RAWALPINDI: At least three people were drowned in different drains on Saturday as Monsoon torrential rains flooded the several low-lying areas of the twin cities, Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Two people were drowned in Nullah Lai, the main rain drain of the two cities, while another dead body was found from another drain in the city. Many areas of both the cities, including Muhalla Imam Bargah, Nadeem Colony, Raja Bazar, Sadiqabad, Faizabad and others were inundated by the rain water.The situation in Nullah Lai worsened and water level reached at dangerous sign following the rains.Residents of Gawal Mandi have been alarmed and people living in areas near the Nullah Lai have been cautioned to evacuate their homes if the water level continues to rise.According to reports, water level rose to 16 and 15 feet in Kanarian bridge and Gawal Mandi respectively. Nearby residents have been directed to shift at safe places. Rescue teams have arrived at the affected areas.Some 170mm rain has been recorded in the city so far, reported the TV.The SP traffic has appealed to the people not to bring their vehicles on roads.
