Sindh Assembly session starts for oath taking
KARACHI : Sindh Assembly’s session began at Sindh Assembly building at 12-30 p.m. instead of scheduled time of 11 a.m., under the chairmanship of Speaker Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah.
The session started with extra-ordinary rush in the visitor’s galleries. A number of visitors occupied even officials, and Speaker’s galleries where they had enetered after breaking the doors.
The visitors were also seen in the corridors of the Assembly building and the lobbies raising slogans of Jiay Bhutto.
The PPP MPAs were wearing black bands and according to Nisar Ahmed Khuhro they wore the black bands in mourning of the death of their leader Benazir Bhutto.
The session started with recitation of Holy Quran.
Sindh Assembly Speaker Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah appealed to visitors that since it is the first session of the Assembly for taking oath of newly elected members, they should take care of the House’s rules.
However, the visitors did not pay heed to his appeal and slogan raising continued whereafter PPP Leader Nisar Ahmed Khuhro had to appeal to PPP workers to show discipline.
He said we show great respect to assemblies and Benazir Bhutto laid down her life for sanctity of these institutions and it is our responsibility to preserve the same.
After the recitation of Holy Quran, the Chief Minister nominated took the seat of Leader of the House.
On the occasion Pir Mazharul Huq, leader of the Parliamentary party, referred to assassination of Benazir Bhutto a national tragedy and requested the Speaker that Rules be relaxed and first fateha be offered for the departed soul.
He appealed to all those in the galleries to maintain sanctity on the occasion and keep complete silence during fateha.
Later fateha was offered for the departed soul of Benazir Bhutto.
Even after Fateha Khwani, the raising of slogans continued from the galleries amd Speaker Muzaffar Shah had to request Syed Qaim Ali Shah to appeal to the visitors to maintain silence in the House.
In a brief speech Chief Minister nominated, Syed Qaim Ali Shah said it is a historic day and democracy has come after 12 years.
He said on one hand we are happy and on the other grieved also on the death of our great leader.
“We are here because of her and so were the visitors who are raising slogans”, he said.
He had to break his speech when Azan was heard in the House and the Speaker with the consent of House adjourned the proceedings for 15 minutes to enable MPAs to offer Zuhr prayers.
