PESHAWAR — Renowned social worker and philanthropist Begum Zari Sarfaraz Khan passed away yesterday at her native city of Mardan after protracted illness. She was around 90.
Her funeral prayers would be offered at Premier Sugar Mills Mardan today at 3pm. Belonging to a famous family from Mardan, Begum Zari Sarfaraz had been associated with the Pakistan Muslim League since long. She had played a vital role in uniting Muslims on one platform during the independence movement and was decorated with various national awards.
She was the elder sister of the late NWFP chief minister Mir Afzal Khan. Begum Zari Sarfaraz always focused her attention on the welfare of women and had also served as federal minister for women development.
