نظر رکھا جائے،جب ججوں کا معاملہ ان کے سامنے آئے گا تو اس پر سوچ بچار کی جائے گی،پشاور میں خطاب

پشاو ر۔ جمعیت علماء اسلام کے مرکزی امیر اور سابق قائد حزب اختلاف مولانا فضل الرحمان نے اتحادی جماعتوں کو متنبہ کیا ہے کہ اٹھاون دو بی ختم کرنے کی صورت میں صدر مشرف کی جانب سے بی باون طیارے کے استعمال ہونے کو رد نہیں کیا جا سکتا ۔ہمیں ہر قدم کو احتیاط کے ساتھ اٹھا کر آگے بڑھنا ہو گا ۔سترہویں ترمیم کا طعنہ دینے والی جماعتیں آج خود اقتدار میں ہیں مگر وہ دو تہائی اکثریت رکھنے کے باوجود سترہویں ترمیم کو ختم کرنے کے لئے تیار نہیں اور وہ اس کو برقرار رکھنا چاہتی ہیں ۔اب ان جماعتوں کا موقف ہے کہ اگر سترہویں ترمیم کو ختم کیاگیا تو اٹھارہ سال کے ووٹر ،خواتین اور اقلیتوں کی مخصوص نشستوں اور نئی حلقہ بندیوں کا کیا بنے گا ۔ہمارے سامنے بھی یہ ترجیحات تھیں اس لئے سترہویں ترمیم کی منظوری میں تعاون کیا ۔وہ پشاور کے محکمہ اوقاف کے مولانا حسین جان شہید ہال میں جمعیت علماء اسلام صوبہ سرحد کے زیر اہتمام علماء کانفرنس سے خطاب کر رہے تھے ۔مولانا فضل الرحمان نے کہا کہ آج دو بڑی جماعتوں پیپلز پارٹی اور مسلم لیگ(ن)کے درمیان عدلیہ کی آزادی اور معزول ججوں کی بحالی پر لڑائی لڑی جا رہی ہے ۔ایک جماعت کے نزدیک معزول چیف جسٹس افتخار محمد چوہدری کی بحالی کو عدلیہ کی بحالی تصور کیا جا رہا ہے اور آج ضیاء الحق کی یاد کو تازہ کیاجا رہا ہے جس میں انہوں نے کہا تھا کہ جو ان کو تسلیم کرتے ہیں وہ اسلام چاہتے ہیں اور جو ان کو تسلیم نہیں کرتے وہ اسلام نہیں چاہتے آج وہی صورتحال بن رہی ہے اور اگر افتخار محمد چوہدری بحال ہو جاتے ہیں تو اس کو عدلیہ کی آزادی تصور کیا جا رہا ہے مگر حقائق اس کے برعکس ہیں ۔ادارے شخصیات کے محتاج نہیں تاہم ان کے نزدیک شخصیات کا احترام ہے ۔انہوں نے مطالبہ کیا کہ اگر معزول ججوں کو بحال کرنا ہے تو میثاق جمہوریت کو سامنے رکھا جائے جس میں پیپلز پارٹی اور مسلم لیگ(ن)نے چودہ مئی 2006ء کو دستخط کئے ہیں اس میثاق جمہوریت میں واضح طور پر لکھا گیا ہے کہ ججوں کی تقرری پارلیمنٹ کے ارکان پر مشتمل ایک کمیشن کرے گا اور ایسے ججوں کی نامزدگی نہیں کی جائے گی جنہوں نے پی سی او کے تحت حلف لیا ہو اور عدلیہ میں ایسے جج لئے جائیں گے جنہوں نے کبھی بھی پی سی او کے تحت حلف نہ لیا ہو موجودہ معزول چیف جسٹس اور ججوں نے میاں محمد نواز شریف کی حکومت ختم ہونے کے بعد صدر مشرف کے پی سی او کے تحت 2001ء میں حلف لیا تھا ۔اگر ججوں کو بحال کرنا ہے تو میثاق جمہوریت کو سامنے رکھا جائے ۔مولانا فضل الرحمان نے کہا کہ ججوں کی بحالی پر جو جنگ لڑی جا رہی ہے اس سے اتحاد کو خطرہ ہے اعلان مری کے ساتھ ساتھ میثاق جمہوریت پر بھی عمل درآمد کیا جائے ۔انہوں نے کہا کہ انتخابات سے قبل تمام سیاسی جماعتوں کے اپنے منشور اور ایجنڈے تھے اب جمہوری قوتیں متحد ہوئی ہیں اور ان کی مخلوط حکومت بنی ہے لہذا ہمیں اپنے ذاتی ایجنڈے کو بالائے طاق رکھ کر آگے بڑھنا ہو گا اور ہمیں یکجہتی اور لچک دکھانی ہو گی تاکہ اس یکجہتی کو برقرار رکھا جا سکے ۔مولانا فضل الرحمان نے کہا کہ اب ججوں کی بحالی کا معاملہ دو بڑوں کے درمیان ہے جب معاملہ ان کے پاس آئے گا تو اس پر سوچ بچار کے بعد فیصلہ کیا جائے گا ۔مولانا فضل الرحمان نے کہا کہ معزول ججوں پر مشتمل سپریم کورٹ نے ایم ایم اے کو ڈسا ہے ۔یہی سپریم کورٹ تھی جس نے بے ضرر حسبہ بل کو دو دفعہ مسترد کیا اور اس کے خلاف پٹیشن منظور کی ۔ایک دفعہ صدر مشرف نے خود حسبہ بل کے خلاف پٹیشن دائر کی ۔انہوں نے کہا کہ یہ وہی سپریم کورٹ ہے جس نے ایم ایم اے سے تعلق رکھنے والے منتخب ناظمین اور نائب ناظمین کی دینی اسناد پر کامیابی کو ناکامی میں تبدیل کر کے دینی اسناد پر کامیاب ہونے والوں کو نا اہل قرار دیا ۔انہوں نے کہا کہ یہ وہی سپریم کورٹ ہے جس کے سامنے قومی اسمبلی اور سینٹ کے ارکان کی دینی اسناد کا معاملہ لایاگیا اور وہی سپریم کورٹ ایم ایم اے سے تعلق رکھنے والے ارکان پارلیمنٹ کو بارہ مارچ کو نا اہل قرار دینے والی تھی مگر نو مارچ کو چیف جسٹس کے خلاف ریفرنس آیا جس کے باعث معاملہ لٹک گیا اور فیصلہ نہیں ہوا ۔جب چیف جسٹس بحال ہوئے تو وہ دوبارہ دینی اسناد پر کامیاب ہونے والے ارکان پارلیمنٹ کو نا اہل قرار دینے والے تھے مگر تین نومبر کو ججوں کو گھر بجھوا دیا گیا ۔انہوں نے کہا کہ تمام اختلافات کے باوجود جب نو مارچ کو چیف جسٹس کے خلاف ریفرنس سپریم جوڈیشل کونسل کو بجھوایاگیا تو جمعیت علماء اسلام کے قائدین اور کارکن سڑکوں پر نکل آئے اور چیف جسٹس کا ساتھ دیا ۔مولانا فضل الرحمان نے کہا کہ عام انتخابات کا قاضی حسین احمد کی جانب سے بائیکاٹ کا فیصلہ غلط ثابت ہوا کیونکہ بائیکاٹ کے باوجود عوام نے اس پر توجہ نہیں دی اور انتخابات کے جو نتائج سامنے آئے اس کے نتیجے میں قاضی حسین احمد نہ احتجاج کر سکتے ہیں اور نہ ہی ان کے پاس کوئی دوسرا راستہ ہے ۔ان کے بائیکاٹ کے باعث ایم ایم اے کو نقصان پہنچا یہی وجہ ہے کہ عام انتخابات میں جمعیت علماء اسلام کے 35امیدوار چند سو ووٹوں پر کامیابی سے محروم رہ گئے ۔اگر قاضی حسین احمد بائیکاٹ نہ کرتے تو صوبے میں دوبارہ متحدہ مجلس عمل کی حکومت بن جاتی ۔انہوں نے کہا کہ صوبہ سرحد میں بائیس نشستوں پر ہمارے امیدواروں دوسرے نمبر پر آئے ۔اب صوبہ سرحد میں جمعیت علماء اسلام ایک مضبوط قوت بن کر مد مقابل آگئی اور اب صوبہ سرحد میں یا جمعیت علماء اسلام کی حکومت ہو گی یا مخالف جماعتوں کی ۔