ISLAMABAD : President of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan said Friday that the lawyer community was not taken into confidence over the proposed constitutional package. He was talking to media after participating in the meeting of implementation committee constituted by the Pakistan Bar Council for the planned long march by lawyers.
Aitzaz Ahsan said the lawyer community will give its opinion over the package when its contents were known and “we reserve the right to accept or reject it.”
He said processions from Sindh and Balochistan would arrive in Multan on March 10 afor a long march that would start from there the next day and later reach Lahore via Sahiwal and Okara.
Deposed judges, retired judges and lawyer leaders will address District Bar Associations of Sahiwal and Okara.
From Lahore the participants of the long march would leave for the Parliament House in Islamabad by road and processions of lawyer community and civil society beside other segments of the society from NWFP and Azad Kashmir would also the caravan, The SCBA president said.
Regarding visit of deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Cahudhry to Faisalabad on May 24, Aitzaz Ahsan said that participants of that the caravan of Justice Chuadhry would leave from his residence for Faisalabad the same day. The procession will reach Faisalabad via Pindi Bhatian through motorway and Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will not address to any bar en route to Faisalabad, he said.
lawyers, political workers, students and others would receive the procession of Justice Chaudhry in Faisalabad, he said.
Vice Chairman of the Pakistan Bar Council Haji Syed Rehman said the deposed CJ would also visit Peshawar on May 31. The implementation committee constituted a number of sub-committees for organizing the long march.
Members of the committee including Ali Ahmed Kurd, Rasheed A Rizvi, Hamid Khan and Latif Khan Afridi participated in the meeting held in the library of the Pakistan Bar Council.
