گوجرانوالہ(بیورورپورٹ)سنی تحریک یونٹ محلہ علی پورہ کے زیر اہتمام فکرءاعلی حضرت کانفرنس سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے صابزادہ پیر ابوالحسن محمد غوث رضوی نے کہا ہے کہ اسلام دشمن قوتوں کے تمام ناپاک عزائم خاک میں ملا دینگے ۔ ملک میں نظام مصطفوی اور اولیاءاکرام کی تعلیمات سے انقلاب برپا کیا جا سکتا ہے ۔ صوفیا کا طرز عمل اپنا کر پوری دنیا میں امن قائم کیا جا سکتا ہے ۔ اعلیحضرت کے انقلابی نصاب اور تعلیمات کی روشنی میں موجودہ حکومتی معاشی ‘سیاسی اور معاشرتی بحران سے نجات حاصل کی جا سکتی ہے ۔ اگر مسلم ممالک صرف Èپس میں ایک دوسرے سے خرید و فروخت کریں تو مسلمانوں کی معاشی حالت کو بہتر بنایا جا سکتا ہے ۔ اس موقع پر سنی تحریک کے ڈویژنل کنونیئر محمد زاہد حبیب قادری نے کہا کہ یہود و نصافی ایک سازش کے تحت عظمت رسول اکرم میں بار بار تو ہیں کرتے ہوئے صرف مسلمانوں کے جذبات سے نہیں بلکہ پوری دنیا کے اخلاق سے کھیل رہے ہیں ۔ مسلمانوں کے جذبات کی تذلیل کی بڑی وجہ ان کی Èپس میں نااتفاقی اور عدم تعاون ہے ۔ مفتی قاری محمد شعیب رضوی نے اپنے خطاب میں کہا ہے کہ اگر مسلمانوں کو ترقی یافتہ اقوام سے مقابلہ کرنا ہے تو ان کو جدید تعلیمات کا حصول ہر صورت ممکن بنانا ہو گا۔ صرف جذبات اور تقوی ہی ترقی کے حصول کیلئے کافی نہیں ہے ۔ صوفیا اکرام نے تبلیغ کیساتھ ساتھ عملی زندگی کو بھی اپنائے رکھا تھا۔ جبکہ قاری محمد غلام مرتضی نے کہا کہ اعلی حضرت نے عشق محمدی سے مسلمانوں کے دلوں میں اجالا کر دیا ہے ۔ Èج مسلمانوں کو دین کیساتھ دنیا کی تعلیمات کا حصول بھی ممکن بنانا ہو گا۔ مستحکم پاکستان ہی اسلام کی ترقی کا ضامن ہے ۔ ملک کی ترقی ہی اسلام کی ترقی ہے اس لئے ہمیں زندگی کے تمام شعبوں میں مکمل خلوص کیساتھ اپنی اپنی خدمات انجام دینا ہونگی ۔ گوجرانوالہ(بیورورپورٹ) پاکستان پیپلز پارٹی کے ممبر صوبائی اسمبلی چوہدری محمد طارق گجر نے کہا ہے کہ حکومت پسماندہ علاقوں کو دیگر علاقوں کے برابر لانے کیلئے تمام وسائل بروئے کار لا رہی ہے اور ان علاقوں میں انسانی بنیادی حقوق کی فراہمی کو یقینی بنایا جا رہا ہے ۔ گوجرانوالہ پر لگے ”ایشیاءکا گندہ ترین شہر“ کا لیب انشاءاﷲ بہت جلد ختم ہو جائے گا۔ ہم یہاں کے مسائل سے بخوبی Èگاہ ہیں ۔ بدقسمتی سے سابق حکومتوں نے یہاں کے مسائل کو حل کرنے پر توجہ کم دی جس کی وجہ سے عوام میں مایوسی پھیل گئی ہے ۔ موجودہ حکومت گوجرانوالہ کے عوام کو مایوسیوں کے سائے سے نکال کر خوشحالی اور ترقی کی راہوں پر لے Èئیگی ۔ ان خیالات کا اظہار انہوں اپنے مرکزی دفتر جناح روڈ پر حلقہ عوام سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے کیا۔ چوہدری محمد طارق گجر نے یقین دہانی کروائی کہ حلقہ کے نظر اندز کیے گئے علاقوں کیلئے خصوصی گرانٹ بھی لی جائے گی ۔ اور تمام پسماندہ علاقوں کے مسائل ترجیحی بنیادوں پر حل کیے جائینگے ۔اور حلقہ عوام کو انصاف ان کی دہلیز پر فراہم کرنے کی بھرپور کوشش کی جائیگی ۔ گوجرانوالہ(بیورورپورٹ) ساڑھے پانچ لاکھ روپے چھیننے سمیت ڈکیتی اور چوری کی مختلف وارداتوں میں مسلح ڈاکو لاکھوں روپے مالیت کے طلائی زیورات ‘نقدی ‘کا‘ گھریلو سامان اور قیمتی اشیاءلوٹ کر لے گئے ۔ تفصیلات کے مطابق عمر پلازہ گاڑیوں کے شوروم پر پرائم موٹرز جی ٹی روڈ پر دو مسلح ڈاکوئوں نے حافظ محمد نعیم کے شوروم میں داخل ہو کر اسلحہ کی نوک پر اسے یرغمال بنا کر مبلغ ساڑھے پانچ لاکھ روپے کی رقم چھین کر لے گئے ۔ سبزی منڈی پولیس نے مقدمہ درج کر لیا ہے ۔ قذافی روڈ نزد سٹینڈ رکشہ کے قریب موٹر سائیکل پر سوار تین مسلح ڈاکوئوں نے کینال پارک مریدکے کے رہائشی عمران علی اور اس کی بیوی کو کار سمیت روک کر گن پوائنٹ پر اس کی بیوی سے طلائی زیورات اتروالئے ۔ نقدی پندرہ ہزار روپے اور موبائل فون چھین کر گاڑی کی چابی نکال کر لے گئے ۔ تھانہ گرجاکھ پولیس نے مقدمہ درج کر لیا ہے ۔ ہملٹن روڈ پر موٹر سائیکل سوار دو ڈاکوئوں نے شیخ خالد اور اس کی ہمشیرہ کو موٹر سائیکل سمیت روک کر اس کی ہمشیرہ سے دس تولے وزنی طلائی زیورات چھین لئے اور شیخ خالد سے نقدی تین ہزار روپے موبائل فون ‘دو عدد اے ٹی ایم کارڈ چھین کر لے گئے ۔ تھانہ سول لائن پولیس نے مقدمہ درج کر لیا ہے ۔ محلہ امیر پارک گلی نمبر پانچ جناح روڈ کے محمد سعید خان کی ورکشاپ کے تالے توڑ کر چور سی این جی کٹیں ‘سی این جی سلنڈر ‘سی این جی سوئچ ‘ڈیجیٹل کیمرہ ‘کمپیوٹر ‘کمپیوٹر موٹریں اور دیگر سامان چوری کر کے لے گئے ۔ سول لائن پولیس نے مقدمہ درج کر لیا ہے ۔ بشیر پلازہ منیر چوک سے چور اعجاز الرحمن کی سوزوکی مہران کار نمبری اے ایم ایف 206 چوری کر کے لے گئے ۔ پولیس نے مقدمہ درج کر لیا ہے ۔ نگری احمد شاہ سے چور محمد رفیق کے ڈیرے سے دو عدد قیمتی گائے چوری کر کے لے گئے تھانہ اروپ پولیس نے مقدمہ درج کر لیا ہے ۔ گوجرانوالہ(بیورورپورٹ) پاکستان مسلم لیگ ن کے ضلعی صدر محمود بشیر ورک ایم این اے نے کہا ہے کہ موجودہ حکومت ملک میں امن و امان کی بہتر صورتحال کو قائم کرنے کیلئے تمام تر وسائل بروئے کار لا رہی ہے اور ملک انشاءاﷲ ترقی کی راہ پر گامزن ہو گا۔ ان خیالات کا اظہار انہوں نے تلونڈی کھجور والی اور چندرکے راہوالی شرقی کے شہریوں سے گفتگو کرتے ہوئے کیا۔ انہوں نے مزید کہا کہ ججوں کی بحالی Èئین اور قانون کی بالادستی قائم کرنے کیلئے اتحادی جماعتیں متحد اور مستحکم ہیں اور اعلان مری پر قائم ہیں اور قائم رہینگی ۔ انہوں نے مزید کہا کہ مخالفین کو یہ اتحاد ایک Èنکھ نہیں بھایا وہ خواہ مخواہ واویلا کر کے ڈس انفارمیشن پھیلا رہے ہیں ۔ جس کا حقیقت سے کوئی تعلق نہ ہے عوام نہ کے واویلا میں Èئی ہے اور نہ ہی Èئیگی ہم سب مل کر ملک کو ترقی کی راہ پر گامزن کرینگے اور عوام سے کیے ہوئے اک اک وعدے کو پورا کرینگے ۔ گوجرانوالہ(بیورورپورٹ) سٹی ڈسٹرکٹ کونسل کے دو بلڈنگ انسپکٹر وں نے کرپشن کی انتہا کر دی ۔ سالہا سال سے لوٹ مار میں مصروف افسران نے مزید اپنے پرائیویٹ افسران بھرتی کر لیے جو عوام سے پیسے بٹورنے میں مصروف ہیں۔ تفصیل کے مطابق سٹی ڈسٹرکٹ کونسل کے دو بلڈنگ انسپکٹروں نے قوائد و ضوابط کی پروا کیے بغیر پانچ پانچ پرائیویٹ Èدمی رکھے ہوئے ہیں ۔ جو شہریوں کو بلڈنگ کے نقشہ کی منظوری کیلئے ڈرا دھمکا کر پیسے بٹورتے ہیں اور ان بلڈنگ انسپکٹروں کو دیتے ہیں یہ سالہا سال سے مکروہ دھندہ میں مصروف ہیں ۔ لاکھوں کروڑوں بینک بیلنس کے مالک بنے ہوئے ہیں ۔ جب کوئی شہری ان کی مبینہ کرپشن کیخلاف افسران بالا کو درخواست دیتا ہے تو یہ حلفا کہتے ہیں کہ ان کا کوئی تعلق نہ ہے اور پرائیویٹ اہلکار دس پندرہ دن غائب رہتا ہے اور کام رفع دفع ہونے پر پھر کام شروع کر دیتا ہے ۔ شہری حلقوں نے اعلی سطحی تحقیقات کا مطالبہ کیا ہے ۔ گوجرانوالہ(بیورورپورٹ) مسلم لیگ (ن) یوتھ ونگ سٹی گوجرانوالہ کے جنرل سیکرٹری میاں اسد اقبال اظہر کی پریس ریلیز کے مطابق مسلم لیگ ن یوتھ ونگ کے زیر اہتمام سانحہ کراچی کے دوران جل کر جان بحق ہونیوالے وکلاءاور دیگر افراد کی غائبانہ نماز جنازہ Èج بروز سوموار مورخہ چودہ اپریل بوقت ایک بجے دن شیرانوالہ باغ میں ادا کی جائیگی ۔ غائبانہ نماز جنازہ کے بعد مسلم لیگ یوتھ ونگ کے نوجوان نواز شریف یوتھ ونگ موٹر سائیکل امن ریلی نکالی جائیگی ۔ ریلی شیرانوالہ باغ سے شروع ہو کر گوندلانوالہ اڈا پر اختتام پذیر ہو گی اور اس موقع پر قائدین ریلی سے خطاب کرینگے ۔ گوجرانوالہ(بیورورپورٹ) مسلم لیگ ن یوتھ ونگ گوجرانوالہ سٹی کے صدر عامر اکرام بٹ کی صدارت میں اجلاس منعقد ہوا۔ اجلاس میں ستی جنرل سیکرٹری میاں اسد اقبال اظہر اور دیگر عہدیداران مختار مغل ‘صفدر نذیر ورک ‘محمد کاشف ‘شفقت قریشی ‘عبدالکریم مغل ‘حافظ جائیگی ۔ محکموں میں چھپے ہوئے کرپٹ عناصر کا محاسبہ کیا جائیگا۔ رشوت خور اہلکاران اپنا بوریا بستر باندھ لیں ۔ کرپشن کا خاتمہ اتحادی حکومت کی اولین ترجیحات میں شامل ہیں ۔ ان خیالات کا اظہار پیپلز یوتھ میں معمار قوم کو اعلی اور جدید تعلیم سے روشناس کرانے میں قابل قدر خدمات سرانجام دے رہے ہیں ۔ ان خیالات کا اظہار Èزاد کشمیر کے سابق وزیر قانون حاجی جاوید اختر نے گھوڑ دوڑ روڈ پر عارف Èئیڈیل پبلک سکول کی سالانہ تقریب تقسیم انعامات سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے کیا۔ اس موقع پر سابق مشیر وزیر اعلی پنجاب میاں اظہر حسن ڈار ‘ڈاکٹر محمد اقبال مجددی ‘چوہدری اشرف مجید ‘پی پی پی کے ضلعی سیکرٹری اطلاعات محمد نعمان عزیز تعلیم و تربیت کیساتھ ساتھ دینی تعلیم دے کر اپنا قومی فریضہ سرانجام دیں ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ موجودہ سائنسی دور میں نئی نسل کو جدید تعلیم دینے کی اشد ضرورت ہے ۔ اس سلسلہ میں پرائیویٹ تعلیمی ادارے اہم کردار ادا کر رہے ہیں ۔ Èخر میں مہمان خصوصی نے بہترین پوزیشنیں حاصل کرنیوالے بچوں میں خصوصی انعامات اور تعریفی اسناد تقسیم کیں اور سکول کی انتظامیہ اور اساتذہ کی اعلی حسن کارکردگی پر ان کو خراج تحسین پیش کیا۔ گوجرانوالہ(بیورورپورٹ) محکمہ واسا کے عملہ کی غفلت اور لاپرواہی کی وجہ سے جامعتہ البنات اور سوشل سیکیورٹی ہسپتال ماڈل ٹائون کی درمیانی سڑک اور مین بازار دھلے قبرستان دیانتداراںکے قریب دو دو فٹ گندا پانی جمع شہریوں کا گذرنا محال ۔ علاقے گندے بدبو کی نظر۔ تفصیل کے مطابق شہر بھر کی طرح گوجرانوالہ پرکشش رہائشی علاقہ ماڈل ٹائون سوشل سیکیورٹی ہسپتال اور جماعتہ البنات مین روڈ اور مین بازار دھلے قبرستان دیانتداراں کے قریب گلیوں ‘نالیوں اور گٹروں کا گندا پانی کئی روز سے جمع ہونے کی وجہ سے علاقے بدبودار اور گندگی کی نظر ہو گیا ہے اور شہری بیمار ہو رہے ہیں ۔ متعدد بار اہل علاقہ نے واسا حکام کو Èگا کیا مگر کوئی کارروائی نہ ہوئی شہری حلقوں نے اعلی حکام سے کارروائی کا مطالبہ کیا ہے ۔