مولانا فضل الرحمان نے کہا کہ قومی حکومت کی حمایت کا فیصلہ مشاورت کے بعد کیاگیا اور حکومت میں شامل ہونے سے قبل ہم نے اپنی ترجیحات آصف علی زرداری کے سامنے رکھ دیں جن میں اسلامی نظریاتی کونسل کی سفارشات کو اسمبلی میں پیش کرنا،خارجہ پالیسی پر نظر ثانی کرنا،صوبوں کو صوبائی خود مختاری دینا،مذہبی رہنماؤں کی رہائی،لال مسجد اور جامعہ حفصہ سمیت تمام ترجیحات ان کے سامنے رکھ کر حکومت میں شمولیت اختیار کی ۔اب ہماری شمولیت کے خلاف منفی پروپیگنڈہ کیا جا رہا ہے اور یہ کہا جا رہا ہے کہ مولانا حکومت سے باہر نہیں رہ سکتے ۔انہوں نے کہا کہ جب قومی اسمبلی میں اسفندیار ولی خان نے اختر مینگل اور بخش مری کی رہائی کی بات کی اور جب انہوں نے موقف اختیار کیا کہ اگر امریکہ سے بات چیت ہو سکتی ہے تو اختر مینگل سے بات چیت کیوں نہیں ہو سکتی تو اس دوران میں نے موقف اختیار کیا کہ اگر امریکہ سے بات ہو سکتی ہے اور اختر مینگل سے مذاکرات کئے جا سکتے ہیں تو مذہبی رہنماؤں کے ساتھ مذاکرات کیوں نہیں کیے جا سکتے ۔انہوں نے کہا کہ ہماری مفاہمت کی وجہ سے مذہبی رہنماؤں کی رہائی عمل میں لائی گئی اور لائی جا رہی ہے مگر اس کا کریڈٹ جمعیت علماء اسلام کو نہیں دیا جا رہا ہے بلکہ صوبائی حکومت میں شامل ایک جماعت اس کا کریڈٹ لینے کی کوشش کر رہی ہے ۔مولانا فضل الرحمان نے کہا کہ جب صوفی محمد کو رہا کیا جا رہا تھا تو اسی وقت ایجنسیوں نے ویڈیو ٹیپ ریلیز کی جس میں موقف اختیار کیا گیا کہ افغانستان میں پاکستان کے سفیر طارق عزیز الدین کو اس وقت رہا کیا جائے گا جب صوفی محمد ،مولانا عبد العزیز اور بے نظیر قتل کیس میں ملوث ملزمان کو رہا نہیں کیا جا تا ۔صوفی محمد کی رہائی کے کریڈٹ کو جے یو آئی کو نہیں دیا گیا بلکہ اس ویڈیو ٹیپ کے ذریعے ہمارے کریڈٹ کو ضائع کرنے کی کوشش کی گئی ۔مولانا فضل الرحمان نے کہا کہ عام انتخابات سے قبل اسمبلیوں سے استعفے دینے کا فیصلہ غلط تھا اور استعفوں کے مسئلے پر ہمارا موقف درست ثابت ہوا ۔مگر استعفوں کے معاملے کو بھی جمعیت علماء اسلام کے خلاف منفی پروپیگندے کے طور پر استعمال کیاگیا ۔مولانا فضل الرحمان نے کہا کہ ہماری موثر حکمت عملی اور مضبوط موقف کی وجہ سے عسکریت پسندوں سے مذاکرات کئے گئے اور کئے جا رہے ہیں ۔اسمبلی کے فلور پر ان کا موقف تھا کہ طاقت سے کوئی مسئلہ حل نہیں ہو سکتا لہذا مذاکرات کی راہ اپنائی جائے ان کے موقف کو تسلیم کیاگیا جس کے نتیجے میں مذاکرات کئے گئے اور دونوں جانب سے مذاکرات کا خیر مقدم کیاگیا جب سرحد میں ایم ایم اے کی حکومت تھی تو اس وقت جب ہم مذاکرات کی بات کرتے تھے تو ان کے خلاف یہ پروپیگنڈہ کیا جا رہا تھا کہ عسکریت پسندوں کو مضبوط کیا جا رہا ہے اب موجودہ حکومت میں مذاکرات کو اولیت دی گئی اور موقف اختیار کیا جا رہا ہے کہ گولی سے مسائل حل نہیں ہوتے لہذا مذاکرات اور جرگے کئے جا رہے ہیں ۔جب ہم جرگے اور مذاکرات کی بات کرتے تھے تو ہم پر الزامات کی بوچھاڑ کی گئی اب جب وہ خود جرگے اور مذاکرات کر رہے ہیں تو اس کو مفاہمت کا نام دیا جا رہا ہے ۔مولانا فضل الرحمان نے کہا کہ ایک سوچے سمجھے منصوبے کے تحت ہمارے خلاف منفی پروپیگنڈہ کیا جا رہا ہے اور ہم نے امریکہ پر بھی یہ واضح کر دیا ہے کہ طاقت سے کوئی مسئلہ حل نہیں ہوتا لہذا مفاہمت اور مذاکرات کی راہ اپنائی جائے ۔جب ہم نے جنوبی ،شمالی وزیرستان اور سوات میں مذاکرات کئے اور جب ہم نے موقف اختیار کیا کہ فوج کو واپس بلایا جائے تو اس کو ہمارے خلاف ہتھیار کے طور پر استعمال کیاگیا اور ہماری کردار کشی کی گئی ۔آج ہمارے موقف کو اپنایا جا رہا ہے ۔مولانا فضل الرحمان نے کہا کہ جب ہم نے موقف اختیار کیا کہ خود کش حملوں کی روش ترک کرنی چاہیے کیونکہ اس سے مذہبی قوتوں اور اسلام کو نقصان پہنچ رہا ہے تو اس کو بھی ہمارے خلاف استعمال کیاگیا اور انتخابات میں ہمارے خلاف سازشیں شروع ہوئیں ۔انہوں نے کہا کہ عالمی استعماریت کی ہم مذمت کرتے ہیں اور ہم امریکہ پر یہ واضح کر دینا چاہتے ہیں کہ وہ اپنی سوچ بدل دے اور طاقت سے اپنے مقاصد حاصل کرنے کی کوشش نہ کرے ۔انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم نے کبھی بھی جہاد سے انکار نہیں کیا اور جہاد سے انکار دائرہ اسلام سے خارج ہونے کے سوا کچھ نہیں مگر ہمارے خلاف ایک سوچے سمجھے منصوبے کے تحت پروپیگنڈہ کیا گیا کہ جے یو آئی جہاد کے خلاف ہے ۔مولانا فضل الرحمان نے کہا کہ آج علاقائی اور مقامی جنگیں نہیں لڑی جا رہی ہیں بلکہ اب عالمی جنگیں لڑی جا رہی ہیں ۔امریکہ سے لیکر جے ایچ کیو اور اسٹیبلشمنٹ تک سب ایک ہیں اور سب علماء کے خلاف بد اعتمادی پیدا کر رہے ہیں ۔علماء کے اچھے کاموں کو چھپایا جا رہا ہے جبکہ ان کی کمزوریوں کو اچھالا جا رہا ہے ۔آج کتنے لوگ پہاڑوں میں بندوق لیکر لڑ رہے ہیں ۔ان لوگوں سے مذاکرات کر کے ان سے ہتھیار پھینکنے کی بات کی جا سکتی ہے ۔جو لوگ جام شہادت نوش کرتے ہیں ان کو دہشت گرد کہا جا رہا ہے انگریزوں کے دور میں بھی مجاہدین کو شر پسند اور دہشت گرد کے نام دیئے جاتے رہے ۔انہوں نے کہا کہ آج دینا کی سپر طاقت اور مغربی قوتوں کو سب سے زیادہ خطرہ دینی مدارس سے ہے اور وہ طالبان کو اپنے لئے خطرہ سمجھتے ہیں ۔کسی زمانے میں یہ دینی مدارس اور ان طلباء کی ان کی نظر میں کوئی حیثیت نہیں تھی اور دو سو سال قبل وہ ان کو کچھ نہیں سمجھتے تھے ۔آج وہ اپنے لئے خطرہ سمجھ رہے ہیں ۔

