Housing Ministry directed to provide housing for shelterless: PM

ISLAMABAD : Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Saturday directed the Ministry of Housing to work on provision of shelter for poor segments of society and submit a report to the cabinet about housing for federal government employees. At a briefing by the Ministry and Capital Development Authority at the PM House, the Prime Minister directed CDA to prepare a separate summary for the Cabinet for relaxation of ICT Zoning Regulations 1992 for housing schemes in Islamabad.

He said the relaxation will facilitate allocation of required land for the proposed scheme to Ministry of Housing and Works for government employees and public, in the first phase.
The Prime Minister said the proposed action-plan for provision of housing to the government employees should also target the deserving shelter-less people.
He also directed the concerned departments to sort out modalities for ensuring availability of low cost housing facilities.
Earlier, the Prime Minister was briefed by Secretary Housing & Works about its plans by Pakistan Housing Authority (PHA) to provide a house to every government employee on retirement.
He was apprised of the recommendations finalized by the sub-committee of the Cabinet already constituted for this purpose.
The Prime Minister was informed that the Ministry was also involved in construction of apartments for low income groups of society.
Chairman CDA informed about the availability of land in Islamabad. He solicited the approval of the Prime Minister to empower CDA Board to review Zoning Regulations 1992 to incorporate new planning and development parameters.
The Prime Minister directed preparation of a detailed summary to be placed before the Cabinet for approval in the minimum possible time.
