Nawaz Sharif to contest by-elections




ISLAMABAD : Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) Quaid and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif would contest polls for the National Assembly in the by-elections scheduled for June 24. He made the announcement himself while addressing a news conference after the meeting of the party’s Central Working Committee and Parliamentary Group here at the Punjab House on Monday.
Nawaz Sharif said the meeting decided that he should contest the polls. “Yes i will contest by-elections”.
He did not identify the constituency from where he would run, but party sources said the nomination papers of Nawaz Sharif were filed Monday for NA 52 Rawalpindi.
The sources said the PML-N Quaid had also filed candidacy papers for NA-123 Lahore.
Before the February 18 general elections, nomination papers of Nawaz Sharif were rejected by the election authorities. He had however not appealed saying he did not accept PCO judges.
