Changes in Pakistan not under US will: Haqqani

ISLAMABAD : Ambassador designate to the United States Hussain Haqqani has denied the impression that changes in Pakistan took place under the will of the US. Speaking in a CNBC programme he said, “The impression is totally wrong that all the changes in Pakistan are taking place with the will of the US”.
Haqqani said one should understand the realty that US is a super power and Pakistan has multidimensional relationship with it. It is also a reality that the US is influential in IMF and World Bank.
To a question he said when Pakistan’s economy, defence and other fields would be fully stable then it could limit relation with the US but “currently we cannot afford it.”
To another question, he said both Mian Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari had said that Richard Boucher did not discuss issue of reinstatement of the deposed judges in London.
He said Boucher himself also said that he did not talk on the issue of restoration of judges.
To a question regarding a book written by him, he said he had stated in it that there was a fault in the Pak-US relationship as it was elite to elite. He had suggested the relationship should be developed at the level of common man of both the counties.
He expressed the hope that the current government would spend foreign aid for the welfare and development of the masses.
