ISLAMABAD - PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has proposed an All-Party Conference (APC) on Balochistan to redress grievance of the people of the province and set up a panel to help organise it.
In a statement here, Zardari said the APC would help build national consensus on addressing the problems of country’s biggest but poorest province despite having vast rich nature natural resources.
Provincial autonomy, mysterious kidnappings of political activists, detention of political workers, grinding poverty, increasing militarisation of the province and mega projects have been listed as top agenda items for the conference.
Zardari’s initiative comes amid reports that the army, in particular intelligence agencies, are blocking attempts at reconciliation in the province involving an end to military operation and opening up dialogue with insurgent youth.Zardari himself will head the panel that includes senior PPP leaders including President of the Balochistan chapter of the PPP Lashkari Raisani.