آصف علی زرداری او نواز شریف کے درمیان مثبت طو ر پر مذاکرات اختتام پذیر ہوئے ۔ وفاقی وزیر اطلاعات و نشریات شیری رحمن

اسلام آباد ۔ وفاقی وزیر اطلاعات و نشریات شیری رحمان نے کہا ہے کہ آصف علی زرداری اور نواز شریف کے درمیان مذاکرات مثبت طور پر اختتام پذیر ہوئے ہیں آصف علی زرداری نے مذاکرات سے واک آؤٹ نہیں کیا تھا ۔ ایک انٹرویو میں وفاقی وزیر اطلاعات و نشریات نے کہاکہ معاملات خوش اسلوبی سے آگے بڑھیں گے انہوں نے کہا کہ مذاکراتی ادوار خوشگوار ماحول میں ہوئے اور مثبت طریقے سے اختتام پذیر ہوئے انہوں نے کہاکہ حکمران اتحاد برقرار رہے گا اور ججز بھی بحال ہوں گے۔

دوبئی مذاکرات کی کامیابی سے ایوان صدر کی سازشیں ناکام ہو گئیں ۔شہباز شریف

دوبئی ۔ پاکستان مسلم لیگ ن کے صدر میاں شہباز شریف نے کہا ہے کہ دوبئی میں ہو نے والے مذاکرات کی کامیابی سے ایوان صدر میں ہو نے والے سازشیں ناکام ہو گئی ہیں ایک نجی ٹی وی سے گفتگو کر تے ہوئے انہو ںنے کہا کہ دونوں رہنماؤں کے درمیان ہو نے والے مذاکرات کے تینوں دور انتہائی کامیابی سے ہوئے ہیں اور دونوں رہنماؤں نے انتہائی دانشمندی اور سیاسی بصیرت کا مظاہرہ کیا ہے اور مذاکرات انتہائی خوشگوار ماحول میں ہوئے ہیں مذاکرات کی کامیابی کے لئے دونوں رہنماؤں نے بھرپور کر دار ادا کیا ہے انہوں نے کہا کہ ججز ضرور بحال ہوں گے اور اعلان مری کے مطابق ہی ہوں گے ایوان صدر کی سازشیں دم توڑ جائیں گی ججز بھی بحال ہوں گے اور اتحاد بھی بر قرار رہے گا انہوں نے کہا کہ ججز کی بحالی عوام امنگوں کے مطابق ہو گی عوام جلد خوشخبری سنیں گے۔

عمران خان نے آصف علی زرداری کو این اے ٥٥ سے ضمنی الیکشن لڑنے کا چیلنج کردیا

اسلام آباد ۔ پاکستان تحریک انصاف کے سربراہ عمران خان نے پاکستان پیپلز پارٹی کے شریک چیئرمین آصف علی زرداری کو چیلنج کیا وہ عدلیہ کی بحالی کے بارے میں عوامی مینڈیٹ جانچنے کیلئے قومی اسمبلی کے حلقہ این اے55 سے ضمنی الیکشن میں ان کے مقابلے میں الیکشن لڑیں ۔ ایک نجی ٹی وی سے بات چیت کرتے ہوئے عمران خان نے کہاکہ عدلیہ کی بحالی کے ایشو کے حوالے سے ڈس انفارمیشن پھیلائی جارہی ہے اور یہ تاثر دیا جارہاہے کہ انتخابات میں عدلیہ ایشو نہیں تھا۔ بلکہ روٹی ، کپڑا اور مکان ایشو تھے عمران خان نے کہاکہ ضمنی انتخابات میں بھی اس معاملے کو جانچ سکتے ہیں اس بارے میں ضمنی انتخابات کو ریفرنڈم سمجھا جائے اور ضمنی انتخابات میں صرف عدلیہ کے ایشو کو اٹھائے کہ کیا آپ عدلیہ کی بحالی چاہتے ہیں کہ نہیں چاہتے ۔ اس ایشو کو لیکر الیکشن لڑیں میں آپ کو گارنٹی دیتا ہوں کہ پاکستانی قوم کی جو خواہش اور چاہت وہ سامنے آجائے گی کیونکہ گیلپ سروے کے مطابق ملک کے 81فیصد عوام چیف جسٹس اور عدلیہ کی بحالی چاہتے ہیں ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم نے انتخابات کا بائیکاٹ اس لئے کیا کہ جہاں آمر نے عدلیہ کو برطرف کر ے 60فیصد ججز کو نکال دیں چیف جسٹس اور ججز کو نظر بند کردیا اور اپنے ججز رکھ کر پی سی او کے تحت انتخاب کرادیا یہ کیسے منصفانہ ہو سکتے ہیں ظاہر ہے اس قسم کے انتخابات کا تو ہمیشہ بائیکاٹ کیا جائے گا ۔ لیکن ضمنی انتخابات پاکستان کی سیاست کے لئے خاص موقع ہے ۔ آصف علی زرداری اگر یہ کہتے ہیں کہ عدلیہ ایشو نہیں تھا تو ضمنی انتخاب جانچنے کا بہترین موقع ہے ۔انہوں نے واضح بھی کیا کہ ججز بحال نہ ہو تو ملک کی بیشتر سیاسی جماعتیں پیپلز پارٹی کی حکومت کے خلاف تحریک چلائیں گی

پی سی او کے تحت حلف نہ لینے کا فیصلہ درست تھا ۔معزول چیف جسٹس افتخار محمد چوہدری

پشاور ۔ سپریم کورٹ آف پاکستان کے معزول چیف جسٹس افتخار محمد چوہدری نے کہا ہے کہ ہم نے تین نومبر کو پی سی او کے تحت حلف نہ لینے کا جو فیصلہ کیا اس سے ہم مطمئن ہیں اور ہم نے ایک درست فیصلہ کیا ہے جن ججوں کو برطرف کیاگیا ہے اس کی کوئی آئینی حیثیت نہیں اور یہ غیر آئینی اقدام اٹھایاگیا ۔وہ پشاور کے وکلاء کے پچیس رکنی وفد سے بات چیت کر رہے تھے ۔وفد کی قیادت پشاور بار کے جنرل سیکرٹری یاسر خٹک اور ہائیکورٹ بار کے سابق صدر میاں عتیق شاہ کر رہے تھے ۔وفد میں شاہ فیصل عثمان خیل ،بابر خان یوسفزئی اور ضیاء الحسن بھی شامل تھے ۔وفد نے معزول ججوں ،جسٹس سردار محمد رضا خان اور جسٹس میاں شاکر اللہ جان سے بھی ججز کالونی اسلام آباد میں ملاقات کی ۔اس موقع پر معزول چیف جسٹس نے صوبہ سرحد کے وکلاء سمیت چاروں صوبوں کے وکلاء کے کردار کو سراہا اور موقف اختیار کیا ان کی وجہ سے آزاد عدلیہ کے قیام عمل میں آئے گا۔ اس موقع پر صوبہ سرحد کے وکلاء نے انہیں یقین دلایا کہ وہ ان کے ساتھ ہیں اور وہ دبئی کے مذاکرات کے منتظر ہیں ۔مذاکرات کے نتائج سامنے آنے کے بعد لائحہ عمل کا اعلان کیا جائے گا ۔انہوں نے کہا کہ سپریم کورٹ بار کے صدر اعتزاز احسن نے انہیں اس وقت تک خاموش رہنے کا کہا ہے جب تک دبئی مذاکرات کے نتائج سامنے نہیں آتے ۔پشاور کے وکلاء کی موجودگی کے وقت پشاور بار کے صدر فضل الرحمان خان نے معزول چیف جسٹس اور دیگر ججوں سے فون پر بات چیت کی اور انہیں ہر ممکن تعاون کا یقین دلایا ۔انہوں نے کہا کہ وہ علیل ہیں اس لئے وہ اسلام آباد نہیں آسکے ۔

