MULTAN : Foreign minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that Pakistan remains committed to fight against terrorism and promised renewed efforts to counter threats posed by terrorists and unscrupulous elements.
Talking to newsmen after concluding ceremony of the three-day Urs of Hazrat Shah Rukn-e-Alam here on Wednesday, he said that Pakistan’s will and commitment to counter these forces remains intact.
Expressing deep grief over the Jaipur blasts in India, he offered his condolences to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones in the tragic incident and prayed that may Allah, the Almighty give courage to these families to bear this loss.
He said that Pakistan and India enjoy good relations and added that Indian Foreign minister is expected to reach Pakistan on May 21. Efforts will be made to avail the opportunity to prepare an effective strategy to counter the terrorism threat, the Foreign Minister added.
To a question, Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that both PPP and PML-N are pursuing common objectives of supremacy of constitution and restoration of judiciary. Civil society and lawyers’ struggle was also aimed at independence of judiciary and restoration of judges.
However, our party wants to solve the problem in a way that does not give any opportunity to those elements who do not have democratic inclination, Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi said adding: “We want to solve the problem as per constitution and law and in a way that should not invite another problem.”
The foreign minister said that PPP was in regular contact with the PML-N and added that governments in Punjab and at the centre will continue to function.
