Pakistan keen to strengthen ties with Bahrain: PM







ISLAMABAD : Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Tuesday said Pakistan is keen to strengthen its bilateral relations with Bahrain that are rooted in common faith, culture and values.Talking to the Commander of Royal Bahrain Armed Forces, Major General Sheikh Mohammad Eisa Bin Salman Al-Khalifa at PM House, Prime Minister Gilani said the relations between the two countries are characterized by complete trust, mutual understating and unanimity of views on all issues, with an abiding interest in each other’s progress and prosperity.
The Prime Minister said the growing relations in the field of defence would also augment the existing brotherly ties between the two countries.
He said Pakistan and Bahrain are allies in ensuring regional peace and confronting terrorism, which he termed as all faiths and societies.
He said Pakistan rejects the misconception about Islam linking with terrorism, as it is a faith of peace and compassion. The need of the time is to bridge this perilous divide between Islam and the West through inter-faith harmony and inter-civilization understanding, he added.
On Middle East, the Prime Minister said Pakistan attaches great importance towards its stability and believes that peace could only be achieved through a just solution of the Palestinian issue.
He urged the international community to facilitate an early resolution of this festering conflict, and to help improve the economic conditions in Palestinian territories.
Sheikh Eisa expressed satisfaction over the defence cooperation between the two countries and said that Bahrain attaches great importance to its brotherly relations with Pakistan and would keen to further expand them.
Later, the Prime Minister hosted a lunch in the honour of Commander of Royal Bahrain Armed Forces which was attended by the federal ministers and senior officials.