Discriminatory press laws to be repealed: Sherry Rehman

KARACHI : Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Sherry Rehman, Saturday said that the discriminatory laws against the media would be repealed. She was talking informally to the senior journalists at the Minister’s Camp Office here on Friday.
The Minister said that a beginning in this respect has been made with the tabling of a bill in the National Assembly for the amendment in the PEMRA Ordinance.
She pointed out that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is the mouthpiece of the government and it will not to impose any restrictions.
The Minister was of the view that the role of the Information Ministry should be that of a facilitator.
She said that she was in touch with the organizations of the journalists community as well as the APNS and the CPNE.
Sherry Rehman said that efforts would be made to evolve consensus regarding the press issues and problems.
She said the present government is committed to the freedom of the press.
With regard to the PEMRA bill, the Minister said that this a positive action and that this was our clear commitment with the press.
The Minister said that workshops and seminars would also be planned to help enhance the skills and capabilities especially of the young journalists.
She also exchanged views with the senior journalists on occasion.

دوست محمد کھوسہ نے وزیر اعلیٰ پنجاب کے عہدے کا حلف اٹھالیا

.۔وفاقی وزیر تعلیم پروفیسر چودھری احسن اقبال اور ڈائریکٹر جنرل ،وفاقی نظامت تعلیمات ایف جی جونئیرماڈل سکول جی الیون ون کی سرکش پرنسپل مسرت صادق،،وائس پر نسپل مسز عارفہ اور ٹیچر عاصمہ پروین کے دھونس آمیز رویے کا نوٹس لیں۔ مذکورہ سکول کی ایک متاثرہ ٹیچرکے خاوند نے وفاقی وزیر تعلیم اور ڈی جی ایجوکیشن برگیڈیر جاوید اقبال احمدسے استدعا کی ہے۔کہ راقم ا لحروف کی بیوی بی پی ایس 14 فکس پے پر مذکورہ بالاسکول میں فرائض انجام دے رہی ہے۔ مذکورہ با لا سٹاف ایک عرصہ دراز سے ملی بھگت اور اپنے اختیارات کا غلط استعمال کر کے میری بیوی کو تنگ کر رہا ہے۔ اور مذکورہ سٹاف ایک سازش کے تحت آئے روز مختلف والدین کی طرف سے شکا یات بھی لکھوا کر ڈائریکٹوریٹ۔ بھیجتا رہتا ہے۔ مذکورہ با لا سٹاف میں ایک ٹیچر مسز عاصمہ جو کہ میری بیوی کو دھمکیاں دیتے وقت کہتی ہے کہ میرا خاوند ڈی جی کا ڈرائیور ہے۔ اور میں تبادلہ تو دور کی بات ملازمت سے بھی فارغ کرواسکتی ہوں۔اسی طرح سکول کی پر نسپل اور وائس پرنسل نے اپنے اختیارات کا غلط استعمال کر کے میری بیوی کا ہائرنگ کنٹریکٹ درخواست کو فارورڈ کرنے میں ایک سال لگا دیا۔ جس کا ہمیں مالک مکان کے سا منے بہت دقت کا سا منا کر نا پڑا۔ مذکورہ سٹاف آئے روز من گھڑت شکایت بنا کر ڈائریکٹوریٹ بھیجتا ریتا ہے اور اس ضمن میں میری بیوی ڈائریکٹوریٹ آف ایجوکیشن میں اسسٹنٹ ڈائریکٹر آف سکولز آصف کے آفس میں انکوائری بھگت چکی ہے۔ جبکہ چند روز پہلے مذکورہ سٹاف نے ایک بار پھر ایک سازش کے تحت ایک اور شکایت بنا کر ارسال کی ہے اور ڈی جی کے حکم پر ایک بار پھر انکوائری ہوری ہے۔متاثرہ ٹیچر کے خاوند نے ڈی جی ایجوکیشن اور وفاقی وزیر تعلیم چودھری احسن اقبال سے مزید استدعا کی ہے۔کہ مذکورہ با لا سرکش سٹاف کے خلاف اختیارات و فرائض کا غلط استعمال کرنے پر کاروائی کریں تاکہ اس دھونس آمیز رویے کا سدباب ہوسکے۔

ججوں کی بحالی کے مسئلے پر کوئی عذر قبول ہے نہ ہی بحالی کیلئے کسی پارلیمانی کمیٹی کی ضرورت ہے ۔ قاضی حسین احمد

رائے ونڈ ۔ پاکستان مسلم لیگ (ن) کے قائد میاں نواز شریف اور جماعت اسلامی پاکستان کے امیر قاضی حسین احمد نے اس بات پر اتفاق کیا ہے کہ ججوں کی بحالی کے مسئلے پر کوئی عذر قبول نہیں کیا جائے گااور نہ ہی ان کی بحالی کے لیے کوئی پارلیمانی کمیٹی بنانے کی ضرورت ہے ۔ اس امر کا اظہار ہفتہ کے روز جاتی امراء رائے ونڈ میں میاں نواز شریف سے ملاقات کے بعد قاضی حسین احمد نے صحافیوں سے گفتگو کرتے ہوئے کیا ۔ ملاقات تقریبا ساڑھے تین گھنٹے تک جاری رہی ۔ ملاقات میں قاضی حسین احمد کی معاونت سے لیاقت بلوچ ‘ امیر العظیم ‘ حافظ ادریس ‘ میاں مقصود احمد ‘ فرید احمد پراچہ ‘ عبدالغفار وغیرہ نے کی جبکہ میاں نواز شریف کی معاونت راجہ ظفر الحق ‘ سرانجام خان ‘ ذوالفقارعلی خان کھوسہ نے کی ۔ قاضی حسین احمد نے کہا کہ کچھ روز قبل میاں نواز شریف نے ا پنے بھر پور وفد کے ہمراہ ان سے ملاقات کی تھی ۔ جس کے جواب میں آج وہ ان کی رہائش گاہ پر آئے ہیں ۔ قاضی حسین احمد نے کہا کہ اس وقت ملک کو درپیش سب سے بڑا مسئلہ ججوں کی بحالی ہے ۔ پاکستان مسلم لیگ(ن) اور پیپلزپارٹی نے قوم سے وعدہ کیا جس کے لیے باقاعدہ معاہدہ بھی کیا گیا کہ جس دن وفاقی حکومت وجود میں آئے گی ا س کے ا یک ماہ کے اندر ججوں کو بحال کردیا جائے گا۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ میاں نواز شریف اور میں دونوں اس مسئلے پر سنجیدہ ہیں۔ اور ملاقات میں اتفاق کیا گیا کہ اس معاہدہ کی کسی صورت خلاف ورزی نہیں ہونی چاہیئے ۔ ایک سوال کے جواب میں انہوں نے کہا کہ ججوں کی بحالی کے لیے کسی پارلیمانی کمیٹی کی ضرورت نہیں ہے ۔ بلکہ انہیں صرف ایک ایگزیکٹو آرڈر کے ذریعے بحال کیا جاسکتا ہے ۔ ایم کیو ایم کے متعلق ایک سوا ل کے جواب میں انہوں نے کہا کہ بارہ مئی اور 9 اپریل کو کراچی میں قتل عام کیا گیا اسے کسی صورت نظر انداز نہیںکیا جا سکتا ہے ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ ایم کیو ایم ایک فاشسٹ جماعت ہے جن کی مجرمانہ سرگرمیوں کو کسی طور نظر انداز نہیںکیا جا سکتا ۔ اگر بارہ مئی کے واقعات کی تحقیقات کروالی جاتی تو شاید 9 اپریل کا سانحہ رونما نہ ہوتا ۔

