Deposed CJ to get full protocol in Punjab, says minister

LAHORE — In what may annoy or embarrass its coalition partner PPP, a minister of the Punjab government belonging to the PML-N says deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry will be given full protocol when he visits various cities of the province in connection with the lawyers’ struggle for the restoration of the sacked judges.
Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Rana Sanaullah said at a news conference at the Punjab Assembly Committee Room the PML-N regarded Justice Iftikhar as the legitimate chief justice. However, senior minister Raja Riaz who represents the PPP said that there could be only one chief justice at a time.
Lawyers plan to hold convention in Faisalabad and Lahore at the start of their long march scheduled for June 10 and Justice Iftikhar would address them.
Rana Sana, lauding the lawyers’ movement, said after the Pakistan Movement it was the second biggest and important movement in Pakistan’s history. He said the sacrifices of the lawyers, civil society representatives and people would not go waste. He said that those who removed the judges would be taken to task and this would be done to ensure justice and not to take revenge.
