UN considering Pakistan’s request to probe murder of Benazir: FO







ISLAMABAD : Pakistan’s request for carrying out a United Nations probe into the assassination of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto has already been submitted to the UN Secretary General and its being reviewed by the UN office of the legal affairs.
“The request was submitted by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon,” said the Foreign Office Spokesman in his weekly briefing.
He said the Foreign Minister will visit New York early next month to meet the Secretary General and representatives of the Security Council member countries for consultation.
“Pakistan’s request for the UN probe is in line with the aspirations expressed in the unanimous resolutions adopted by the National Assembly and the four provincial assemblies,” he said.
Regarding expenditures for UN probe, the Spokesman said its a legal issue and sometimes, the country requesting the probe has to pay the expenditures and sometimes, the UN bears the expenses.