نو مارچ کو بھی عدلیہ کی آزادی اور قانون کی بالادستی کیلئے اسٹینڈ لیا تھا، اب بھی جدوجہد آئین کی بالادستی کیلئے ہے
اسلام آباد ۔ معزول جسٹس افتخار محمد چوہدری نے کہا ہے کہ وہ کسی صورت بھی مستعفی نہیں ہوں گے ۔ان خیالات کا اظہار انہوں نے صدر ہائی کورٹ بار سردار عصمت اللہ سے بات چیت کرتے ہوئے کیا جنھوں نے ہفتہ کو ان سے ملاقات کی ۔ جسٹس افتخار محمد چوہدری کا کہنا تھا کہ انہوں نے نو مارچ کو بھی عدلیہ کی آزادی اور قانون کی بالادستی کیلئے اسٹینڈ لیا تھا اور اب بھی ان کی جدوجہد آئین کی بالادستی کیلئے ہے ۔معزول جسٹس افتخار محمد چوہدری نے کہا کہ وہ بحال ہونے کے بعد کسی صورت استعفی نہیں دیں گے ۔واضح رہے کہ گذشتہ چند دنوں سے ذرائع ابلاغ میں یہ افواہیں گردش کررہی ہیں کہ جسٹس افتخار محمد چوہدری بحالی کے بعد استعفی دے دیں گے ۔جس کے بعد معزول جسٹس افتخار محمد چوہدری نے صدر ہائی کورٹ بار سردار عصمت اللہ سے ملاقات میں یہ تردید کی ہے کہ وہ مستعفی ہوجائیں گے

سردار دوست محمد کھوسہ ٢٦٣ ووٹ لے کر وزیراعلی پنجاب منتخب

لاہور۔ پاکستان مسلم لیگ (ن) کے سردار دوست محمد کھوسہ دو تہائی اکثریت سے پنجاب اسمبلی میں 263ووٹ لے کرقائد ایوان منتخب ہوگئے۔ انہیں حکومتی اتحادی جماعتوں پیپلز پارٹی، جمعیت علماء اسلام (ف) اور مسلم لیگ (فنکشنل)کی حمایت حاصل تھی۔ وہ پنجاب اسمبلی کے 18ویں قائد ایوان ہوں گے۔ واضح رہے کہ پاکستان مسلم لیگ (ق) نے سپیکر اور ڈپٹی سپیکر کے بعد وزیراعلی کے انتخاب کا بھی بائیکاٹ کیا تھا اور سردار دوست محمد کھوسہ کے مقابلہ میں کسی دوسرے امیدوار نے وزیراعلی کے انتخاب کیلئے کاغذات نامزدگی جمع نہیں کرائے تھے۔

Qazi calls on Nawaz Sharif

LAHORE : A high profile delegation of Jamat-e-Islami Pakistan (JI) headed by its Ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmad called upon PML-N Chief Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and PML-N President Mian Shahbaz Sharif here at their residence in Raiwind on Saturday. Newly elected Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Dost Muhammad Khosa his father PML-N leader Sardar Zulfiqar Ahmad Khosa,Raja Zafarul Haq and Sir Anjam Khan while JI leaders Chaudhary Rehmat Elahi,Chaudhary Aslam Saleemi,Hafiz Idrees,Asadullah Bhutto,Liaqat Baloch,Fared Paracha,Mian Maqsood and Hafiz Salman Butt were also present during the meeting.
The leaders of both the parties during three hours long meeting agreed to resolve several current issues including judiciary through parliament.
They also discussed the current political situation of the country after the formation of governments in centre as well as provinces.
According to a statement issued by JI Headquarters Saturday, Qazi Hussain Ahmad said that JI had boycotted the elections to express solidarity with judiciary and to protest the dismissal of judges adding that his party now wanted the new parliament working in accordance with the constitution.
JI Ameer urged PML-N and PPPP to move forward for the sake of democracy as well as to get rid from the dictatorship and assured that they will support government in this regard.
Qazi said that the law and order situation in tribal areas needed more attention from the all democratic parties as some forces were making conspiracies to increase the sectarian clashes in Parachinar area.
Mian Nawaz Sharif and Qazi Hussain agreed to restore the deposed judges within 30 days of formation of Federal Cabinet adding that to counter the alleged conspiracies against democracy and judiciary.
PML-N Chief said that his party will stand firm on his stance for democracy and judiciary. He hoped that after the meeting between him and Asif Ali Zardari to be held within two or three days, their next strategy would be more clear .

Dar says he had useful meetings with senior US officials

WASHINGTON : Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has described his meetings with senior US officials at which they discussed economic relations between the two countries as useful and productive.
“We discussed how the new government views the economic situation in Pakistan and the future roadmap to correct macro-economic balances” the meeting was very useful and friendly and in the broader sense we discussed bilateral issues mainly linked with the economic side,” he said Friday evening after meeting with Under Secretary of State Reuben Jaffery.
Dar, who is leading a team of the country’s top economic managers to the annual World Bank-IMF spring gatherings, earlier had meetings with Deputy Secretary Treasury Robert Kimmit and Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Sullivan.
“These are routine meetings, since we are in the town, obviously when you meet, you discuss economic ties,” Dar added.
Jaffery, who is Under Secretary of Economic, Energy and Agriculture Affairs Jaffery echoed Dar’s views, calling their discussion as very constructive.
“We had a very constructive meeting, we discussed a broad array of
financial and market issues and the challenges the Minister and his countrymen
face and the US support for the government in helping to address those challenges
in the months to come,” the senior US official said.
Meanwhile, responding to questions from the media representatives at the
end of his hectic schedule of engagements on Friday, Dar said the new government
has already started making efforts to damage control the economic situation with
reference to inflation it has inherited. He was confident of achieving
improvement in the current fiscal year as the numbers have been shared with the media and the public.
“If we do not take the corrective actions, it would be unbearable, the fiscal deficit of 9 and 9.5 per cent roughly, so we will have to bring it down to below 7 per cent.”
In answer to another question the finance minister said the new
government has shared with the public the situation of the economy it has
inherited. “There is no blame game, I gave numbers of what I have inherited on
the budget overrun, they are substantiated—in fact, we are going to just place
it in both the Houses of the Parliament - they will be referred to the Finance Committees, which will provide an equal opportunity to the previous regime team to come and defend.”
He said the previous government “should have allowed to make necessary fiscal and monetary adjustments where those were necessary” in the light of circumstances prevailing both domestically and globally. “But due to political expediency in the election year, they did not do it.”

‘Govt top priority to overcome price hike, lawlessness’: Khosa

LAHORE : The top priority of the coalition government of Pakistan Muslim League (N) and Peoples Party Pakistan (PPP) is to overcome price hike and lawlessness in the province. Newly elected Punjab Chief Minister Dost Muhammad Khosa and PPP parliamentary leader in PA Raja Riaz Ahmad said while addressing a joint press conference after the oath taking ceremony of the chief minister at Governor’s House here on Saturday.

To a question about the reinstatement of deposed judges,Khosa said the federal government would resolve the issue.
Raja Riaz paying rich tribute to Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto said that she sacrificed her life for the promotion of democracy in the country.
He said PPP will continue the mission of Mohtarama Benazir Bhutto.
Both the leaders also pledged to continue their struggle against dictatorship, promotion of democracy and provision of relief to common people.