دنیا بھر کی طرح پاکستان میں بھی مزدوروں کا عالمی دن منایا گیا

اسلام آباد ۔دنیا بھر کی طرح پاکستان میں بھی مزدوروں کا عالمی دن منایا گیا اور یکم مئی اٹھارہ سو چھیاسی کو امریکا کے شہر شکاگو میں محنت کشوں نے اپنے حقوق کے لئے جدوجہد کا آغاز کیا تو ان کے ہاتھوں میں سفید جھنڈوں کو ان ہی کے خون سے سرخ کر دیا گیا لیکن اس کے نتیجے میں عالمی سطح پر محنت کشوں کے زیادہ سے زیادہ اوقات کار روزانہ آٹھ گھنٹے تک محدود کر دیئے گئے۔ ایک خصوصی سروے کے مطابق پاکستان میں مجموعی طور پر پانچ کروڑ بیس لاکھ افراد پر مشتمل لیبر فورس میں سے بیالیس لاکھ محنت کش صنعتی شعبے سے وابستہ ہیں۔ ایک کروڑ کے لگ بھگ خواتین زرعی شعبے میں کام کررہی ہیں۔ نئی حکومت کا عزم ہے کہ وہ ٹریڈ یونین کی بحالی کے ساتھ مزدوروں کے حقوق کا تحفظ کرے گی۔فوجی سربراہ جنرل یحی خان کے دور میں جاری کئے گئے صنعتی تعلقات آرڈی نینس انیس سو انہتر میں پچھلے برسوں کے دوران ترامیم کے تحت ریلوے اور بنکس سمیت کئی اداروں میں ٹریڈ یونین سرگرمیاں محدود کر دی گئیں۔ محنت کشوں کا خیال ہے کہ نجکاری اور دیگر پالیسیوں سے بے روزگاری میں اضافے کے علاوہ کئی سنگین مسائل نے جنم لیالیکن نئی حکومت کے اعلانات حوصلہ افزاء ہیں۔پاکستان میں محنت کشوں کو اشیائے خوراک کی بیس فیصد مہنگائی کا سامنا ہے اور پچیس فیصد غریب خاندان ایک کمرے کے بوسیدہ گھروں میں رہائش پذیر ہیں۔بتیس لاکھ سے زائد شہری بے روزگار ہیں اور چھیالیس سو روپے کم از کم اجرت کے قانون پر عمل درآمد کا وعدہ بھی عملاً ثابت نہیں ہوسکا۔ آئی آر او دو ہزار دو کے تحت زیادہ سے زیادہ اوقات کار بھی آٹھ گھنٹے سے بڑھا کر بارہ گھنٹے کر دیئے گئے۔ خواتین محنت کشوں کی صورت حال اور بھی خراب ہے جن کو مرد مزدوروں کے مقابلے میں اجرت بھی تقریباً آدھی ادا کی جاتی ہے۔

خیبر ایجنسی میں خود کش دھما کہ ، ١٠ افراد جاں بحق ہو گئے

پشاور ۔ خیبر ایجنسی کی تحصیل باڑہ میں مذہبی تنظیم امر بالمعروف و نہی المنکر کے دفتر میں خود کش دھماکہ ہوا جس کے نتیجے میں کم از کم 10 افراد ہلاک اور 23 شدید زخمی ہو گئے ۔ زخمیوں میں سے بعض کی حالت نازک ہے اور ہلاکتوں میں اضافے کا خدشہ ہے ۔ تفصیلات کے مطابق آج جمعرات کی صبح دفتر کے باہر تنظیم کے کارکن جمع تھے کہ ایک خود کش حملہ آور نے خود کو دھماکے سے اڑا دیا جس کے نتیجے میں حملہ آور ہلاک ہو گیا ۔ ابتدائی اطلاعات کے مطابق دھماکہ میں 10 افراد ہلاک ہوئے جبکہ جبکہ 23 افراد شدید زخمی ہوئے ہیں جن میں سے پانچ کی حالت تشویشناک ہے ۔ زخمیوں کو پشاور منتقل کر دیاگیا ہے اور ہلاکتوں میں اضافے کا خدشہ ہے ۔ تنظیم کے ترجمان کے مطابق خود کش حملہ آور کا ہدف تنظیم کے امیر حاجی نامدار تھے لیکن وہ اس حملے میں محفوظ رہے ۔ ترجمان کے مطابق حملہ آور کی عمر 17 سے 18 سال کے درمیان تھی زخمیوں کو پشاور کے ہسپتال منتقل کر دیاگیا

اسلام آباد ۔ وفاقی حکومت نے نئی لیبر پالیسی کا اعلان کر دیاہے ۔ جسکے مطابق ملازمین کو ملنے والی 1500 روپے کی پنشن کو 2000 روپے کر دیاگیا ہے۔ سول سیکیورٹی اور بڑھاپا فنڈ کو بڑھا دیاگیا ہے گزارہ الاؤنس 50 فیصد سے بڑھا کر 100 فیصد کر دیاگیا ہے۔ ورکرز ویلفےئرز فنڈ 18000 سے بڑھا کر 24000 کر دیا گیا ہے۔ نئی پالیسی کے مطابق مزدوروں کی بچیوں کے لیے جہیز فنڈ کے حصول کے لیے ہونے والی قرعہ اندازی ختم کر دی گئی ہے ۔ 80,000 رہائشی فلیٹس مزدوروں کے لیے بنائے جائیں گے جو مزدوروں کو مالکانہ حقوق پر دئیے جائیں گے پنجاب میں کوارٹرز میں رہنے والے مزدوروں کو بھی مالکانہ حقوق دئیے جائیں گے۔ ہر بڑے شہر میں مزدوروں کے لیے ایک ہسپتال اور ہر ضلع کی سطح پر مزدوروں کے بچوں کے لیے سکول بنائے جائیں گے۔ جبکہ ہر بڑے سکول کو کالج میں تبدیل کر دیا جائے گا جہاں مزدوروں کے بچوں کو مفت تعلیم دی جائے گی ۔ لیبر پالیسی کا اعلان وفاقی وزیر محنت و افرادی قوت سید خورشید شاہ کے اسلام آباد میں مزدوروں کے عالمی دن کے موقع پر ہونے والی تقریب سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے کیا۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم تمام کنٹریکٹ ملازمین کو مستقل کرنا چاہتے ہیں اور مزدوروں کی کم سے کم اجرت کو 4500 سے بڑھا کر 6000 روپے کر دیا گیا ہے لیکن آپ یہ نہ سمجھیں کہ کل سے ہی مزدوروں کو 6000 روپے ملنا شروع ہو جائیں گے بلکہ اس کے لیے ہمارے راستے میں کئی رکاوٹیں آئیں گی جن کو آپ اور ہم نے مل کر دور کرنا ہے ۔انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم اخباری ملازمین کی جدوجہد میں بھی ان کے ساتھ ہیں اور ہماری کوشش ہو گی کہ ویج بورڈ ایوارڈ میں کامیاب ہو جائیں ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ یہ اگر میرے اور شیری رحمان کے ہوتے ہوئے نہ ہو سکا تو پھر کبھی نہیں ہو سکے گا ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم جبری برطرفی کے آرڈیننس کو بھی ختم کرتے ہیں ۔ انہوں نے کہاکہ آج دکھ کادن ہے کہ مزدوروں کے حقوق کی جدوجہد کرنے والی بی بی شہید بے نظیر بھٹو آج ہم میں موجود نہیں ہیں لیکن ہمیں ان کی جدوجہد کو آگے بڑھانا ہے جس میں ہمیں قدم قدم پر مزدوروں کی حمایت کی ضرورت پڑے گی ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم سے پہلی حکومت نے ملک کا سٹرکچر معیشت اور زراعت سب کچھ تباہ کر دیا ہے اور بہتری چھ ماہ یا ایک سال میں ہی ممکن نہیں ہے بلکہ اس کو وقت لگے گا ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم قرضے لے کر خود ہڑپ نہیں کریں گے بلکہ اس کو غریب کے پیٹ میں ڈالیں گے تاکہ غریب خوشحال ہو سکے اس میں ملک کی خوشحالی ہے ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ میرے قائد ذوالفقار علی بھٹو اور ان کی شہید بیٹی نے بھی مزدوروں کی سیاست کی وہ مزدوروں کو ان کا حق دینا چاہتے تھے ۔

