PML-N to field candidate for NA-55 in Rawalpindi

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) would field its candidate in NA-55 Rawalpindi in the by-elections scheduled to be held on June 26.
This was decided in a meeting held here at the Punjab House under the chairmanship of party Quaid Nawaz Sharif.
The meeting followed the decision by Supreme Court Bar Association president Aitzaz Ahsan not to run for the seat, which was vacated by PML-N central leader Javed Hashmi.
The meeting was also attended by the party chairman Raja Zafar-ul-Haq, Secretary General Zafar Iqbal Jhagra, Secretary Information Ahsan Iqbal, central leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and others.
Before Aitzaz Ahsan withdraw from the race, the PML-N had announced it would support him due to his efforts for the cause of the restoration of the deposed judges.
PML-N spokesman Siddiqul Farooq said that Nawaz Sharif had obtained suggestions from party leaders about choice of a candidate in the constituency and an announcement would be made soon.
He said PML-N vice president Syed Zafar Ali Shah, Ejaz Khan Ejazi and Mushahid Ullah were seeking party ticket.
In the contest in NA-55 in the general elections in February, Javed Hashmi had defeated former minister and PML (Q) stalwart Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, who had always won the seat in all previous elections in the past two decades.
Hashmi had secured 76,877 votes while Sheikh Rashid got 15,774. The former railways minister is also a candidate in the forthcoming electoral contest in the constituency.
