Pakistan dispatches relief goods for Chinese earthquake affectees




ISLAMABAD:Pakistan on Friday sent two special PAF C-130 aircrafts carrying 23,000 kgs relief goods, containing tents, medicines, plastic mats and mineral water for the Chinese earthquake affectees.
Federal Minister for Narcotics, Food and Agriculture Nazar Mohammad Gondal, Chinese Embassador in Islamabad Luo Zhaohui, Lt Gen ® Farooq Ahmed Khan Chairman National Disaster Management Authority and senior officials of Foreign Office were also present on the occasion.
Talking to the ambassador, the Minister said the government and people of Pakistan were deeply shocked by the severe earthquake which hit Sichuan province on May 12, resulting into loss of more than 20,000 lives and massive damage to property.
He said the loss of life and property was colossal leaving daunting challenge of relief and rehabilitation for the Chinese government.
The Minister said Pakistan is grateful to the Government of China for accepting our offer of relief goods dispatched to China as a token of our feeling for the Chinese brothers.
He said Prime Minister Sayed Yousuf Raza Gilani has also offered dispatch of a medical mission if so desired by China. The Minister on behalf of the Prime Minister and people of Pakistan expressed deep sympathy with the quake affected families and prayed for success of the Chinese government in their relief and rehabilitation efforts.