WKFM Pledged Unwavering Support to the People of Kashmir

London: The Governing Council (GC) of the World Kashmir Freedom Movement (WKFM) concluded its annual conference at the British House of Lords. The speakers called upon the international community to provide their full moral, diplomatic and political support to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The GC members from across Europe, North America and both sides of the Cease Fire Line gathered for 4 days to review developments regarding the State of Jammu and Kashmir. GC members included: Dr. Ghulam N. Mir, Ghulam Nabi Fai, Mr. Nazir A. Qureishi, Ali Shahnawaz Khan, Prof. Nazir A. Shawl, Prof. Shamima Shawl, Mr. Sareer A. Fazili, Esq, Dr. M. A. Dar, Mr. Mohammad. Ghalib, Dr. Riaz Mahmood, Mr. Muzzammil Thakur. The WKFM reiterated its commitment to the Kashmiri people and pledged unwavering support until the final resolution is sought in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of the people of the State of Jammu and Kashmir.It was affirmed that no agreement or understanding contrary to the wishes and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir would be acceptable. The participants called for the inclusion and equal participation of the legitimate Kashmiri leadership in any talks concerning the future and ultimate disposition of the state.The participants condemned the recent discovery of mass graves in Baramulla, Kashmir, and called upon Amnesty International and all like minded Human Rights organizations, governments and people of conscience to launch an immediate probe into this grisly practice. The delegates considered this an exacerbation of India’s unfortunate history of human rights violations in the state despite Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s promise of “zero tolerance” for such abuses. The conference called for an immediate halt to human rights violations by the Indian occupational forces, unconditional release of all Kashmiri political prisoners, abrogation of the draconian and repressive laws, restoration of the freedom of speech, assembly and communication as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to which India is a signatory.
The conference declared that elections in Indian occupied Kashmir could not be a substitute to the referendum promised by successive United Nations resolutions guaranteeing Kashmiris the right to decide their future. It questioned the legitimacy of any farce elections in the state.The speakers included: Amb. Free flow of information to be ensured: Gilani

ISLAMABAD : Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that the new democratic set up believes in the freedom of media and every possible effort would be made to ensure free flow of information to the masses through print and electronic media.In a meeting Thursday at the Prime Minister House with information minister Sherry Rehman, Prime Minister Gilani discussed matters relating to the media and the wage board award.
The subject of establishing journalist victim fund also came under discussion. Sherry Rehman, updated the Prime Minister about the working of her Ministry.
She informed him of the steps taken so far to ensure freedom of media and efforts made to facilitate the journalists to perform their professional assignments.

PPP Co-Chairman expresses solidarity with workers on May Day

ISLAMABAD : Co-Chairman Pakistan of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Asif Ali Zardari said that the party would not abandon the labour, the peasants, the fisher folks and the wage earners in their struggle for emancipation and freeing themselves from the shackles of exploitation.
In a message on May Day he said that the PPP had always supported the causes of the workers and would continue to support them in their struggle for their rights.
He said that the PPP had always derived its strength from the working classes of Pakistan and it had always fought for their rights and will continue to do so in the future as well.
He said that the Prime Minister had already announced in his first speech that the anti-labour legislations including the IRO 2002 and other anti labour legislation would be reviewed by the Parliament and the rights of the workers restored.
Senator Asif Ali Zardari also deplored that the previous regime had thrown out of jobs thousands of poor people from different organizations in the name of downsizing and rightsizing. He said that as promised by the Party the cases of retrenched workers in different organizations would be reviewed by the government and an effort made to reinstate the sacked employees.
He also directed the labour wing, of the Party, People’s Labour Bureau to hold meetings and rallies to highlight the labour issues and express the Party’s solidarity with the working classes.
The PPP Co-Chairman also paid rich tribute to the Chicago martyrs for their struggle against oppressive socio-economic system a century ago. Their sacrifices and courage awakened the workers and kindled the labour movements in many countries of the world, he said.

Govt taking short, long-term measures to check price-hike: PM

ISLAMABAD : Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Thursday said the government was taking short-term as well as long-term measures to arrest the price-hike, particularly of the essential commodities. “There was a global trend of increase in the prices of food items, but we are taking all possible measures to check this trend by introducing and implementing the short and long-term measures and policies”, he told the newsmen after visiting the Metro - Cash and Carry departmental store here.
The Prime Minister was appreciative of the Metro’s Cash and Carry concept and said the opening of more such stores will help provide quality consumer goods and essential daily use items of international standard on reasonable prices to people.
He said the opening of Metro stores in Pakistan will also help attract investment in the country and create more job opportunities and check unemployment.
The Prime Minister, who was received by James Scott, Regional Operation Officer Metro Group upon arrival at the Metro, visited various sections of the store and took keen interest in the goods placed there and also asked questions.
The Prime Minister was informed that Metro is investing over Rs 20 billion to open ten Cash and Carry stores in various cities of Pakistan including Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Faisalabad by the end of current year.
He was apprised that the Metro Cash and Carry, which offers all types of consumers items including food, beverages, meat and household and professional goods, provides its services to retailers and small businesses.
The Prime Minister was further informed that shopping from Metro Cash and Carry requires a membership card to enter the store, with children under 12 not allowed in the store.
Member National Assemly Farzana Raja also accompanied the prime minister.

Sherry assures resolution of newspapers employees’ problems

ISLAMABAD : Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ms. Sherry Rehman Thursday assured newspapers’ employees that government would utilize all its energies to address their problems and ensure provision of their rights. Addressing a seminar, she said PPP government is peoples’ government and it would review country’s existing labour laws to bring them in conformity with international standards.
The Seminar entitled “Destiny of Newspaper Employees in Democratic Government: When will change come,” was organized here by All Pakistan Newspaper Employees Confederation (APNEC) in connection with International Labour Day.
“Pakistan Peoples Party had always raised voice for workers rights and welfare and now present coalition regime would leave no stone unturned in ensuring their rights,” she added.
She said a summary on Special Fund for Journalist who lose their lives in line of duty has already been sent to the cabinet for approval.
The minister said it is PPP led coalition government which has fulfilled the promise of repealing black PEMRA laws through parliament, adding that “We want a strong parliament, an independent judiciary and a prosperous Pakistan.”
Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Sherry Rehman said the previous governments have left an acute financial, flour and electricity crisis behind, but present government has the will and commitment to bring the country out of it.
She said the performance of previous government can be gauged that it had not added even a single Megawatt electricity to the national grid which is regrettable.
Sherry Rehman said strengthening of democracy was a key commitment in the political struggle of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and added the coalition government has inherited challenges but it has the potential to put the country on the path of progress and prosperity as it did in the past.
The Minister said all such laws, regulations and systems would be abolished which support or provide opportunity of exploitation of the work force.
She said while the government is taking all possible steps for the welfare of workers, it also expects from them to use all their energies for the country’s development.
She also paid homage to the struggle of the martyrs of Chicago, who refused to submit before the forces of oppression, and gallantly stood for their rights of better working and living conditions.
In his address, Senator Babar Awan said PPP government has always given priority to resolvING grievances of media workers.
He also offered his services as lawyer to APNEC and said he will fight for their rights till their achievements.
Supporting APNEC stand on implementation of Wage Board Award, Senator Liaquat Ali Bangulzai said he had asked newspapers owners to give right to their employees.
Bangulzai said he has also asked the Housing Minister to earmark special quota for newspaper workers in the newly announced housing scheme of the government under which one million housing unitS would be constructed throughout the country.
Earlier, in their addresses leaders of APNEC and Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) urged the government to ensure immediate implementation of the 7th Wage Award.
They said the 7th Wage Award has not been implemented since 2001 and also demanded constitution of the 8th Wage Board, under Newspapers Employees Condition of Service Act, 1973.
This act was the greatest gift of former premier Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto to the newspapers employees and passed unanimously by the then Parliament.
They said National Assembly, Senate and all the four provincial Assemblies unanimously passed the resolution for the immediate implementation of the 7th Wage Award, which has not been implemented since 2001.
Those who spoke on the occasion included Chairman APNEC, Shafiuddin Ashraf, PFUJ President, Huma Ali, Secretary General, APNEC Dr Imran Farooq, senior FEC member, Cr.Shamsi and Chairman Local APNEC, Ikram Bokhari.

Nawaz stands firm on judges restoration issue

ISLAMABAD : Pakistan Muslim League (N) quaid Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Thursday expressed the resolve that they would not bend before the oppressive and tyrannical elements and country would be put on the path of democracy and democratic institutions would be made functional.
Talking to Geo News by phone from Dubai he categorically stated that every effort would be done to keep the present coalition intact.
He, however said that there could not be any compromise on the restoration of judiciary over which their party had been mandated in the February 18 elections.
Mian Nawaz Sharif on a question regarding the consequences of the failure of talks responded that if such circumstances arose then the final decision would be taken by the Party’s parliamentary party and central working committee.
He said that nation should not lose hope as the process of talks was underway and every effort would be made to keep the coalition intact and fulfill the commitments made to the nation.