Information Minister visits JPMC, underlines govt commitment to improving health infrastructure

KARACHI : The PPP government has always paid utmost attention to the social sector, health and education, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ms. Sherry Rehman said Saturday. She was talking to reporters during a visit to the Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) here.
The Minister, who is also holding the additional portfolio of Health, said that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto personally paid attention towards the social sector.
She assured that the government would do whatever possible for the health sector in the country as well as for the JPMC, which she said was the JPMC was the biggest federal hospital in the country providing public service.
The Minister said she had come to JMPC, the nerve centre of public health services in the provincial metropolis, to examine the hospital’s problems and issues.
She said that the public health service would be improved and facilities at the JPMC would also be augmented.
Ms. Sherry Rehman pointed out that the public health sector had remained neglected and the present government would help improve the health infrastructure and services.
She said that the basic health care is a national fundamental right and that “we firmly believe in it.”
The Minister praised the administration and the staff of the JPMC for the services they were providing to the public.
The Executive Director of JPMC, Prof. Rashid Jooma, briefed the Minister. The Deputy Executive Director of JPMC, Dr. Seemie Jamali, was also present on the occasion.

President Musharraf for international, regional cooperation to protect environment

BOAO (China) : President Pervez Musharraf called on Saturday for strengthening concerted international and regional cooperation, protect the environment, strive for conservation and improvement of energy efficiency and free transfer of technology to cut environmental hazards. In a keynote address here at the Boao Forum for Asia on “Green Asia: Moving towards win-win through changes”the President said “the challenge of sustaining economic development and ensuringenvironmental protection is overwhelming and beyond the capacity of most individual countries in Asia.”
The President said environmental issues will assume increasing gravity for the world and especially for Asia as it advances in economic and technology.
“This poses inescapable challenge for the present and the future of our continent demanding responses at individual and collective levels,” the President said.
More than 1,700 influential politicians, business leaders, intellectuals and journalists from all over the world are presently in China’s southern Hainan Province to attend the annual Boao Forum.
He proposed that the Boao forum institute set up a permanent chapter on environment and development to monitor problems and recommend and review the strategy.
He stressed the need for sharing expertise and experiences, removing barriers for investments, involve both public and private sectors in the change and set up regional cooperation networks to raise environmental and energy efficiency.
The President said demand for water, energy and raw materials had grown in the world.
“Collectively, we face and enormous challenge to ensure food security, energy security, prudent water management and environmental protection.” he added.
The President pointed that the phenomenal growth in Asia has led to an rise in global demand for energy and added that 70 percent of the new demand will come from developing countries specially those in in Asia.
The President said “we will have to rely on both traditional and non-traditional sources of energy to sustain our growth. We simply cannot depend on fossil fuels to be the mainstay of global economy” .
The President, however, pointed that despite success, large proportion of Asian population of around two billion still lives on less than US two dollar a day.
He said rural poverty and rapid industrialization have led to rural migration creating mega urban sprawls and placing great pressure on land resources.
He said this combination of high population density and growth, large scale urbanization and poverty has accelerated environmental degradation with significant increase in air and water pollution and occurrence of natural disasters.
He said Pakistan was dedicated to promoting cooperation for Green Asia, both in the region and within the SAARC framework.”There is a great stake for most SAARC countries in preventing the melting of the Karakoram and Himalayan glaciers and preserving the unique but fragile environment of the adjoining regions.”
President Musharraf said Pakistan was deeply committed to helping the global efforts to mitigate climate change and it has taken several steps such as establishing a policy and review forum on climate change, launching of a mega forestry project, mountain areas conservancy programme and Pakistan Wetlands Programme.
“We need to provide gas and electricity especially to our mountain areas to prevent deforestation in addition to promoting an effective afforestation programme.”
Terming the need for ensuring water security a challenge, he said there was a dire need for ensuring provision of clean drinking water, scientific management of irrigation and availability of water for afforestation.
He said Pakistan at the same time was determined to maintain and accelerate the growth of its economy, that has been expanding at an average of seven percent in the past five years. This, he added, continues to remain the top priority of the new government.
The President said the objective of Green Asia can
be achieved only by introducing policy concepts and
systematic changes to improve the ecological
efficiency of current economic growth and by
maintaining environmental sustainability for future generations, as envisaged in the Millennium Development Goals.
President Musharraf specially thanked the Chinese companies that were working for Pakistan’s economic development through their investment and business. “I assure them that Pakistan will continue to be a land of promise,” he added.
The President also greeted the people of China and its leadership for hosting the Olympics and said it will undoubtedly be an event of great celebration and significance.
The President termed the forum an important platform for economic dialogue for Asia in the world and complimented the organizers for selecting a theme that would lead to a holistic approach towards development of the region.
He said the great transformation of Asia led by the spectacular economic progress in China and other Asian economies augurs well for the world.

Militants hiding in Pakistan might plan attack on US: Bush

WASHINGTON: US President George W. Bush has said that it seems that if United Sates of America is attacked once again like 9/11, it would be the work of militants hiding inside Pakistan.He stated this in an interview to a US TV channel. Bush said he has no intention of attacking Iran, in an interview in which he also gave some advice to his successor on how to deal with the Islamic Republic.When asked whether his intention was to not attack Iran, Bush replied: "Exactly" -- although he refused to rule out the use of force altogether."I have always said all options need to be on the table, but my first effort is to solve this issue diplomatically," he said from his Texas ranch.Bush said he was not planning an attack, adding: "I'm chuckling, because, you know, from my perch, my perspective, these rumors happen all the time ... اسلام آباد ۔ آڈیٹر جنرل آف پاکستان کی جانب سے جمعہ کو قومی اسمبلی میں مالی سال 2005-06کی پیش کردہ آڈٹ رپورٹس میں وزارت دفاع ، خارجہ اور ایرا میں اربوں روپے کی مالی بے قاعدگیوں و بے ضابطگیوں کی نشاندہی کی گئی ہے ۔ تفصیلات کے مطابق آڈیٹر جنرل آف پاکستان نے مالی سال 2005-06کیلئے مختص وفاقی بجٹ میں اربوں روپے کی مالیاتی بے ضابطگیوں اور رقم کے غلط استعمال کی نشاندہی کی ہے جس میں 25ارب روپے سے زیادہ مالی بے قاعدگیاں وزارت دفاع میں کی گئیں ۔ رپورٹ کے حوالے سے متعلقہ اداروں اور حکام سے پوچھ گچھ کیلئے اسے پبلک اکاؤنٹس کمیٹی کو بھجوایا جائے گا قومی اسمبلی میں پیش کردہ رپورٹس میں زلزلہ سے بحالی و تعمیر نو کے بارے میں ادارہ ’’ ایرا‘‘ کے فنڈز کی آڈٹ رپورٹ بھی شامل ہے جس میں بتایا گیا ہے کہ 1255 غیر مجاز اشخاص کو ہاؤسنگ کیش گرانٹ سکیم سے ساڑھے 9کروڑ روپے ادا کئے گئے۔41کروڑ روپے کی جانچ پڑتال ابھی باقی ہے ۔ آڈٹ کے مطابق ایک ہی شناختی کارڈ پر متعدد افراد کو دوبارہ رقم جاری کی گئی اور آرمی انجنیئرنگ کو5کروڑ روپے زلزلہ زدہ علاقے میں تربیت اور ورکشاپس منعقد کرنے کیلئے دئیے گئے جس میں سے پونے 4کروڑ روپے کا کوئی حساب کتاب فراہم نہیں کیاگیا رپورٹ کے مطابق زلزلہ بحالی کے ادارے نے غیر قانونی طور پر گاڑیوں کی خریداری پر سوا3کروڑ روپے سے زائد کے اخراجات کئے جبکہ اس ادارے کے چیئرمین اور دیگر افسران کے موبائل فون کی مد میں مقررہ حد سے 3 گنا زائد رقم خرچ کی گئی نجکاری کے بارے میں رپورٹ میں بتایا گیا ہے کہ کراچی الیکٹرک سپلائی کارپوریشن کو ساڑھے 15ارب روپے میں نجی شعبے کے حوالے کیاگیا لیکن اس سے کہیں زائد رقم حکومت نے اس ادارے کے خریداروں کو 108ارب روپے معاف کرنے کی صورت میں دی وزارت خارجہ کے بارے میں آڈٹ رپورٹ میں بھی کروڑوں روپے کی بے قاعدگیوں کی نشاندہی کی گئی ہے جس میں صدر اور دیگر اعلیٰ حکومتی عہدیداروں غیر ملکی دوروں پر اٹھنے والے بعض اخراجات کو قواعد کے برعکس قرار دیاگیا ہے ۔ وزارت دفاع کے بارے میں پیش کردہ آڈٹ رپورٹ میں ساڑھے 25 ارب روپے سے زائد کی مالی بے قاعدگیوں ، غیر قانونی ادائیگیوں ، وصول کردہ رقم سرکاری خزانے میں جمع نہ کرانے ، ٹیکس اور دیگر سرکاری رقوم وصول نہ کرنے کی صورت میں دو نوٹ کی گئیں ہیں رسالپور میں سوئی گیس کے بلز کی ادائیگیوں میں مقررہ حد سے 93 لاکھ روپے اضافی خرچ کرنے منگلا میں ڈیفالٹ کرنے والے ٹھیکیداروں سے ساڑھے 24 لاکھ روپے کی عدم وصولی ، ایئر فورس کے کراچی کورنگی بیس میں ساڑھے 28 لاکھ روپے غیر قانونی فرنیچر کی خریداری سمیت مختلف ٹھیکوں میں کام مکمل ہونے سے پہلے رقم کی ادائیگی سمیت متعدد بے قاعدگیوں کی نشاندہی کی گئی ہے وزارت دفاع کے بجٹ کے بارے میں آڈٹ رپورٹ میں بتایا گیا کہ راولپنڈی ملٹری ہسپتال کیلئے بغیر ٹینڈر کے ادویات خریدی گئیں اور سپلائر کو پونے 2 کروڑ روپے کا فائدہ پہنچایا گیا۔فوجی افسران کی نجی تنظیموں میں تعیناتی پر 20لاکھ روپے کے اخراجات کو بھی آڈیٹر جنرل نے خلاف ضابطہ قرار دیا ہے

