Restoration of judiciary linked to country’s development: Nawaz
LONDON: President of his own faction of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz Sharif has reiterated that the restoration of judiciary was linked with the development and progress of the country.
In his brief inter-action with the media soon after his arrival in the British capital on a expected week long visit, he said countries without independent judiciary have no future and they continue to wallow in bad governance, poverty, illiteracy, high unemployment, a disturbed peace of mind and general lawlessness.
He described the independent judiciary as the ‘jugular vein’ of Pakistan, saying without it, the country has little hopes of a bright future. The PML-N Chief said the coalition government was determined to undo the measures taken in the wake of November 3 imposition of emergency when the entire higher judiciary was sacked.
Sharif said both his party and PPP have constituted a committee of top legal experts to thrash out issues which will pave the way for the restoration of deposed judges of the Supreme Court by May 12 through a resolution to be passed by the national parliament.
He said the country can progress and move forward only when the higher judiciary was brought to the position which existed prior to November 3 action.
