KARACHI — Awami National Party (ANP) chief Asfandyar Wali and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Deputy Convener Dr Farooq Sattar said on Saturday they were committed to the process of peace and reconciliation despite some differences.
Both leaders also reached an understanding over bringing back peace in Karachi and conducting an independent inquiry into the May 12 incident.
Addressing a joint Press conference after a meeting that lasted about an hour, Asfandyar Wali Khan and Farooq Sattar vowed to bridge differences between both parties.
ANP leaders Zahid Khan, Shahi Syed and Amin Khattak attended the meeting from the ANP side, while Waseem Aftab, Babar Ghauri and Shoaib Bukhari represented the MQM.
The leaders discussed various issues regarding country’s political situation and cooperation between the two parties.
“Both parties have agreed to form a joint committee that would look into the May 12 killings that caused loss of lives of several innocent people including workers of both parties,” Zahid Khan said.
“It is the responsibility of the parties to uncover those involved in the incident,” he added.
However, Zahid ruled out that both parties had forgiven or forgotten each other in just one meeting.