ایم کیو ایم کے قائد الطاف حسین نے تنظیم کی قیادت سے دستبردار ہونے کا فیصلہ صرف ایک ہی گھنٹے میں واپس لے کر القمر آن لائن کی پیشگوئی کو سچ ثابت کر دیا ہے۔اس سے قبل ایم کیو ایم کے قائدالطاف حسین نے پارٹی قیادت سے دست بردار ہونے کا اعلان کیا۔ جنرل ورکرز اجلاس کے دوران رابطہ کمیٹی کے نام فاروق ستار کی جانب سے پڑھے گئے خط میں متحدہ کے بانی نے کہا کہ 9اپریل کو پارٹی قیادت شہر میں امن قائم کرنے میں ناکام رہی۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ اب تمام امور رابطہ کمیٹی چلائے۔لندن سے براہ راست کراچی میں اپنی تنظیم کے کارکنوں سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے انہوں نے کہا تھاکہ میں نو اپریل کے سانحے پر پارٹی کارکنوں سے ناراض ہوں کہ انہوں نے آگے بڑھ کر شہر میں ہونے والی بدامنی اور ہلاکتوں کو نہیں روکا۔ اس لیئے وہ خود کو ایسی پارٹی کی قیادت سے اب معذور سمجھتے ہیں۔اور القمر آن لائن نے سب سے پہلے یہ اطلاع دی تھی کہ الطاف حسین یہ فیصلہ واپس لے لیں گے اور اعلان کے ایک ہی گھنٹے بعد الطاف حسین نے اپنا فیصلہ واپس لینے کا اعلان کر دیاسیاسی مبصرین اور متعدد سیاسی جماعتوں کے رہنماؤں نے مبینہ طور پر اس کو سیاسی شعبدہ بازی قرار دیا ہے اور مسلم لیگ ن کے رہنما حنیف عباسی نے کہا ہے کہ الطاف حسین نے بقول انکے یہ سارا ڈرامہ میڈیا میں موجود رہنے کے لیئے کیا ہے۔اپنی تقریر میں ایم کیو ایم کے قائدالطاف حسین نے نہایت ڈرامائی اور رقت آمیز انداز میں کہا کہ بارہ مئی کے سانحے کی تحقیقات اقوام متحدہ سے کروائی جائے اور کھلی عدالت مینار پاکستان کے نیچھے لگائی جائے۔انہوں نے کہا کہ ہلاک ہونے والے ایم کیو ایم کے کارکن یا ان کے ہمدرد تھے۔الطاف حسین کی تقریر کے دوران کارکن نعرے لگا کر مطالبہ کرتے رہے کہ الطاف حسین اپنا فیصلہ واپس لیں۔اس سے قبل القمر آن لائن کے ذرائع نے لندن میں ایم کیو ایم کے صدر دفتر سے رابطہ کر کے الطاف حسین کے قیادت سے دستبردار ہونے کے اعلان کی صداقت چاہی تو ایک اعلیٰ عہدیدار نے اپنا نام ظاہر نہ کرنے شرط پر بتایا کہ قائد الطاف حسین کا استعفیٰ خود بخود نافذ العمل نہیں ہو سکتا اور اس کا فیصلہ مرکزی کمیٹی کو کرنا ہو گا اور اسکے ساتھ ساتھ کارکنوں کے جذبات کو بھی مد نظر رکھنا ہو گا۔ لندن میں مرکزی دفتر کے متعدد رہنماؤں نے توقع کے مطابق فوری طور پر الطاف حسین سے مطالبہ کیا ہے کہ وہ اپنا فیصلہ واپس لیں ورنہ تمام رابطہ کمیٹی بھی مستعفی ہو جائے گی اور لندن کے عہدیدار بھی استعفیٰ دے دیں گے۔کراچی میں جماعت کے کارکنوں فاروق ستار،بابر غوری اور دیگر نے کہا ہے کہ اگر الطاف حسین نے اپنا فیصلہ واپس نہ لیا تو وہ پارلیمان سے مستفی ہو جائیں گے۔الطاف حسین نے نہایت ڈرامائی اور رقت آمیز انداز میں کہا کہ بارہ مئی کے سانحے کی تحقیقات اقواقم متھدہ سے کروائی جائے اور کھلی عدالت مینار پاکستان کے نیچھے لگائی جائے۔انہوں نے کہا کہ ہلاک ہونے والے ایم کیو ایم کے کارکن یا ان کے ہمدرد تھے۔الطاف حسین نے زارو قطار روتے ہوئے ہلاک شدگان کے ورثا سے تعزیت کا اظہار کیا اور وکلا پر الزام لگایا کہ کراچی میں کشت و خون کی صورت حال انہوں نے پیدا کی ہےانہون نے رابطہ کمیٹی کو ہدایت کی وہ ہلاک شدگان کے ورثا کی مدد کریں۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم سب کو مل کر کراچی کو بچانا ہے۔الطاف حسین نے لندن کے مرکزی دفتر سے براہ راست ٹیلی فون پر خطاب کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ میں ملک اور اسکی سلامتی کے نام پر حکومت سے اور نواز شریف سےدوستی کا ہاتھ بڑھاتا ہوں۔انہوں نے کہا کہ ملک بھر میں جھوٹی نماز جنازہ ادا کی جا رہی ہیں اور اسکا عذاب سارے ملک پر آئے گا۔الطاف حسین کی تقریر اور پارٹی کی قیادت سے معذوری کے اعلان پر سیاسی مبصرین نے اپنے فوری تبصرے میں کہا تھا کہ یہ اقدام ایک سیاسی فیصلہ ہے لیکن اس پر عمل در آمد ہونا خارج از امکان نظر آتا ہے کیونکہ خود الطاف حسین پارٹی قیادت چھوڑنے کا خطرہ مول نہیں لے سکتے۔

American socialite Paris Hilton has revealed that she is head over heels in love with Good Charlotte guitarist Benji Madden. Her feelings for Madden were revealed on her MySpace blog on April 8, describing the good time she’s having. "I’ve never felt so happy and in love, Benji is such an amazing guy and life has never been better!" Usmagazine.com quoted her, as stating on the blog. Hilton has been for the past month accompanying Madden on his tour of South Africa and Europe with his band Good Charlotte. "It’s so much fun going to their shows every night, I now know every song by heart," she wrote. "I love Good Charlotte, they rock!" she added. News of the relationship between 27-year-old Hilton and 29-year-old Madden was first made public on February 21, when the two were seen smooching at Hollywood hot spot Villa.

