Islamabad;
Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that with the support of 160 million people the coalition government would successfully meet the challenges which it has inherited from the previous government.
The Prime Minister said this while talking to a delegation of people from various walks of life belonging to different regions of the country who called on him at the PM’s House this evening.
The Prime Minister said the country is passing through a difficult phase of numerous challenges, foremost being the shortage of energy and wheat. To meet these challenges, he said, the government has taken various measures on war footing.
The Prime Minister said the government has taken various initiatives under the 100-day austerity programme which primarily focuses on better management of existing resources.
He said in addition to controlling inflation, encouraging investment and increasing the country’s power generation capacity the government has also taken steps for restoring law and order in the country which is essential for the country’s economic growth.
The Prime Minister said that in the recent elections democratic forces succeeded in winning the mandate of the majority of people because of their manifesto and the government would make all possible efforts to implement the commitments made therein.
The Prime Minister said every MNA is being provided funds worth Rs. 10 million in the current fiscal year regardless of their party affiliation for meeting the immediate development needs at the grassroots level.
The participants briefed the Prime Minister about various matters relating to their areas including unemployment, provision of education and health facilities, clean drinking water, gas, electricity, sewage, and the construction of roads.
They also congratulated him on becoming the country’s first Prime Minister to enjoy the unanimous confidence of the entire National Assembly.
