Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to be only CJ : Gondal

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Narcotics Control Nazar Muhammad Gondal Tuesday said that there will be only one Chief Justice and he will be Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
Talking part in a PTV programme he said that there is no difference of opinion between the PPP and PML N on the restoration of deposed judges including Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and no minus-one formula is under consideration.
There are some differences between the two major coalition partners on the modalities to restore the judges which would be settled amicably, he said.
He said that PPP has rendered huge sacrifices for the cause of democracy and
it will not allow derailment of the process on small issues.
To a question he said that top leadership of PPP and PMLN remain in contact constantly and a meeting may took place between Asif Ali Zardari and Miam Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in the next few days.
“We have learnt a lot from history and we will take the coalition successfully to the next election”, he said and added that there exists strong recognition of this fact on both sides.
He said the concept of deadlines is not part of democratic culture. The issue of judiciary may be resolved prior to the proposed long march of lawyers’ community, he added.
Gondal said that PPP has opted to take the democratic forces like PMLN on board to crete a sense of self reliance among the people by including them in policy making.
The Minister, who also holds the additional charge of Ministry of Food and Agriculture, said the present government has the mandate of the people and it will make all the decisions to provide relief to them.
It was in this direction that the present government enhanced the support price of wheat as a first act in office, he said adding that there will be no wheat shortage situation in the country.
To a question he said that in democracy the existence of difference of opinion is natural.
First time in the country’s history the mainstream political parties have accepted the mandate of each other, he said adding there is no danger to the coalition from the judiciary issue.
The leadership of both the parties have committed time and again that they will move together in the interest of the country and its people and the free media is expected to project this phenomena.