In an exclusive chat with KT, Mahima talks about her new film, motherhood and lots more. Talking about her new release, Mahima says excitedly, “I play a Sikh girl Saloni, who runs an Indian sweet shop in Manhattan and sells flowers too. Saloni is a person who believes that hope and a little sugar can take care of everything. Tragedy strikes her family and her husband dies in the 9/11 attack. Later she comes close to a Muslim boy.” Mahima, who did another film with Tanuja a few years back, Film Star, which did not set the cash registers ringing, is confident about being second time lucky. “Tanuja is an extremely sensitive director and she analyses things very well while making a movie. And I think she has done an excellent job with this film,” says Mahima firmly. In the meanwhile, marriage and motherhood have kept Mahima thoroughly busy. “I got so busy with my personal life that I didn’t get a chance to do any work,” smiles Mahima as she glows with the thrill of taking care of her little daughter. And how has motherhood been, we ask her? “Oh, I think motherhood is the best role that I’m playing. With my daughter, everyday is a high point for me. It’s demanding, but at the same time it’s rewarding as well,” says the vivacious actor. Seeing the rate at which actors are taking to direction, we wonder if she has ever spared a thought towards going behind the camera? “No,” comes a quick reply as she adds, “I like to be directed, I don’t want to direct.” But what has Mahima excited these days is the fat pay cheques that even actresses in Bollywood are commanding. “It’s encouraging to see that actresses these days are getting so much money. They are an integral part of the film industry and they deserve it,” avers she, adding, “I wish this trend should have come earlier when I started my career.”

Mumbai :The much sought after Aishwarya Rai, who has been turning down movies for more than just lack of time, says she refused Karan Johar's comedy "Dostana" because the quirky situations mentioned in the script wouldn't have worked.
Karan wanted to cast her with Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham. He has now roped in Priyanka Chopra for the female lead."I opted out of 'Dostana' because the inter-personal relationships among the three of us made me uncomfortable. Now that Abhishek and I are married, the kind of quirky situations shown in 'Dostana', albeit in a comic vein, wouldn't have worked," Aishwarya told IANS in an interview.When asked why she accepted superstar Rajnikanth starrer "Robot", Aishwarya said: "I want to work with Rajni sir, yaar. He is phenomenal. Everyone speaks of this experience. I'll actually go through the experience. It's very important for me to come away with something from my films since I give so much."The film is directed by Shankar, who gave Aishwarya her first break in "Jeans"."It's a total Rajni-Shankar styled entertainer. There's no logic as to why I agreed to do it beyond the urge to work with Rajnikanth. Shankar and Rajni sir have approached me for so many films, it's embarrassing."Excerpts from an interview:Q: First things first. Did you turn down Karan Johar's "Dostana"?A: Yes, I opted out of "Dostana" because the inter-personal relationships among the three of us made me uncomfortable. Now the audience can't see me sharing my affections for Abhishek with another guy. I can't tell you why it wouldn't have worked for Abhishek and I as a pair without giving away the plot. Karan Johar wasn't bothered with all these personal considerations, but I felt otherwise. I thought the audience would wonder, "She likes John and Abhishek equally? No way!"Q: Now you'll be romancing Rajnikanth in Shankar's "Robot"?A: It's a total Rajni-Shankar styled entertainer. There's no logic as to why I agreed to do it beyond the urge to work with Rajnikanth. Shankar and Rajni sir have approached me for so many films, it's embarrassing. Ever since we did "Jeans" together Shankar has approached me for all his films except "Boys".Rajni sir, being the senior that he is, has shown no egoistic traits in approaching me for his last four-five films. And my refusal to do his films was never misconstrued by him. I admire him for that. It speaks volumes for his seniority and his calibre as a human being to never take offence to my no." Q: Is that why you said yes to "Robot"?A: This time for "Robot" it was an immediate yes from me. I just wanted to work with Rajni sir and Shankar. My "Jeans" with Shankar was a super success. I learnt so much from "Jeans" and Shankar. "Robot" too will be a learning experience.Q: Is it a sci-fi film?A: It is hard to define. But technically it will take cinema to another level. I can only say I'll come away enriched. It's very important for me to come away with something from my films since I give so much. I want to work with Rajni sir, yaar. He's phenomenal. Everyone speaks of this experience. I'll actually go through the experience.Q: Well you have a seasoned phenomenon (Amitabh Bachchan) in your own house.A: Yes, but I share a different equation with the one in my house. They're both institutions. And I'm blessed to work with both. When I look back at all the leading men, directors and technicians I've worked with I feel totally blessed. It's a good place to be in.

China supports Pakistan stability measures

BOAO, China - Chinese President Hu Jintao on Friday told his Pakistani counterpart Pervez Musharraf he supported measures taken by the South Asian government to maintain stability, Chinese state media reported.
“China respects, understands and supports all measures taken by the Pakistani government to maintain domestic peace and stability, and promote economic development,” Hu said, according to Xinhua news agency.
“China admires the achievements made by President Musharraf and the Pakistani government in the domestic and diplomatic fields in the past years,” Hu was quoted as saying.
Hu made the remark while meeting with Musharraf in Sanya, a city on the southern Chinese island of Hainan.
Musharraf is on a visit to China amid ongoing unrest at home, with a number of deaths resulting from clashes between his supporters and opponents in Karachi.
Paramilitary troops and police have been deployed to the Pakistani port city, the worst violence to hit the country since a new government hostile to Musharraf won elections in February.
Pakistan is one of China’s oldest allies in Asia, as Beijing has traditionally used the country as a counterbalance against India, the dominant power in the southern part of the continent.

Gunmen kill Pakistani intelligence official

ISLAMABAD - Gunmen riding a car shot dead an intelligence agent in a northwestern Pakistani town on Friday, the third official from the government’s security agency to be killed in little over two weeks, police said.
The official, Khaliq Khan, head of the Intelligence Bureau in Charsadda town, was killed on his way home after Friday’s prayers. Two other officials from the bureau’s anti-terrorism wing were killed in Karachi on March 27.
“The men in a red coloured car sprayed bullets on Khan as he walked along a road killing him on the spot,” a police official, Mohammad Iftikhar said.
The motive of the killing was not immediately known, which took place in a region where pro-Taliban Pakistani militants are very active.
Another official of the same agency was killed in Charsadda a few months ago and the militants had claimed responsibility for the attack.
The Intelligence Bureau is one of three Pakistani agencies and controlled by the Interior Ministry. The Military Intelligence and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) are the armed forces’ agencies.

