KARACHI, March 23 :The Caretaker Government has ably performed its duties and paved the way for the conduct of free, fair and peaceful elections in the country. This was stated by the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Senator Nisar A. Memon.
He was talking to reporters after a visit to the mausoleum of the Father of the Nation, Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Accompanied by the Caretaker Minister for Ports and Shipping, Dr. Fahimuddin Ansari, he laid floral wreath and the Mazar and offered Fateha.
Later, they also recorded their impressions in the visitors’ book at the mausoleum.
Nisar Memon pointed out that March 23 is an important day in the history of Pakistan.
“ We are here today because when we had assumed our responsibilities as the Caretakers, we had visited the mausloeum of the Quaid and had vowed that in accordance with the constitutional responsibilities given to us, we will be conducting fair, free, impartial and transparent elections”, he added.
Information Minister said that by the grace of Almighty Allah, we fulfilled our promise to this effect under the leadership of President Pervez Musharraf.
He stated that now the responsibility rests with the newly elected government.
Nisar Memon recalled that there was a propaganda against Pakistan which we have foiled.
He said that the armed forces of Pakistan are ably meeting the challenge of terrorism.
The Minister said that the nuclear assets of Pakistan are safe due to stringent command and control system.
He stated that the elections were conducted in a free, fair, impartial and transparent manner. Observers from various countries and the media monitored the process and it was acknowledged by all the polls were free, fair and impartial.
Nisar Memon said that after notification of the results by the Election Commission of Pakistan, the Assembly session was convened.
He pointed out that the political parties also played their role with responsibility and maturity.
The Minister said that a stable political government is about to take charge.
He stated that with the swearing in of the prime minister, the role of the caretakers will come to an end.
Nisar Memon said that the commitment we had made at the mausoleum of Quaid-i-Azam in November last year, has been ably fulfilled.
He also prayed for the progress, prosperity of Pakistan and well being of its people.
The Minister said that Inshallah the democratic process would continue.
He stated that the people of Pakistan desire that their elected representatives fulfil their aspirations and take steps for their betterment as well as that of the country.
Nisar Memon pointed out that the caretaker government ensured the freedom of the press and expression.
He said that now even the Europeans as well as the Americans say that there is more freedom of the press in Pakistan.
