ISLAMABAD : PPP Co- Chairman Senator Asif Ali Zardari has said that Pakistan will be a stronger and more stable democracy when the present government is able to resolve all constitutional and legal issues through democratic consensus.
According to a press release, he was talking to two separate congressional delegations that called on him here Monday. The two sides discussed important issues in bilateral relations.
Senator Asif Ali Zardari briefed the visiting US Congressmen and Senators on various steps that PPP has taken so far to strengthen the process of national reconciliation.
He said that Pakistan peoples Party gave importance to Pakistan -US relations and wanted to improve it further for the benefit of the people of Pakistan.
The first congressional delegation was led by Rep Adam Schiff member of House Permanent Committee on Intelligence, Judiciary committee and Democracy Assistance and included Rep Allyson Schwartz, who is member of Democracy Assistance Committee of the US Congress. The second delegation was led by Senator Russ Fiengold of Foreign Relation Committee and Special Committee on Intelligence and was accompanied by the US Ambassador to Pakistan Anne W. Patterson.
The visiting delegations expressed their optimism that under a democratic government in Pakistan the US Pakistan relations will strengthen further. They appreciated PPP’s strong stance and position on global terrorism.
The visitors also offered condolences on Mohtrama Shaheed Benazir Bhutto’s assassination and recognized her efforts for the restoration of democracy in Pakistan.
Senator Asif Ali Zardari was assisted in the talks by Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Ahmad Mukhtar Federal Defence Minister, Husain Haqqani, Ambassador designate to US and Lt. General Mehmood Ali Durrani , National Security Advisor.