Pak govt set to undo Musharraf media curbs

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan’s new government on Friday moved to lift harsh restrictions on the media that were imposed by President Pervez Musharraf under a state of emergency in November, a minister said.
Information minister Sherry Rehman introduced a parliamentary bill proposing an end to curbs on live broadcasts and punishments for journalists ranging from heavy fines to imprisonment and confiscation of equipment.
Rehman, formerly the spokeswoman for slain opposition leader Benazir Bhutto, is part of the new government that took office last month after trouncing Musharraf’s allies in elections.
“The amendments will remove the entire apparatus of restrictions imposed on the press,” Rehman told reporters outside the national assembly, or lower house of parliament.
Under the laws introduced by Musharraf, reporters currently face jail terms as well as a five-million-rupee (82,000-dollar) fine for any live programme or publication that “defames” him, the army or the government.
Images of terrorist activities, including the aftermaths of the rash of Islamist suicide bombings that has hit the country in the past year, were also banned.
Several private news channels were also taken off the air for several weeks under the state of emergency that Musharraf imposed on November 3 and then lifted on December 15.
Rehman, herself a former journalist, said that Musharraf’s regime had imposed “silence” on the media instead of improving its own performance, adding: “We will do no such thing.”
“We will put our own house in order and we will allow the press to broadcast not just live telecast but all that they feel fit to broadcast,” she said.
The minister added however that the media’s freedom “naturally places a heavy responsibility on the members of the press itself” and suggested forming a press council made up of members of the media.
Before the elections, journalists across Pakistan held almost daily protests against the curbs.

Independence of judiciary pre-requisite to establish rule of law: PM

ISLAMABAD : Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Friday reiterated that the independence of judiciary is prerequisite to establish the rule of law in the country. He was talking to Habib Ullah, Ex-President of the High Court Bar Association Multan here at the Prime Minister House this afternoon.
The supremacy of the 1973 constitution has to be upheld since it has unanimous acceptance of the people of Pakistan, the Prime Minister said and added this document clearly determines the role of every institution in order to ensure smooth functioning of all the pillars of the state.
Referring to the contribution of the lawyers community for the supremacy of the constitution and law the Prime Minister said that all the coalition partners in the government are committed to the independence of Judiciary as enunciated in the Murree Declaration.
Habib Ullah apprised the Prime Minister of the professional matters of the lawyers community.

Pakistan, China to bolster defence, energy and trade ties

SANYA : President Pervez Musharraf and his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao Friday vowed to enhance cooperation in defence, energy and trade, and hoped that these would be further strengthened with the coming into power of a new government in Pakistan. The two rounds of talks here at southernmost city of Sanya covered a wide range of issues including cooperation against extremism and terrorism.
President Hu Jintao reiterated that his country would always support Pakistan in whatever manner necessary in defence or its security, to assure social progress and to support economic development in Pakistan.
The two sides particularly focused on strategic Pak-China bilateral relations, agreed to introduce more projects to benefit Pakistan’s economy and assure the well being of the people of Pakistan, under the joint five-year economic plan.
President Hu Jintao described ties with Pakistan as “high priority relationship” and noted that over the years, substantial improvements had been made in Sino-Pak ties, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi told reporters after the meetings.
Foreign Minister said Pakistan pointed at the acute energy shortage due to its rapidly growing economy and sought China’s expert assistance and discussed cooperation in nuclear energy.
Pakistan already has a 300 MW Chashma power plant, built with Chinese assistance, while work is underway on Chashma-II. Pakistan is seeking future 1000 MW projects to offset its energy crisis.
Both the countries also identified several new areas, where they can extend cooperation through the already existing mechanism.
Bilateral trade between the two countries has touched US 6.8 billion dollars. Pakistan and China signed a free trade pact in 2006 and hope to raise two-way trade to $15 billion much before the stipulated time.
The Foreign Minister said there was a need for adopting “corrective mechanism” to offset the trade imbalance between Pakistan and China. He said a purchase mission from China has already visited Pakistan, while another will visit soon, to identify the Pakistani products that can find a home in China.
Qureshi said the two countries have agreed to have a five-year trade and economic development plan and the projects falling in this category will be able to get concessional credit.
The foreign minister said the Chinese President Hu Jintao has assured to urge the Chinese investors to identify projects under the Pakistan-China Joint Investment Company that has been working since 2007.
Both the sides noting their very comprehensive trade and economic partnership also agreed to push trade further and make the Free Trade Agreement more comprehensive by including trade and services.
Pakistan proposed that the two countries may improve connectivity, utilizing the existing Karakoram Highway, by adding fibre optic line, an oil and gas pipeline and a rail track linking it with Gwadar, making it the ninth wonder of the world.
Pakistan and China also expressed satisfaction over the ongoing defence cooperation, specially in terms of joint productions like the JF-17 Thunder and the F22P frigates.
The two sides described the meetings as “very good and positive”, exhibiting commonality of views on major regional and international issues, with total understanding.
“China considers Pakistan as a close neighbour, a good friend, and partner and more importantly as a good brother,” President Hu Jintao said.
Pakistan also extended its full support to China on the Beijing Olympics and regretted the attempts being made to tarnish China’s image. He assured of the peaceful holding of torch relay in Islamabad this month.
Following the round of formal talks, the two leaders also witnessed signing of two Memorandums of Understanding and an agreement.
These included an MoU between the Ministries of Water and Power of the two countries to extend cooperation in managing water resources and hydel power, another on cooperation in sports and culture and the third for cooperation in the area of engineering, sciences and technology.
Under the agreement a consortium of Chinese universities will help setup a modern international level university in Islamabad.
President Musharraf and President Hu Jintao had over half an hour long restricted meeting, accompanied by the ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defence. Later the two sides went in for delegation-level talks that reflected convergence of views on regional and global issues.
Pakistan also reiterated its support to the One-China policy.
President Musharraf in his initial remarks termed Pak-China relations as “time-tested and broad-based” and added that these have permeated down to the people’s level.
The Chinese President described President Musharraf as an old friend, who has visited China eight times in as many years and said it was a manifestation of the strategic partnership between the two countries.
President Musharraf thanked President Hu Jintao for the cordiality and warmth extended to him by the Chinese leadership.
Earlier President Musharraf, who arrived here Thursday night, was presented an impressive formal welcome ceremony at the picturesque Sanya city, in the Hainan province.
With the backdrop of Yalong Bay on the South China Sea, a smart contingent of the Peoples Liberation Army, comprising the three services presented him a salute. The President reviewed the guard of honour.
President Hu Jintao received President Musharraf and national anthems of the two countries were played.
Ministers for Defence Ch Ahmed Mukhtar, Foreign Affairs Shah Mahmood Qureshi Chairman Higher Education Commission Dr Atta ur Rehman, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Dr Muhammad Akram Sheikh and Chairman Trade Development Authority of Pakistan assisted the President during the talks.
Pakistan was the first Islamic country to recognise People’s Republic of China on January 4, 1950. Diplomatic relations were established between the two countries on May 21, 1951.

Efforts on to ensure political stability through national reconciliation: PM

ISLAMABAD : Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Friday said national reconciliation efforts would greatly facilitate in ensuring harmony among all sections of society besides promoting political stability in the country. Talking to Raja Tridev Roy, honorary minister for life at his chamber in Parliament House, Prime Minister Gilani said there was a dire need for developing understanding among various tiers of society.
Gilani said the efforts for national cohesion would greatly improve socio-economic situation in the country and would change overall perception of the people.
He said new democratic government would ensure civil liberties and focus on strengthening democratic institutions.
The Prime Minister said minorities have an equal share in every field and concerted efforts would be made to ensure their participation in every sector of national life.
Roy congratulated the Prime Minister on assuming responsibilities of his office and expressed his best wishes for the success of policies announced by him on floor of the house.
