Independence of judiciary pre-requisite to establish rule of law: PM

ISLAMABAD : Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Friday reiterated that the independence of judiciary is prerequisite to establish the rule of law in the country. He was talking to Habib Ullah, Ex-President of the High Court Bar Association Multan here at the Prime Minister House this afternoon.
The supremacy of the 1973 constitution has to be upheld since it has unanimous acceptance of the people of Pakistan, the Prime Minister said and added this document clearly determines the role of every institution in order to ensure smooth functioning of all the pillars of the state.
Referring to the contribution of the lawyers community for the supremacy of the constitution and law the Prime Minister said that all the coalition partners in the government are committed to the independence of Judiciary as enunciated in the Murree Declaration.
Habib Ullah apprised the Prime Minister of the professional matters of the lawyers community.
