MIANWALI: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Sunday categorically stated that all the deposed judges including Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will soon be restored.“I want to tell you that Insha Allah Chief Justice will also be restored, judiciary will be restored and would be made independent”, the Prime Minister said while addressing a large public gathering here at the inauguration ceremony of NUMUL College.
Minister for Education, Ahsan Iqbal, Chief of Tehrik-e-Insaf and Chairman of the Trust for college, Imran Khan and Miss Alison from the Bradford University also addressed the ceremony.
The Prime Minister said despite the split mandate in the recent elections, the democratic forces joined hands for taking the country forward on the path of progress and prosperity, to strengthen democracy and to ensure the supremacy of parliament.
He termed the coalition of PPP, PML(N), ANP, JUI and the independents as “unity in diversity” and said it was a historic day when he as Prime Minister got a unanimous vote of confidence in the parliament.
The Prime Minister said the present coalition government will come upto the expectations of masses. “We have not come in the government to rule. We have come after making sacrifices. We have lost Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.”
He said the government has already fulfilled its promise made to media by eliminating the draconian laws from the PEMRA Ordinance as well as restoring the trade and student unions throughout the country.
The Prime Minister said the government was focusing on education, “as we do not want our youth to become terrorists but want them to get education and provide an educated future leadership to country.”
He also announced a grant of Rs. 30 million for the construction of hostel facilities at the NUMUL College.
Prime Minister Gilani said his ancestors had played a key role in promoting education in the country, which was evident from the setting up of Anjuman-e-Islamia Multan back in 1884 by his forefathers.
He said under the Anjuman-e-Islamia Multan his elders established a number of educational institutions in Multan including Gilani Law College, Almadar Hussain College, Mustafa Shah Girls College, Shaukat Hussain Kinder Garden, Marry Engineering College, Agriculture College, Multan Public School and other institutions.
The Prime Minister told the audience that the ground breaking of District Headquarters Hospital, Miawali was performed by his father Makhdoom Alamdar Hussain Gilani as Minister for Health Punjab, some 55 years back, whereas he today inaugurated the cardiac care and trauma centre at the same hospital.
He assured the gathering that the present government will make every effort for the promotion of education and health facilities as well as the development of country.
The Prime Minister hailed the efforts of Imran Khan for establishing such a modern technical college near NUMUL Lake in Miawali and said he would send Tourism Minister here to look into the possibility of developing a tourist resort at this lake.
Minister for Education Ahsan Iqbal speaking on the occasion said it was unfortunate that Pakistan was on number 136 in terms of qualified human resources in the list of 177 countries.
He said, “if we have to honourably survive in the 21st century, which is a century of knowledge and education then we will have to develop our human resource by focusing on education.”
The Minister said the present government has not inherited resources from the previous government but the problems, adding, “but we will resolves these problems.”
He said the government will ensure the provision of one high school each for girls and boys at every union council, whereas every high school will get science and computer labs in the next three years.
Miss Alison from the Bradford University of UK said the university will provide the required support to NUMUL College.
Imran Khan while giving the details of the college said NUMUL College, which has been established with the support of Bradford University, will impart technical and vocational education to local youth so that they are able to get suitable jobs.
He said initially the college, which is situated 30 kilometres from Mianwali, has 24 classrooms and would have hostel facilities as well.