PM takes notice of girl’s abduction, assault

ISLAMABAD : Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has taken strong notice of the unfortunate incident in which a girl student of a medical college was abducted and subjected to assault by four persons in Rawalpindi in February. The Prime Minister asked the concerned provincial government and relevant officials to ensure that all culprits are arrested and brought to book.
He said that stern action be taken so that such incidents are not repeated any where in the country.
The Prime Minister expressed his concern after Mrs. Farzana Raja, MNA, presented a report to him here at PM House on Thursday after visiting the victim and her parents in Kotli Azad Kashmir two days earlier.
The Prime Minister after viewing a special report on a private television channel about the incident had specially sent Mrs. Farzana Raja as his envoy to visit the victim and console her.
He had asked her to find the facts and give him a report on the unfortunate incident.
Mrs. Farzana Raja informed the Prime Minister that after her visit to the house of the victim and the affected family, two culprits have been arrested while the fourth culprit is still at large.
The main culprit she mentioned was arrested earlier and is presently in police custody. She also apprised the Prime Minister about her findings after looking into all details.
Farzana Raja appreciated the Prime Minister for his concern over the brutal act and informed him that she had conveyed his sympathy to the girl as well her parents.
She further said that she assured the affected family that government would extend every possible support for their protection and ensure that justice is done.

Iran and UN nuclear watchdog to hold 3rd round of talks soon

TEHRAN, Iran - Iranian state radio says the deputy chief of the UN nuclear watchdog will visit Iran within 10 days to discuss the country's disputed nuclear program. It would be the third visit to Iran by Olli Heinonen, deputy director general for the IAEA.
He has traveled to the capital Tehran twice in the past two weeks.
Thursday's report quotes Iran's envoy to the IAEA, Ali Asghar Solanieh, as saying the visit and talks would take place within 10 days. It did not give further details.
Last week, the IAEA announced a milestone' agreement with Iran that aims to provide answers about allegations Tehran has tried to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a peaceful atomic program.

2 HK men jailed for beating cat to death

Hong Kong - Two Hong Kong men aged 19 and 24 were Thursday facing fines or jail terms after admitting chasing a cat and beating it to death.
Tse Wing-lai, 24, and Leung Siu-tung, 19, were among a group of 10 teenagers and young men arrested after being seen beating the cat with sticks and poles.
Residents in the city's Siu Sai Wan district called police after witnessing the killing in March and finding the black and white female cat dead in a drain afterwards.
At a court hearing in Hong Kong's Eastern Court Wednesday, Tse and Leung admitted a joint charge of cruelty to an animal. They will be sentenced on May 14.
The Hong Kong government last year toughened laws against cruelty to animals, making the offence punishable with a jail term of up to three years and a fine of up to around 25,000 US dollars.
Pet ownership has boomed in the former British colony in the past decade with more couples keeping cats and dogs as the city's birth rate declines to an all-time low.

UN may reconsider Eritrea-Ethiopia force

UNITED NATIONS - U.N. Security Council members said on Wednesday they may reconsider the future of a peacekeeping force on the Eritrean border with Ethiopia because of obstruction of the force's work by Eritrea.
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said in a report earlier this month that if the peacekeepers abandoned the 620-mile (1,000-km) border, a new war could break out, although both countries have said they do not plan to renew hostilities.
Council members voiced anger last week at moves by Eritrea to force the U.N. peacekeeping mission to leave its border.
The United Nations has almost completely withdrawn some 1,700 troops and military observers from a buffer zone along the border between the two Horn of Africa rivals after Eritrea cut fuel supplies to the mission.
Eritrea said countrywide shortages had prompted the move, but President Isaias Afwerki has stated that the continued presence of U.N. peacekeepers on the Red Sea state's border with Ethiopia, scene of a 1998-200 war, was illegal.
The peacekeeping force, known as UNMEE, had been stationed in a 15.5-mile (25-km) zone inside Eritrea.
Eritrea turned against UNMEE because of the United Nations' inability to enforce rulings by an independent commission awarding Asmara chunks of Ethiopian-held territory.
South African Ambassador Dumisani Kumalo, current Security Council president, said in a statement on behalf of the council that the continuation of Eritrea's "obstructions" had reached a level that undermined the force's mandate.
"The Security Council recalls its previous condemnation of Eritrea's lack of cooperation," Kumalo said.
He said the council stood ready to assist the parties reach an agreement but the responsibility to do so lay with the two Horn of Africa countries themselves.
"The Security Council will, in the light of consultations
with the parties, decide on the terms of a future U.N. engagement and on the future of UNMEE," he said.
Ethiopia has offered to hold talks with Eritrea but Eritrea says it must must first withdraw from its territory. Both sides have amassed troops in recent months.

Spain marks bicentenary of French war

MADRID - Spain celebrates the bicentenary Friday of the 1808-1814 Peninsular War, which ousted Napoleon's troops from the country but also sparked the loss of Madrid's empire in the Americas.
Exhibitions, reenactments, concerts and a film are planned to mark the anniversary throughout the country, but particularly in Madrid, where on May 2, 1808 thousands of citizens rose up against the French army of Napoleon Bonaparte.
Napoleon, who by then controled much of continental Europe, sent his troops into Spain in late 1807 on the pretext of supporting an invasion of Portugal.
But he quickly alienated the nation by usurping the Spanish throne for his brother Joseph in April 1808.
The spontaneous and chaotic Madrid uprising was swiftly crushed by French troops, and hundreds of citizens were shot in retaliation. But the revolution spread throughout the country.
In August of that year, Britain sent a force into the Iberian Peninsula to support its new ally Spain.
On April 10, 1814 Britain's Duke of Wellington defeated the French at Toulouse in the last battle of a conflict known in Britain as the Peninsular War, in Spain as the War of Independence and in France as the Spanish War.
The partisan struggle conducted by the Spanish allowed the British to pursue a more conventional war against the stretched forces of Napoleon. It also introduced the word "guerrilla" into the English language.
"Without Wellington, Spain would have never won against Napoleon," said historian Ronald Fraser, author of the book "Napoleon's Cursed War."
"The guerrilla war was insufficient. Wellington commanded real armies, which were required to defeat Napoleon."
The war contributed to Napoleon's abdication in 1814.
It also launched the notion of a "romantic" Spain, with partisans fighting for their freedom, a far cry from the image of the Conquistadors who ravaged South America, noted Professor Jose Alvarez Junco of Madrid's Complutense University.
But it also had unfortunate consequences for Spain, as its colonies in the Americas saw it as an opportunity to demand their independence.
Led by Simon Bolivar and Jose de San Martin, they rose up, and Spanish domination of South America was finally ended at the Battle of Ayachucho in Peru in 1824.
The war against the French also left Spain divided between the "afrancesados", who embraced the liberal ideas brought in from France, and the monarchists backed by a fundamentalist clergy.
And it led to the restoration of royal absolutism under King Ferdinand VII.
After the war came "the return of the most infamous king in Spanish history, Fernando VII, the abolition of constitutional rights, and the crushing proof that Spaniards got their enemies confused in 1808," Spanish writer Arturo Perez Reverte said in an article in the newspaper El Pais.
Reverte is the curator of a special exhibition on the Madrid uprising based on his book "A Day of Anger."
Two of Francisco de Goya's most emblematic paintings depicting the revolt-- "The Second of May, 1808: The Charge of the Mamelukes" and "The Third of May, 1808: The Execution of the Defenders of Madrid" -- have also been restored for a special exhibition at Madrid's Prado Museum.
The "Third of May" painting will also be re-created in a Madrid street spectacular that incorporates music, dance and theatre to reenact the uprising.
King Juan Carlos, Queen Sofia, other members of the royal family and Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero will also attend a ceremony on Friday in the Madrid suburb of Mostoles, where the revolt began.

