Pakistan, China relations being translated into deeper economic ties; Musharraf
RAWALPINDI : President Pervez Musharraf Saturday said Pakistan and China enjoy a deep multifaceted relationship that was being translated into deeper trade and economic relations. Talking to Chairman China Mobile Communication Corporation Wang Jianzhou here at President’s Camp Office, the President welcomed company’s investment in Pakistan and appreciated the development projects undergoing in the country, with Chinese assistance.
President Musharraf said both Pakistan and China had complete consonance of views on international issues and said it was manifested by the close cooperation between the two countries.
The President mentioned the widening of Karakoram Highway, Neelum-Jhelum hydro project, establishment of University of Science and Technology, Thar Coal and cooperation in manufacture of defence equipment as a few examples of Sino-Pak collaboration.
The President said the people of Pakistan love China and its people and added that he looked forward to his visit to China and meetings with the Chinese leadership next week.
President Pervez Musharraf reiterated that Pakistan’s telecom sector provided exciting business opportunities and all foreign investments in this sector were highly satisfactory.
Chairman China Mobile appreciated President Musharraf’s efforts to promote investment in Pakistan and noted that the mobile phone usage was expanding in countries rural areas.
He said the China Mobile said it was also developing on the same pattern aimed at bringing prosperity to the remote and far flung areas.
He said China Mobile had already invested US 721 million dollars in acquiring and revitalizing Paktel. He said another US 800 million dollars will be invested this year to further improve and expand the network and said it reflected confidence of investors in Pakistan.
