ISLAMABAD : The government on Thursday said it will consider banning controversial book Da Vinchi Code, which was centre of controversy among the Christians over a year ago and is available in the market in Pakistan. “We will consider this (banning the book) as in the name of freedom of expression, the feelings of followers of any religion should not be hurt,” Information Minister Sherry Rehman said in the National Assembly.
Christian member of PML (Q) Akram Masih Gill on a point of order told the house that the book, earlier banned by his government, was once again available in the market.
Similarly, he added, an English movie channel HBO on cable will screen the movie on Friday night, which should also be jammed by the government.
“The film is not based on facts and has insulted Jesus Christ,” Gill said.
The Information Minister said although her government does not believe in banning channels, but it will look into the matter.
