LAHORE — The PML-N decided here yesterday to take up at a cabinet meeting a statement issued by Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar that President Pervez Musharraf is a national asset.
At a marathon meeting held under the chairmanship of Nawaz Sharif, the participants said that what the defence minister had said about the president could be his personal opinion.
A meeting between the PML-N and the PPP leaders will also be held here today to finalise matters concerning formation of the government in Punjab.
Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar, Water and Power Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and provincial PPP leader Raja Riaz will meet Shahbaz Sharif. It is said that a formula for distribution of ministries adopted at the Centre would be followed in Punjab.
This means that being the senior partner the PML-N will get as many ministries in Punjab as the PPP had got at the Centre.
It has almost been decided that Dost Mohammed Khosa will be the interim chief minister while Rana Iqbal the speaker of the Punjab Assembly.
Former deputy speaker Shaukat Mazari who has joined hands with the PML-N after winning the election will retain his position in the assembly.
