ISLAMABAD : Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and the Co-Chairman PPP, Asif Ali Zardari, had a meeting with the economic team on Wednesday to discuss the current economic scenario prevailing in the country. The team included Finance Minister, Syed Naveed Qamar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Finance, Ms. Hina Rabbani Khar, Governor State Bank Ms. Shamshad Akhtar and, Convener Economic Advisory Council, Shaukat Tareen.
The meeting discussed in detail the effects of the recent price hike and starting of various programmes to protect the poor from the inflationary effects of the fuel and gas prices increase.
The Prime Minister advised the economic team to follow policies that discouraged imports of luxury items and simultaneously plan pro-poor measures for any further prices increase in future.
The Prime Minister also advised the economic team to look into curbing inflation at all costs.
During the meeting it was also discussed as how the present government was forced to take very difficult decisions of passing petroleum prices increase to the people due to the previous government’s lack of action.
