Present, future generation UAE's top priority: Lubna

DUBAI - The present and future generations of the country are the top priority of all development plans, said Minister of Foreign Trade Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi at the Leadership in Action Youth Conference which opened in Dubai yesterday.
Shaikha Lubna highlighted the importance of youth development in realising government's future goals. "We believe that our youth are the backbone of the nation and the foundation on which to develop this noble civilisation," she said, adding "on this note, I'd like to encourage all youngsters to step up and make a difference in society."
The three-day conference, being attended by youngsters in the 16-20 age group from across the UAE, is focusing on leadership qualities, public speaking and decision-making skills.
On the first day, participants got the opportunity through video conferencing to learn and interact with NASA and talented 10-year-old author Adora Stivak.
Neha Tahir, the brain behind the conference, said she wanted to organise a conference like the US-based Global Youth Leadership Conference (GYLC) in Dubai.
The idea came to her during her own participation at a GYLC which was 'inspiring' and 'motivating'.
The conference will feature inspiring sessions on topics such as creating vision, mission and action plans; inspiring and mobilising communities in grassroots action; developing skills in conflict mediation, communication, and problem-solving; and networking.
The event yesterday also simulated a democratic presidential election where students were divided into parties and each party was represented by a potential candidate who gave a speech on "Why should you vote for me?"
Participants will tour Nakheel's visionary Palm Jumeirah project.
