LAHORE, May 11 (APS): Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) rendered more sacrifices for the cause of independence of judiciary and supremacy of the constitution as compared to any other political party in the country. He was talking to media on his arrival at Mazar-e-Iqbal here on Sunday. Governor of Punjab Lt Gen ® Khalid Maqbool, Chief Secretary of Punjab Javed Mehmood, IG Punjab Shaukat Javaid, DG Rangers Punjab Haroon Islam, PPP leaders Jehangir Badar, Aziz ur Rehman Chan, Munir Ahmed Khan were also present on the occasion.
The Prime Minister said that PPP workers sacrificed their lives in Karachi, Rawalpindi and other parts of the country for restoration of democracy, supremacy of constitution and independence of judiciary and PPP would materialise its slogan of “ Rooti, Kapra and Makan”.
Replying to a question, he said that PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zaradir and Mian Nawaz Sharif have agreed on restoration of judges under the Charter of Democracy.
He said that the committee on restoration of judges is working on resolving the difficulties and modalities in the procedures of the restoration and expressed the hope that the issue would be resolved soon.
The Prime Minister replying to aanother question said that the steps are being taken to control unemployment, price hike and poverty.
PPP is commited to promoting new trends of political tolerance instead of doing politics of revenge, he said.
He said that the government wants to take all the political forces on-board by following its policy of national reconciliation so that the country could move on the road to progress under the democratic norms and traditions.
Replying to another query, he said that PPP would continue serving the masses under the mandate it got from the people of Pakistan.
Responding to a query, he said that people want to see change in economic condition of the country and come out of the crises faced by the country on different fronts.
PPP government wants to resolve these issues on priority basis but this would require some time, he added.
The Prime Minister offered Fateha at the Mausoleum of Allama Iqal and recorded his views in the visitors’ book.
He was presented a guard of honour by a smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Rangers on his arrival there.
