ISLAMABAD : Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Tuesday said Pakistan wants an expeditious, just and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of Kashmiri people. Talking to President Azad Jammu and Kashmir Raja Zulqarnain Khan, the Prime Minister said sustainable peace in South Asia cannot be achieved without the settlement of Kashmir dispute.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan believes in the peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue through dialogue and expressed the confidence that India would also reciprocate positively in this regard.
He said Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto always raised the issue of Kashmir at international fora.
The Prime Minister assured the AJK President that Pakistan would continue providing maximum support to Azad Kashmir for its development projects including ongoing reconstruction work in the quake-affected areas, and providing employment opportunities to the people of AJK.
President AJK Raja Zulqarnain Khan said the people and Government of AJK are grateful to Pakistan and its people for their principled political, moral and diplomatic support on the issue of Kashmir.
He informed the Prime Minister that reconstruction work was going on satisfactorily in AJK and thanked Pakistan for its generous support in rehabilitating the quake-affected people.
The President informed Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani of his government’s plans to develop and exploit the potential of hydel energy, tourism and small and medium scale enterprises in AJK to bring about a qualitative improvement in the socio-economic conditions in Azad Kashmir.
