PM directs release of prisoners who cannot pay fine

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Wednesday directed the provincial governments to immediately release prisoners, who have completed their sentence but are still in jail due to non-payment of fine.
The Prime Minister said funds amounting to Rs. 7.2 million have been released to the concerned departments, therefore all necessary legal formalities be fulfilled at the earliest for release of such prisoners.
Around 190 such prisoners have been identified and have completed their sentence but are still in prison for non-payment of small amount of fine.
