Govt evolves three pronged strategy to combat terrorism: PM

ISLAMABAD : Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Monday said the government has evolved a comprehensive three-pronged strategy to combat terrorism designed to respond to country’s peculiar environment. Speaking at a reception for Islamabad-based diplomats here, he said the strategy combines political, socio-economic and security tracks.
Explaining the strategy, PM Gilani said it involves ensuring development, employment, education and health facilities.
He stressed the need to remove the root causes in order to overcome the problem of terrorism and said Pakistan condemns it in all its forms and manifestations.
Pakistan, he added, retains the option of use of force where necessary.
“Terrorism is a threat that confronts the international community. No country in the world is immune from this menace. Pakistan has lost its greatest leader Mohtarma Benazir as a result of terrorism,” PM Gilani said.
He made it clear that there will be no negotiations or compromise with terrorists.
“Pakistan security forces will remain deployed to meet any threat posed by terrorists,” he added.
He said an effective mechanism will ensure implementation of the agreements reached with local tribes.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan’s territory will not be allowed to be used against anyone, adding that all counter terrorism measures within Pakistan will be taken by Pakistani security forces.