Medvedev takes helm, Putin charts the course

MOSCOW - Dmitry Medvedev moves into the Kremlin next week and his mentor Vladimir Putin takes charge as prime minister as Russia plunges into three days of pomp climaxing with a Soviet-style Red Square military parade.
The three days of carefully-orchestrated events starting with Medvedev's inauguration on Wednesday will conclude a political drama played over years centering on Russia's resurgence and Putin's choice of successor.
The inaugural ceremony was due to be followed Thursday by appointment of Putin as prime minister with a spectacular World War II victory parade on Friday.
The script was written for next week's events as far back as last autumn, when Putin said he would lead the ruling United Russia party into legislative elections and unveiled a plan to become prime minister if the party won big.
From that moment on, everything unfolded like clockwork: United Russia won a landslide, the hugely-popular Putin endorsed a successor and that chosen one -- Medvedev -- said he would make Putin his first prime minister if elected.
Elected he was, by the forecast landslide, on March 2, to become Russia's third president after Boris Yeltsin and Putin and setting the stage for a new chapter in Russia -- a chapter Putin clearly intends to author.
So Wednesday, the 42-year-old Medvedev, a one-time law professor from Saint Petersburg who was catapulted by Putin virtually overnight to the heights of state power eight years ago, takes the oath of the highest office in the land.
The question, though, is how long it really will be the highest.
Ex-KGB officer Putin, who at 55 remains youthful and by far Russia's most popular leader, earlier this year described the presidency as a "symbol" and has made clear that he intends to exercise practical power as prime minister.
Medvedev, by contrast, has no political support base of his own and is, for now at least, entirely beholden to Putin and Putin's backers in many sectors of Russian society for his own political existence.
Medvedev's only discernible platform during his presidential campaign was support for his mentor's policies -- a collection of Putin speeches known collectively as the "Putin Plan" -- and he has shown no inclination to change them.
His Kremlin inauguration ceremony will be a sober affair replete with all the trappings befitting a high occasion of state, a ceremonial occasion and tightly-scripted media event staged to buttress Russia's new national pride.
But according to a scenario spelled out by the speaker of parliament last month, Medvedev's first act after being sworn in as president will be to nominate Putin as his first head of government.
"On May 7 this will be proposed to the Duma. And on May 8 we will adopt it," Duma speaker Boris Gryzlov said.
In addition to putting a lock on the prime minister's job, Putin also last month said he would become leader of the United Russia party, which now holds a constitutional majority in parliament following the December elections.
So as the Putin presidency comes to an end and the Medvedev era begins, much of the practical political power in Russia remains in the hands of the former, though the symbolic -- constitutional -- authority lies with the latter.
It is after these events scheduled to unfold on May 7 and May 8 that the spectacle of a massive military parade through Red Square, the likes of which have not been seen since Soviet times, takes place May 9.
Armoured personnel carriers, battle tanks, mobile long-range nuclear missiles and Russia's most advanced military aircraft are scheduled to be on display for the annual World War II Victory Day holiday parade.
"We must show the world that we are ready to respond to any aggression," Igor Kirilov, a Soviet-era Red Square parade television commentator, said of this year's planned display.

Centre opens to focus on non-traditional security issues

SINGAPORE- The rice shortage and climate change have prompted the establishment of a research centre aimed at non- traditional security issues in Asia, organizers said on Thursday.
The Centre for Non-Traditional Security will open Tuesday in Singapore at the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies.
"Over the last five years, many non-traditional security issues have hit the headlines in Asia," The Straits Times quoted dean Barry Desker as saying.
They include global pandemics, illegal migration and terrorist links to the illegal drug trade.
"There is increasing attention on how such issues have come to be treated as security issues" and whether policymakers are making effective and appropriate responses, Desker said.
The centre will initially focus on pandemics such as the avian flu. It will be headed by Dr Mely Caballero-Anthony, a Filipino national, who has been studying these issues since 1997.

Zimbabwe to verify election results amid turmoil

HARARE - Zimbabwe braced on Thursday for the latest twist in a political crisis that has racked the southern African state, with election officials set to verify results from a presidential election on March 29.
Representatives of the four presidential candidates were to attend a meeting with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission starting at 2:00 pm (1200 GMT) in the capital Harare to compare their vote tallies with preliminary official results.
The meeting comes a day after sources close to the electoral commission told AFP that opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai was ahead in the count, with between 47 and 50 percent of the vote but no outright majority.
More than a month after voting day, no official results from the election have yet been released. Thursday's meeting is expected to lead to the announcement of results but officials could not say when that would happen.
Tsvangirai, 56, was running against 84-year-old Robert Mugabe, a former guerrilla leader and hero of Africa's national liberation movements who has ruled Zimbabwe since independence from Britain in 1980.
Tsvangirai earlier declared himself the outright winner of the vote based on his party's calculations but Mugabe's camp says a second round will be required to elect a new president.
"We are prepared for tomorrow,... all the candidates' election agents are coming," Utloile Silaigwana, a spokesman for the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) said on Wednesday, referring to the meeting on Thursday.
The difference in election figures given by the opposition and those from sources close to the electoral commission meant the potential for discord at the meeting was high but Silaigwana said he did not expect any problems.
Asked earlier what would happen in the event of disagreements over the figures between the different parties, ZEC chief George Chiweshe simply said: "They must agree, they have to agree."
Neither the electoral commission nor representatives of the candidates wanted to speculate on when the final results could be published.
"We will only know when the verification process starts," said Justice Minister Patrick Chinamasa, a Mugabe ally.
Chris Mbanga, who will represent Tsvangirai at the meeting, said: "It may take one day, it may take two days, it may take one week, perhaps one month."
Election officials earlier confirmed a historic victory by Tsvangirai's Movement for Democratic Change in parliamentary elections also held on March 29, which defeated Mugabe's ZANU-PF for the first time in 28 years.
Critics accuse Mugabe of imposing dictatorial rule in Zimbabwe and running the country's economy into the ground with a policy of often violent land seizures from white farmers starting in 2000.
The government blames the country's economic woes, including inflation at 165,000 percent and an unemployment rate of 80 percent, on sanctions imposed by the European Union and the United States.

Arctic sea ice forecast another record low in 2008

WASHINGTON - Arctic sea ice, sometimes billed as Earth's air conditioner for its moderating effects on world climate, will probably shrink to a record low level this year, scientists predicted on Wednesday.
In releasing the forecast, climate researcher Sheldon Drobot of the University of Colorado at Boulder called the changes in Arctic sea ice "one of the more compelling and obvious signs of climate change."
If that prediction holds true, it would be the third time in the past five years that Arctic sea ice retreated to record lows, the scientists said in a statement. That retreat is caused by warming temperatures and the spread of younger, thinner, less hardy ice in the region.
Based on satellite data and temperature records, the researchers forecast a 59 percent chance the annual minimum sea ice record would be broken again in 2008.
In the past decade, Arctic sea ice declined by roughly 10 percent, with a record drop in 2007 that left a total minimum ice cover of 1.59 million square miles (4.1 million sq km). That represented a decline of 460,000 square miles (1.1 million sq km) from the previous record low in 2005 -- an area the size of Texas and California combined. Scientists measure ice cover at its low ebb at the end of summer.
"The current Arctic ice cover is thinner and younger than at any previous time in our recorded history, and this sets the stage for rapid melt and a new record low," Drobot said.
Overall, 63 percent of the Arctic ice cover is younger than average, and only 2 percent is older than average, he said.
If Arctic sea ice keeps melting, it could hurt local wildlife, including polar bears, walruses and seals, the scientists said.
For humans, however, larger areas and longer periods of open Arctic water could make for cheaper merchant shipping between Europe and North America.
Arctic sea ice helps cool the planet with its usually reliable stores of white, sun-reflecting sea ice.
Sea ice melts and refreezes seasonally, but recent years have shown a smaller area of maximum sea ice in the winter, which suggests it is more difficult to restock the supply of polar ice after a record summer melt like last year's.

Faced with tough questions about how the shocking crimes could have gone undetected for so long, chief investigator Franz Polzer told reporters there was absolutely no indication Josef Fritzl, 73, was working with anyone.
Fritzl has admitted to keeping his daughter locked in a windowless bunker, repeatedly sexually assaulting her and later imprisoning their children.
Yet despite reports he had previously been convicted of attempted rape, the authorities saw no reason to investigate him further when he applied to adopt three of those children.
The head of Amstetten social services, Hans-Heinz Lenze, said by that time, any convictions had been expunged from his record as laid down in Austrian law.
"At the time of the first adoption on May 20, 1994, there were no convictions on either his record or that of his wife," Lenze said
Police said they were probing a possible link between Fritzl and the unsolved murder of a teenager in 1986 although they admitted there was no direct connection so far.

US planned nuclear strike on China over Taiwan

WASHINGTON - The US Air Force considered a plan to drop nuclear bombs on China during a confrontation over Taiwan in 1958, but was overruled by then-president Dwight Eisenhower, declassified documents showed Wednesday.
Eisenhower instead ordered military officers to initially use conventional bombs against Chinese forces if the crisis escalated, according to previously secret US Air Force history.
The president's instructions seemingly astounded the top Air Force brass, but the author of a declassified report said US policymakers recognized that atomic strikes had "inherent disadvantages" because of the danger of radioactive fall-out in the region.
The report on the crisis by Bernard Nalty, an Air Force historian at the time, included details of an initial plan to drop 10 to 15 kiloton nuclear bombs on Chinese airfields in Amoy (now called Xiamen) in the event of a Chinese blockade against Taiwan's so-called Offshore Islands.
"This was in accordance with the drift of Air Force thinking which considered nuclear weapons as usable as "iron bombs,'" according to the report, written in June 1968 and released Wednesday by the National Security Archive.
The Archive, a non-governmental research institute located at the George Washington University in the US capital, collects and publishes declassified documents obtained through the US Freedom of Information Act.
"Of course, if there was a real war who knows what would have happened but there wasn't fortunately," archive senior analyst William Burr told AFP.
During Eisenhower's presidency there were crises on the status of the Offshore Islands in 1954 and 1958 but they did not lead to any serious military confrontation, Burr said.
Eisenhower "ordered the Air Force and Navy to prepare for conventional strikes as a show of determination," Nalty wrote, but "if the conflict escalated, nuclear strikes could have followed."
What led the White House to change the ground rules was the recognition that atomic strikes had "inherent disadvantages" -- fallout would cause civilian casualties both in China and on Taiwanese territory, Nalty wrote.
An important lesson from that crisis was that "armed forces must expect civil authority to impose tight controls on them in times of emergency," the report said.
Taiwan and China split in 1949 at the end of a civil war, but Beijing still sees the island as part of its territory awaiting reunification, by force if necessary.
The United States, obliged by law to offer Taiwan a means of self-defense if its security is threatened, is the leading arms supplier to the island despite switching diplomatic recognition from Taipei to Beijing in 1979.
CIA chief Michael Hayden said Wednesday that China's rapid military buildup was "troubling" as "it reinforces long-held concerns about Chinese intentions towards Taiwan."
"But even without that issue, we assess the buildup would continue -- albeit one that might look somewhat different," he said in a speech at Kansas State University.
A Pentagon report said this year that China had boosted total military spending in 2007 to more than twice its declared budget but Beijing dismissed it as an exaggeration, made in order to justify US sales of military hardware to Taiwan.
China-Taiwan political ties deteriorated during the past eight years under the rule of President Chen Shui-bian, who had irked Washington and Beijing with his pro-independence stance.
But Beijing-friendly Ma Ying-jeou, who took over from Chen last month, has vowed to improve relations with China, increase trade, tourism and transport links, and work on a peace treaty to end hostilities.

US foreign intelligence wiretaps rose in 2007

WASHINGTON- Wiretaps approved by a secret U.S. court overseeing foreign intelligence rose last year, even as Congress was debating a Bush administration request for more authority to fight terrorism.
The Justice Department said on Wednesday that government applications to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court for wiretap approval rose to 2,371 in 2007, from 2,176 a year earlier.
The court's approval is required to intercept a call involving an American or calls routed through the United States.
It was the fifth annual increase in wiretap approvals since the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001 spurred President George W. Bush's administration to incorporate foreign intelligence wiretaps into its strategy to fight global terrorism.
Civil liberties groups and other opponents, angered by a secret warrantless domestic wiretapping program have urged sharp restrictions and oversight of the wiretaps.
The latest figures were released as the Justice Department announced it was reorganizing its national security division, which represents the government before the secret court, to cope with the increased workload and staff.

Suicide bomber rips through Madrassa in Bara, injures 15

PESHAWAR : A suicide bomber believed to be a teenager Thursday morning detonated himself at a Madrassa of Tanzeem Amar Bil Maroof Wah Nahi Anil Munkar in Bar Kambarkhel, injuring 15 religious students in Tehsil Bara Khyber Agency.
The head of the religious seminary Haji Namdar who was prime target of the suicide bomber escaped unhurt, said an official of the Political administration of Khyber Agency.
The APP Khyber Agency Correspondent giving first hand account of the blast said the bomber was trying to get close to Maulana Namdar to present his pistol to him and in the meantime he blew himself up.
The condition of the five injured was stated to be critical. About 12 injured were shifted to Khyber Teaching Hospital while those suffered minor wounds were treated at Dogar Hospital Bara.
According to eyewitnesses the bomber believed to be around 18 tears detonated himself up after Dars e Quran. The local people said that bomber, whose body split in two pieces was not a native of the area.
The injured were identified as Imran, Haji Awal Jan, Haji Hakeem, Abdur Rehman, Akbar, Abid, Yaqub, Gul Akbar, Haider Gul, Rehmat Shah, Khial Gul. No organization has far claimed responsibility of the blast.

Govt. to make complete review of existing labour laws: PM

ISLAMABAD : Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has stated that the present government was going for a complete and comprehensive review of the country’s existing labour laws in order to bring them in conformity with the International Labour Standards.
“The objective is to ensure the provisions of basic rights to workers under the universally observed fundamental principles”, he said in his message on the international labour day.
The Prime Minister said keeping in view the ideals of Islam as our guiding principles, the present government has committed itself to bring a visible improvement in the lives of the working class.
“We are committed to the promotion of decent working conditions in the country and ensuring effective social protection to the workers.”
He said all such laws, regulations and systems would be abolished which support any opportunity of exploitation of the work force.
“Freedom of association and Collective Bargaining are the fundamental rights that were denied to certain segments of workers over the past decade; our government has restored this right to all the workers without discrimination”, he added.
The Prime Minister said while the government is taking all possible measures for the welfare and well being of workers, it also expects from them to use all their energies for the socio-economic development of the country.
At the same time, he said, it must be remembered that industrial peace and harmony is the basic ingredient of industrial progress and prosperity of the people.
“Trade unions have to redefine their role for greater discipline and higher productivity through awareness and education.”
The Prime Minister said he was confident that both the partners of production—the workers and the employers—will build upon their capabilities to make Pakistan a model of socio economic development, better living standards and respect for the internationally recognized rights of the working class.
He also paid homage to the struggle of the martyrs of Chicago, who refused to submit before the forces of oppression, and gallantly stood for their rights of better working and living conditions.
“Their struggle indeed, proved instrumental in bringing dignity to the working class. We stand committed to demonstrate our solidarity and support for such movements, which have been founded upon right and justice, as well as inspired their adherents with the willingness to sacrifice for their cause,” he added.
The Prime Minister said protection of human rights is the bedrock of Islamic teachings, and so is the dignity and respect for labour.
“Our religion greatly stresses for honesty, hard work and observance of mutual obligations that lead to harmonious relationship between the employers and the employees”, he added.

Govt to address workers’ problems; protect fundamental rights: Musharraf

ISLAMABAD : President Pervez Musharraf has said that the government is fully alive to address the problems of workers and would ensure their fundamental rights by pursuing active policies.
In his message on the international Labour Day, President Musharraf said Pakistan joins the world in observing this day, which reinvigorates the spirit to respect the fundamental rights of workers.
President Musharraf said not only the standards of modern world and charters speak for the dignity of labour, but Islam also places great emphasis on the rightful status of a worker in the society.
He mentioned Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) saying “A worker is a friend to Allah”, who also enjoined upon the employers never to overburden their employees.
The President said the May Day, besides its historical significance, provides an opportunity to focus on the issues of the working class in the country including poverty, unemployment, low wages, occupational safety, freedom of association and social protection.
President Musharraf said although the government has been successful in many areas, but there is still vast room for improvement.
“We have to go a long way to reach ideal standards. Challenges are enormous but we must not be discouraged and continue our efforts to bring relief to the people.”
President Musharraf said the country’s workforce has always kept the interest of Pakistan at priority as their contribution towards the socio-economic progress was of crucial importance.
He expressed the confidence that the workers would continue to play their role for the development and prosperity of the nation. He also urged them to acquire new and emerging skills, improve productivity, and enhance competitiveness, thus proving themselves as the best in the world.
